Doris Svadlenak Funeral services for Doris Svadlenak, 63, of Palacios will be held 10:30 a. m. Saturday at Bay City Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Welch officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery. Visitation hours are from 7 to 9 p. m today. Mrs. Svadlenak was born April 22, 1928, to Alfonso and May Bittick Uher and died Jan. 9, 1992, in Glen Flora. She was affiliated with the Methodist church. Survivors include her sons, Vincent Maniscalco of Goliad; a daughter, Linda Diane Rastegar of Needville; a brother, D. R. “Tom” Uher of Bay City; two sisters, Laverne Uher McWilliams of Austin and Myrna Hubbard of Van Vleck; and four grandchildren, Jarod and Darren Rastegar, Ivy Flores and Emerald Maniscalco. Services are under the direction of Dick R. Elkins of Bay City Funeral Home.

Richard B. Taylor Funeral Rites for Mr. R. B. Taylor To Be Held Tuesday Mr. Richard Bludworth Taylor, age 71 years, 8 months, __ days passed away this morning at the family residence after an illness of some years. Mr. Taylor has been a resident of Bay City for over thirty years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. R. B. Taylor, four daughters, Mrs. Austin Castleton, Mrs. James Castleton of Bay City, Texas, Mrs. T. V. Maginnis of Galveston, Texas, and Mrs. Clude Waddell of Houston, Texas; four sisters, Mrs. J. L. Burleson of Waco, Texas, Mrs. T. Prather of Richland Springs, Texas, Mrs. Lucy Watson and Mrs. Rose T. Williams of Corpus Christi, Texas; and five brothers, Messrs. J. J. Taylor of Mountain View, Cal., P. E. Taylor of Paso Robles, Cal., Dr. M. D. Taylor of Lampasas, Texas, Frank Taylor of Angleton, Texas, and Massey Taylor of San Angelo, Texas. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3:00 p. m. from Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Rev. M. A. Marshall, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in Cedarvale Cemetery. Taylor Bros. Funeral Home are in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Percy P. Terry Cygred Terry
Funeral Services Held For Percy P. Terry Funeral services for Percy P. Terry were held Sunday, February 22, at 3:00 PM, at the First Baptist Church in Bay City, Texas, with the Rev. Ferman Weedon and the Rev. M. A. Marshall officiating. Interment was in Cedarvale Cemetery. Mr. Terry, 71, died Friday morning at the Matagorda General Hospital. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Cygred Terry, of Bay City; two daughters, Berniece Terry of Bay City and Mrs. Della Carroll of Markham; three sisters, Mrs. Blake Terry Baker and Mrs. Blanche Bowers of Bay City and Mrs. Clyde Peeples of Coffeeville, Mississippi; one brother, R. E. Terry of Palacios and seven grandchildren. Pallbearers were Weldon Bowers, Ray Bowers, Verner Bowers, Adrain Bowers, Donald Spoor and Henry Allen. The Daily Tribune, February 26,1959 Courtesy of Susie Adkins P. P. Terry Funeral services were held Sunday for Percy P. Terry of 2601 Tenth, at the First Baptist Church, on which he was a member. Mr. Terry was born in Airmount, Miss., Jan. 23, 1888. He had lived Matagorda County since he was 12 years of age, and in Bay City for 18 years. He was married to Miss Cygred Spoor of Ashby in 1916. Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Berniece Terry of Bay City and Mrs. Della Carroll of Markham and seven grandchildren. Mr. Terry was an extensive land owner in Matagorda County, a cattleman and rice farmer. He was one of the builders, organizers and directors of the Independent Rice Drying Corp. of Bay City, which was begun in 1947. In May of 1941, he was elected president of the Independent Rice Warehouse, Inc. He served in this capacity for many years until he was forced to resign due to failing health. He will be remembered for his aid to the farmers of the county in various ways. He was a generous donor to community, civic and church projects. He was a pioneer in the rice industry in Matagorda County, having been one of the organizers in the Independent Rice Warehouse, Inc. He was also one of the directors. Matagorda County Tribune, February 26, 1959 Cygred Terry Services were held for Mrs. Cygred Terry, 82, of Bay City, 10 a. m. today (Monday) at Bay City Funeral Home Chapel. Officiating at the services was Dr. W. D. Baker of the First Baptist Church. Terry died April 2, 1988 at Matagorda General Hospital. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Bernice and Harry Shannon of Bay City; daughter, Della Carroll; grandchildren, Mary Sue Estes, Della Jo Lowery, Percy Carroll, Jane Bates, Johnnie Carroll, Judy Reitz and James Carroll. Terry, a lifetime resident of Matagorda County, built her life around her family. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. Burial followed services at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Dr. W. O. Testerman Died Wednesday in Austin Hospital
Dr. W. O. Testerman, 72, for many years a resident of Bay City where he was a practicing veterinarian, died Tuesday in an Austin hospital.
He is survived by: his wife, Mrs. Carrie Testerman; one daughter, Mrs. R. E. White of Houston; one son, L. G. Testerman of Houston; one sister, Mrs. Ophelia York of Houston; one brother, R. D. Testerman of Beaumont.
Funeral services, under the direction of Taylor Bros., will be held Friday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the funeral home with Rev. J. R. Bupington officiating. Burial will be in Cedarvale.

W. Fletcher Tetts M. Catherine Tetts W. F. Tetts Rites Held Last Friday Funeral services were held Friday at 3 p. m. at the First Methodist Church for W. F. Tetts with Rev. Leslie LeGrand, pastor, officiating. Mr. Tetts, prominent retired businessman of Bay City, died at Matagorda General Hospital after a prolonged illness which began when he was stricken with an acute heart ailment in Many, La. last October while attending the funeral of his sister. Mr. Tetts, age 79, was a native of Louisiana. He moved to San Augustine, Texas in 1906 and has been a resident of Bay City for 44 years where he has been a jeweler and optometrist. Active in the Methodist Church and in civic affairs, he served as president of the school board, president of the Chamber of Commerce, and was a member of the Bay City Rotary Club. He was also active for years in work on the Colorado Development. He was in the Masonic Lodge, having received from the Grand Lodge of Texas the Certificate of Appreciation for fifty years active service. He was a member of the Shrine and Order of Eastern Star. He and Mrs. Tetts celebrated their golden wedding anniversary eight years ago. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Mary Catherine Tetts, a daughter, Mrs. C. R. Woolsey of Corpus Christi; three grandchildren, Mrs. Ray Breedlove of Tyler, Mr. John F. Woolsey of McAllen and Ann Woolsey of Corpus Christi, and two great grandchildren. Pallbearers were: Messrs. Bill Ingram, Vim Rye, Bob Rice, Dale Wendt, Sam Richardson, H. J. McAllister, Pat Thompson, and Harry Norris, Jr.

John William Thames Mr. John William Thames, 92, of Bay City died August 6, in his home. He was born in Georgia in 1888. His family moved to Bastrop County, Tx, in 1891, and then to Bay City in 1927. Up until his retirement he worked ten years as a night watchman at the Bay City Box Factory and also as a farmer. He was married for sixty years to the former Willie Bishop, who died in 1971. He is survived by sons, George and Chester Thames of Bay City; sisters, Mrs. Era Elkins of Houston and Mrs. Susie Smith of Big Spring; brother, Henry Thames of Arkansas; grandchildren, Marie Chamrad of Austin, Donna Stuart of Bay City, Lloyd Thames of Bay City and Kenneth Thames of Naples Italy; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be held at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel August 8, at 9 a. m. officiated by the Rev. Marvin Moore of the First Pentecostal Church. Pallbearers are Gene Stuart, Ernest Ellis, Fred Walker, Bill Bucek, Wade Ashcraft and Kenneth Thames. Interment will follow at the Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City. Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home. The Daily Tribune, August 6, 1980 Willie C. Thames Thames, Mrs. Willie C., a resident of Bay City, passed away at age 80 in Matagorda General Hospital on March 14. She is survived by her husband, John Williams Thames, Bay City; two sons, George and Chester Thames of Bay City and one sister, Mrs. Lee Thames of Houston. Services will be held at 2:00 p. m., Tuesday, March 16 at Taylor Brothers Chapel. The Rev. Chester Sassman will officiate with interment being in Cedarvale Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gene Stuart, Forrest Dickey, Wade Ashcraft, Fred Walker, Bud Warren and Kenneth Thames. Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in charge.

Funeral Services For L. H. Thames To Be Held Tuesday 10 A. M. Funeral services for Mr. L. H. Thames, 36, who died at the Matagorda County Hospital, Sunday night at 9 o’clock, will he held from the Baptist Church, Tuesday at 10 a. m. Reverend Paul Davis will conduct the services and interment will be in Cedarvale Cemetery. The body was prepared for burial by Yoakum Funeral Home. Mr. Thames is survived by his wife, one son, age 8, and five brothers and five sisters. He had been employed at the Rice Mill. Mr. and Mrs. Thames moved to Bay City about two years ago and Mrs. Thames has been employed at the J. C. Penney Co.

Funeral Services For P. V. Watkins Held Here Monday Funeral services for Pettus V. Watkins, 46, of Bay City were held Monday at the Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Victor Connelley officiating. Mr. Watkins, a civil engineer, died Saturday in a Houston hospital. He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Bonnie, Pettus, and Betsy; two sons, Jack and Quentin all of Bay City. Five sisters, Mrs. Willie Belle Hudgins of Angleton, Mrs. Helen Bunk of Wadsworth, Mrs. Beatrice Slaughter of Jackson, Miss., and Mrs. Lillian Coleman of Taft. Mrs. Watkins was born Feb. 27, 1906 in Huntsville to Morgan McCloud McKenzie and Olive Binson Head McKenzie and died June 8, 1993 in Rosenberg. She was a lifelong resident of Bay City and the area and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Bay City. Survivors include three daughters and two sons-in-law, Bonnie and Bob Conklin of Houston, Pettus and Morris Janise of Rosenberg and a Betsy Watkins Sowell of Houston; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Jack D. Watkins of Phoenix, Ariz. and Quentin and Doris Watkins of Bay City; a sister, Jewell McKenzie Wilde of Wharton; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Watkins, in May 1956. They were married in West Columbia Jan. 2, 1932. Arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

She was a lifelong resident of Matagorda County and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Van Vleck. Survivors include her three daughters, Jane Mathis of Bay City, Melissa Clegg of Van Vleck and Julia Ham of Deer Park; two sons, Tommy Wernly of Bay City and Tim Wernly of Van Vleck; four sisters, Annie Sparks of Clemville, Edith Mallard of Van Vleck, Muriel Savage of Markham and Lorene Harvey of Spring Branch; a sister-in-law, Angelina Posey of Carthage; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
