Lola Darby Penny Funeral services for Lola Darby Penny, 92, of Houston have been set for 2 p. m. Saturday at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Leroy Stanton officiating. Interment will be at Cedarvale Cemetery. Mrs. Penny, who was born in November 1891, died May 3, 1984, at Houston Memorial North West Hospital. She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. M. S. Dowdle and Miss Iris Darby, and two nieces, Mrs. M. W. Cole and Mrs. Vim X. Rye. Mrs. Penny’s nephews will serve as pallbearers. Funeral arrangements are with Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Jack Vinson Peters Jack Vinson Peters, the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Peters of Newgulf passed away Monday and was buried in Cedarvale Cemetery Tuesday morning. The child is survived by his parents, one sister and one brother. Arrangements in charge of Taylor Brothers.

H. A. Phillips H. A. Phillips Mr. H. A. Phillips, age 93 years 9 months and 12 days, passed away at his home yesterday afternoon at 1:30 p. m. after a short illness. Mr. Phillips has been a resident of Bay City for 26 years. He was a veteran of the Civil War and a member of the Bay City Masonic Lodge. Mr. Phillips is survived by his wife, one daughter, Mrs. H. J. Wilkins of Bay City, three sons, H. R. of Omaha, Neb., L. N. Bay City, J. T. of LaFayette, La. Funeral services were held this afternoon from Walker-Matchett Funeral Home. Rev. R. E. Connell officiated and burial was in Cedarvale.

Richard J. Pinchin Funeral Services Held Here Sunday For R. J. Pinchin, 76 Funeral services were held here Sunday afternoon for Richard J. Pinchin, 76, a Bay City resident for more than 22 years. Mr. Pinchin, an employee of Southern Pacific Railroad from 1901 until his retirement in 1944, passed away Friday at the Veterans Administration Hospital at Houston. Burial, with full military honors, was in Cedarvale Cemetery. Mr. Pinchin’s fellow members of the Alfred W. Drew Camp of the Veterans of Foreign Wars at Houston had charge of the graveside military services. The Rev. Aubrey Maxted of Bay City officiated at the services and Taylor Brothers Funeral Home had charge of arrangements. A veteran of the Spanish-American War, Mr. Pinchin saw active service in Cuba with Company D of the First Texas Infantry Division. His survivors include his wife; two daughters, Miss Hattie Sue Pinchin of Bay City and Mrs. Elizabeth Schmit of Houston; one sister, Mrs. Haddie Thompson of San Antonio; one brother, R. M. Lydia Ann Pinchin Funeral services for Lydia Ann Pinchin, 88, of Bay City were scheduled for 3 p. m. Sunday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Hardaway. Burial is in Cedarvale Cemetery. The 70-year resident of Matagorda County was born Jan. 14, 1896 in Alabama and died Feb. 17, 1984 at Matagorda House. She was the daughter of Steven S. Kennemer and the former Martha Jane Kilgore, both deceased. Survivors include: step daughters, Elizabeth Schmit of Houston, Hattie Sue Pinchin of Houston; numerous nieces and nephews, including Mrs. Jim A. Smith of Bay City. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements were made with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

George John Pointer George J. Pointer George John Pointer, 55-year-old Bay Citian, died Sunday, December 20 in San Antonio, Texas, and burial is to be Tuesday in Cedarvale Cemetery following services at the Calvary Baptist Church. Mr. Pointer was operator of the Pointer Hatchery in this city and had been a resident for eight years. He is survived by his wife, Louise, and son, Robert G. Pointer. Rev. W. L. Hughes will conduct services and pall bearers are Dosey Martindale, Jean Ferrer, Sam Evans, George Pruitt, A. A. Chambless, and George Bell. Taylor Brothers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jessie Mae Baker Ponder Jessie Mae Baker Ponder, 63, passed away Thursday, August 10, 1995 in Bay City. She was born August 14, 1931 in Bay City to Jesse Lee and Artie Mae Jones Baker. She was a lifelong resident of Bay City, a member of the First Christian Church, a member of the Southwestern Bell Pioneers, and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. After retiring from the Telecommunications Division of Southwestern Bell Telephone, she went to work as an Hospital Operator for the Matagorda General Hospital of Bay City, retiring in 1994. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Deborah and Henry Schicke, of Bay City; and a granddaughter, April Schicke of Bay City. She was preceded in death by husband, Joseph Lee Ponder in 1955. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 pm Saturday, August 12, 1995 at the Taylor Bros. Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ronald Davies officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City. Pallbearers will be Norman Franzina, Scott Wakefield, Bobby Klepac, E. J. Thormaehlen, Jr., Ottmar Schimek and Frank Baker. Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, Bay City.

Joseph Preston Poole Joseph Preston Poole Poole, Joseph Preston, 66, died at the Bay Villa Nursing Home Friday. Services were held at 2:30 Saturday in the Taylor Brothers Funeral Chapel. Burial was in Cedarvale Cemetery. The Rev. David Elliott of the Van Vleck Baptist Church officiated. Poole is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Delores Collins of Germany; one son, T. P. Poole of Pasadena; three sisters, Mrs. Jesse Smith of Milano, Mrs. Florence Ida Parker of Longview and Mrs. Delma Atkins of Houston; four brothers, Claude Poole of Houston, Albert Poole of Houston, Bill Poole of Houston and Carl Dean Poole of Houston, and four granddaughters. Poole was the city dog catcher and lived in Bay City for 25 years. The pallbearers were Travis Chambliss, Glenn Smith, Gary Quinn, Kenneth Garcia and Elmer Cavender and M. S. Grassman, all members of the Bay City Police Department.

She had been a Bay City resident for 41 years. Survivors are her daughter, Mrs. Ladell Sump of Bay City; a son Ted Eugene Brown and William Edwin Brown of Austin; A sister, Mrs. L. R. Guiney of Austin and seven grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Joe Birkner Sr., P. A. McLendon, Jim Webb, Raymond Stridde, Don Wertz and James Spoonemore.

Oscar Porter The office of the Central Power and Light Company here, was closed Saturday, until after the funeral of Mr. Oscar Porter, a brother of Mr. Vance Porter, manager of the Rice Belt District. The deceased, was at the home of his mother, Mrs. R. L. Porter in Bay City, when the death summons came at 1 o’clock last Friday morning. He was brought there several weeks ago by his brother, Vance Porter, from the hospital in Rochester, Minn., in critical condition and never recovered. He was 35 years of age, and is survived by his wife, two children, six brothers, three sisters and mother. Mr. Porter was a locomotive engineer for the Pennsylvania Lines, and lived in Pontiac, Mich.
