A funeral Mass for Ann Cobb Vaughan, 69, of Bay City, were held at 2
p. m. Monday, March 6, 1995, at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Burial
followed in Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City.
A rosary was said at 7 p. m. Sunday, March 5, 1995, at Taylor Bros.
Funeral Home.
Mrs. Vaughan was born Sept. 1, 1925, in Bay City, to Frank and Anna
Cobb and died March 4, 1995, at her residence.
She was a devoted mother and a tireless and selfless person who gave
freely of her time and energy to help those in need. Her Catholic
faith and her family were the cornerstones to all that she was and
did here on earth.
She was a lifelong member of Holy Cross Catholic Church as well as
an active supporter of the Holy Cross School and served on the
School Board. She was a charter member and past president of the Bay
City Junior Service League; served on the Matagorda County Museum
Board and was a member of the Matagorda Appraisal Review Board and
had an active involvement in real estate appraising.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Eugene L. Vaughan and her
children, Lee, Sue and Frank Vaughan of Bay City, Lou Vaughan
Callaway and her husband, Dane, of Bay City, Tim Vaughan of San
Antonio, Mary Vaughan Lester and her husband, Howard, and Cathy
Vaughan of San Francisco, Calif., Anna Vaughan Spears and her
husband, Roy, of Kerrville and 12 grandchildren; two sisters,
Laverne Cobb Coale of Angleton and Kathryn Cobb Collins of Bay City.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son, Jim.
Pallbearers are Eugene L Vaughan III, Patrick G. Vaughan, Bert
Huebner, Bruce Herlin, Matt Spears, Joe Birkner, Max Rotholz and
Edgar L. “King” Coale.
Honorary pallbearers are William F. Green, O. B. Stanley, Russell
Kendall and Leonard Cornelius.

E. L. "Gene" Vaughan Sr., died
peacefully at home surrounded by his family, June 26, 2009.
Born October 29, 1921 in Houston, Texas, he was 87 years old.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Ann Cobb Vaughan,
son Jim, and brother James K. Vaughan Jr.
He is survived by: his children, Lee Vaughan and wife Carolyn, Sue
Ann Vaughan, Lou Snead-Callaway of Bay City, Timothy Kiely Vaughan,
of San Antonio, Frank Cobb Vaughan, Bay City, Mary Vaughan Lester
and husband Howard of San Francisco, Anna Vaughan Spears and husband
Roy of Kerrville, and Cathy Vaughan Coale and husband Matt of
Fredricksburg; grandchildren, Eugene Le Cand Vaughan, III (Tres) of
Garland, Patrick Grant Vaughan and wife Bronwyn, Erin V.Bass and
husband Gregg all of Rockwall, , Katy Snead Pelletier and husband
Mike, Jenny Snead Howell and husband Chris of Katy, Logan Alexandra

Howell of Katy, Hannah and Bailey Spears of San Antonio; sister, Nan
Vaughan Kennemer of Rio Vista; sister-in-law, Kathryn Cobb Collins
of Bay City.
He was actively involved in his children's activities including Bay
City Little League, Bay City High School Booster Club, Pony of
America Association, Matagorda County 4-H Club. He was a life long
member and supporter of Holy Cross Catholic Church and Holy Cross
School, Bay City Rotary Club, charter member of Bay City Country
Club, member and past President of Matagorda County Board of
Realtors, and member of the Matagorda County Fair and Rodeo
Association.
He graduated from St. Thomas High School in Houston, attended Spring
Hill College in Mobile, Alabama until he enlisted in the Army to
serve in WWII. He served in the 35th Calvary at Ft. Riley, Kansas as
a Second Lieutenant. Following his discharge from the army, he moved
to Bay City with his bride. He was actively engaged in ranching and
farming with his father in-law, F.G. Cobb. Later he entered the real
estate field becoming a real estate broker and appraiser. He
established Vaughan Real Estate and Development Company. He designed
and developed Marymount and Valhalla residential additions of Bay
City. He later became an active participant in turf farming and
founded Vaughan Turf Farm. At the time of his retirement he was the
longest practicing real estate broker in Bay City. He was a devoted
husband and father. His Catholic faith and his family were the
cornerstones to all that he was and did here on earth.
The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday June 28, 2009 at Taylor
Brothers Funeral Home.
The Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church at 11
a.m. Monday June 29, 2009. The interment will follow at Cedarvale
Cemetery, Bay City.
Pallbearers: Tres Vaughan, Patrick Vaughan, Cobb Vaughan, Seth
Vaughan, Matt Spears, Mike Pelletier, Sergio Reyes, Pat Thomas.
Honorary Pallbearers: Leonard Cornelius, Howard Lester, Burt
Huebner, Joe Birkner, Gerald Coale, Chris Coale.

Bay Citian Killed, 2 Injured in Car Plunge
Bay City—A Bay City cotton plantation manager, Earl Pierce Vaughn,
60, was killed and two other persons injured early Wednesday when an
automobile in which they were riding ran off a bridge south of here.
Ronald Batten, 65, driver of the car, and Ann Campbell, 20, a
passenger was injured.
Vaughn was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace D.
B. Hinton.
Batten, a Bay City dress shop operator, and Miss Campbell, a
waitress at Wadsworth, were treated for cuts and bruises at the
Matagorda County General Hospital. Neither was in serious condition
attendants said.
Highway Patrolman Cecil L. Taylor of Bay City said the three were
returning to Bay City from Wadsworth when the car ran off the side
of a narrow bridge on a county road and fell 15 feet to the bed of
Cottonwood Creek. The accident happened at 12:25 AM, he said.
Vaughn, a native of Matagorda County, was the manager of the Le
Tulle River Cotton Plantation near Bay City. He attended public
schools in Bay City, graduated from the San Marcos Baptist Academy
and attended Baylor University at Waco.
He as a past noble grand of the Odd Fellows Lodge.
Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Thursday at the Taylor
Brothers Funeral Home here. Burial will be in the
Cedarvale Cemetery.
Vaughn is survived by his wife, Mrs. Onella Vaughn of Bay City and
two daughters, Mrs. Ella Frances Parker and Mrs. Sally Kennedy, both
of Austin.

City, TX passed away on November
10, 2013 in Conroe, TX.
A Memorial
service will be held at The
Calvary Baptist Church in Bay
City, TX on Tuesday, December 3,
2013 at 1:00 p.m. with the
Reverend Lane Par-Due
officiating.
Mary Alice
was born in San Benito, TX to
Walter A. and Vivian Petty Bode
on September 26, 1932. She was
raised by step-mother Editha
Seggelke Bode . She went to Los
Fresnos High School and
graduated in 1950. She went on
to earn a certificate as a
Histologic Technician. She
worked for Matagorda General
Hospital for 14 years. She was
a founding member of the Texas
Society of Histotechnology and
served four years as Speaker of
the House and then four years as
treasurer before retiring.
Mary Alice
was also an avid bowler. She
served as President, 10 years,
Vice President one year and
Secretary for seven years of the
Bay City Women’s Bowling Assn.
She participated in 31 National
Tournaments, 29 Texas state
tournaments and 28 city
tournaments. She was City
Champion in 1981. She relocated
to Sun City Center, FL in 1989.
She served as President of the
Cypress Greens Ladies Golf Club
in 1991. Mary Alice relocated
to Round Rock, TX in 1998 and
then to Dayton, TX in 2005.
Mary Alice is
preceded in death by her
husband, Charles R. Watson; two
sons, Karl L. Watson and Michael
R. Watson; parents; and one
nephew.

survived by her daughter,
Jeannine Buller and husband
Billy of Dayton, TX;
granddaughters, Victoria Craig
and husband Jason of Baku,
Azerbaijan and Cynthia Janik of
Baytown, TX; step-granddaughter,

Funeral services for Denton Floyd Wiginton, 84, of Bay City, will be
held 2 p. m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with Dr. W. D. Baker
officiating. Burial will follow in the Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay
City.
Mr. Wiginton was born April 22, 1907, in the Hahn Community near El
Campo and died Aug. 11, 1991, at Matagorda House in Bay City.
A resident of Bay City since 1940, he was manager of the Production
Credit Association and co-owner of Bay City Packing Co. with his
sons. He also served two terms as president of the Bay City Chamber
of Commerce and was president of both the Lions Club and the Bay
City Knife and Fork Club. He also helped organize and served on the
board of the Matagorda County Fair and Livestock Association. He was
a member of the Bay City Country Club and was a member and former
chairman of the Board of Deacons of the First Baptist Church.
He is survived by his daughter, Gloria Murray of Bay City; a son and
daughter-in-law, Bill and Patsy Wiginton of Bay City; a sister,
Alice Thomason of El Campo; and five grandchildren, Douglas Murray
of Houston, Diane McKelvy of Bay City, Drew Murray of Sweeny, Kirk
Wiginton of San Antonio and Scott Wiginton of Houston; and 11 great
grandchildren.

Roxanna Beckman Wiginton
Funeral services for Roxanna Beckman Wiginton, 81, of Bay City are
scheduled for 2 p. m. today at First Baptist Church with the Rev. W.
D. Baker officiating. Burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery.
Mrs. Wiginton was born Sept. 5, 1905, in El Campo to William and
Katherine Stribling Beckman and died Feb. 21, 1987, at Matagorda
House.
She was a member of First Baptist Church and a former elementary
school teacher in Midfield, Van Vleck and Bay City. She was past
president of the Bay City Book Review Club, member of Bay City Study
Club, Flora Luncheon Study Club and Ladies Country Club Association.
Survivors include her husband, Denton Floyd Wiginton; a daughter,
Gloria Wiginton Murray; a son and daughter-in-law, William B. and
Patsy Wiginton, all of Bay City; a sister, Ruth Beckman Shult of
Houston; six grandchildren, Sharon Wiginton and Douglas Murray of
Houston, Diane Murray McKelvy of Bay City, Drew Murray of Sweeny;
Kirk Wiginton of San Antonio and Scott Wiginton of Dallas; and eight
great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers include W. A. Thompson, W. M. Penny, Vim Rye, Bert
Huebner, Robert Lundy, Dr. Robert B. Kelly, Dr. Fred Matthes, Don
Jean Taylor, Dr. Warren Criswell and Harry Norris.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jack Wiginton.
