March 21, 1898 – January 31, 1953

Funeral services for Martin D. Meyers, 55, of Cleveland, Ohio, who died here suddenly Saturday evening, are pending until some of the man’s relatives can be located, Sheriff Jack Cole said this morning.

According to Sheriff Cole, Meyers, a traveling cutlery salesman, was reported to his office as being very ill at the Sunnyland Courts about 5:00 Saturday afternoon.

After investigation Sheriff Cole’s deputies took the man to the Matagorda General Hospital, where he was checked in as a patient at 5:50 Saturday afternoon. Five minutes later the man was dead.

Apparently suffering from a heart condition, the Ohioan died sitting in a chair in his hospital room.

Driving a 1941 model Plymouth station wagon with a Cleveland, Ohio registration tag, number DD6800, the man had $519 in bills and some change on his person when he died, Sheriff Cole said.

The body is at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home, while attempts are being made to notify any relatives of the deceased.
