Funeral services for Marguerite DeRoch Walker, of Freeport, will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday in Holy Cross Catholic Church.

 

Walker, 81, was born in Goliad. The former Bay City resident was the wife of Clyde DeRoch, who preceded her in death in 1946. She married Norris Walker in 1951, and continued to live in Freeport after his death in 1959. She was a member of the Salvation Army Home Guild and the Altar Society at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Freeport.

 

She is survived by: four daughters, Mrs. Marian Hudson of Bay City, Mrs. Georgia Powell of Angleton, Mrs. Dorothy Nell McAda of Lake Jackson, and Mrs. Jane Baker of Freeport; one sister, Mrs. Mary B. Walker of Bay City; 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

 

Rosary will be recited at 7:30 PM Wednesday at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. Interment will be in Cedarvale Cemetery with the Rev. Joseph Wearden and the Rev. Charles Sonnier officiating. Pallbearers: H. D. Peabody, Roy Sorters, Pierre Jelensperger, Wilson Bevers, Marc Hanna and Donnie McAda.

Funeral Services For Infant Daughter Of The Watkins Held

Funeral services for Tana Lee Watkins, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin M. Watkins, were held at the Matchett-Newman Funeral Home Friday with the Rev. Ernest Deutsch officiating and burial in Cedarvale Cemetery.

Surviving are her parents and other relatives.

Johnny Scott Wear Dies En Route To Hospital

Johnny Scott Wear, infant son of Mr. and Mr. Johnny Wear passed away this morning enroute to Houston where his parents were taking him for treatment.

The baby is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Wear and three sisters, Loua Ann Downing and Jeanette and Judy Wear.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 3:00 o’clock at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home with the Rev. Ernest Deutsch in charge. Burial will be in Cedarvale.

Neil W. Weldon

Neil W. Weldon

Neil W. Weldon, 73, of Bay City passed away Thursday morning after a courageous battle with brain cancer.

He was born May 21, 1931 in Pushmatha Co., Oklahoma to the late Hiram Newton and Celia Jane Scott Weldon.

His family moved to Cedar Lane in 1935, and Neil graduated from Van Vleck High School in 1948. He then served in the U. S. Army with the 7th Cavalry and was stationed in Japan during the Korean Conflict.

He earned a B. S. in Geological Engineering from Texas A & M University in 1958. Neil had a career as a petroleum engineer and lived in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, and Israel. After semi-retiring as an engineer, Neil returned to school and earned an M. S. in Psychology from the University of Houston-Clear Lake in 1989.

Neil was active in the Matagorda Co. Crimestoppers for a number of years, and served as a board member, vice-president and president. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Bay City where he was a teacher of Adult II Sunday School. His interest and study of Biblical history and his experiences in the Middle East brought life to his lessons.

Survivors include: beloved wife and best friend of 47 years, Peggy Elkins Weldon of Bay City; daughter, Jennifer Weldon of Bay City; two sons and a daughter-in-law: David N. and Teresa Weldon of Arlington, Texas and Michael S. Weldon of Sugar Land; two granddaughters, Audrey and Claire Weldon both of Arlington; two nieces, Lana Weldon Nielsen of Humble and Jenel Weldon of Freeport; one nephew, Larry Leon Weldon of Bay City; one great niece, Amber Nielsen of Humble.

He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Paul E. and Larry Weldon.

Funeral service was held 2 p.m., Saturday, June 19, 2004, at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Zimmerman officiating. Interment followed at Cedarvale Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Dana Nielsen, Bob Freeman, James Orr, Bobby Rodriguez, Richard Schuler, Mike Vaughn, F. David Weldon, and Glen Weldon. Honorary Pallbearers were members of the Adult II Sunday School Class, and Members of the Matagorda Co. Crimestoppers.

Memorials may be made to the Matagorda Co. Crimestoppers, Hospice Support Group, Inc., or The First Baptist Church Prison Fund.

Arrangements were with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home.

Peggy Juanita Weldon

May 28, 1934 - December 12, 2020

Beloved Peggy Juanita (Elkins) Weldon, passed away 12/12/2020 of non- covid pneumonia.

Peggy Juanita Weldon, 86, of Bay City, Texas, passed away with daughter Jennifer and son, Michael by her side. She was born on May 28, 1934 to William Reily David and Bertha Juanita (Baird) Elkins in Dayton Texas.  Peggy graduated from Bay City High School in 1950, received her B.A. in Music and Elementary Education at the University of Houston and a M.S. in Counseling at the University of Houston at Clear Lake.

She was married to the late Neil Weldon in 1956. They lived in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Indonesia, and Saudi Arabia.  She is survived by Jennifer Weldon, sons David Weldon and wife Teresa (Tennison) Weldon and Michael Weldon and granddaughters Audrey Weldon and Claire (Weldon) Fritsche.

Peggy was an organist and pianist that played and taught music to many children and adults. She was able to share her love of music to many people that she taught.  Neil's work as a petroleum engineer enabled them to live overseas and fulfill their love of travel and history.

Peggy always saw the best in people and was so good at building up others so they could see themselves through her eyes.

Graveside services will be 1:00 PM Friday, December 18, 2020 at Cedarvale Cemetery with Dr. Mike Zimmerman officiating.

Edgar Earl “Pop” Weller

Edgar Earl “Pop” Weller, 84, of Cedarvale Road in Bay City, died Thursday at his home while mowing his yard. He was born on November 21, 1894, in Madison, Indiana. He was a member of the Church of Christ, the I. O. O. F., and retired from the phone company after 45 years of service. He was a resident of Bay City since 1928. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Carrie E. Lowe, of Freeport, 5 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. Services will be held at graveside Today, at 3:00 P. M. Officiating Clergy will be Eddie Callender, with St. Matthews Church of Christ and Auspices of I. O. O. F. Lodge. Interment will be at the Cedarvale Cemetery. Arrangements under the direction of Taylor Brothers Funeral Home.

Pauline Alice West
November 22, 1920 - July 26, 2013

Pauline Alice West, 92, of Bay City passed away July 26, 2013. She was born November 22, 1920 in Palmer, Texas to the late Paul E. Baker and Evie Bomer Baker.

She honorably served as a Technician Fifth Grade (Tech.5) in the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) of the U.S. Army during World War II. She was assigned to the 6715th WAC Communications Company. She was a life member of Philip H. Parker VFW Post 2438. She worked for David’s Firestone in Bay City for many years and retired from Wal-Mart at the age of 85.

Her husband, Leon West, and a grandson, Bobby Douglas, preceded her in death.

Survivors include: daughters, Beverly West of Bay City, Sandra Douglas and husband Larry of Bay City and Louise DeFrees and husband Mike of Granbury, Texas; sons, Jerry West and wife Teresa of Bay City and George West and wife Heidi of Dickinson; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

The family received friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Chester Sassman officiating.

Interment followed at Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City. Pallbearers were Mark West, Sam West, Troy Douglas, Jeremy Douglas, Paul Denham, Jeff West and James long. Honorary pallbearers were Leah Long, Jessica Douglas, Sara Staszesky and Cheryl Conley.

Earl James White

White, Earl James, age 62, a resident of Bay City, passed away in Richmond on March 15. Survivors include his mother, Mrs. W. L. White of Bay City; one son, Robert Earl White of Port Lavaca; three sisters, Mrs. Matt K. Otis of Wadsworth; Mrs. C. P. Williams of Matagorda and Mrs. A. M. Franz Sr. of Bay City; also, one brother, Audell W. White of Palacios and four grandchildren. Services will be held at Taylor Brothers Chapel on Tuesday, March 16 at 4:00 p. m. The Rev. Wayland Elmore of the First United Methodist Church will officiate with interment being Cedarvale Cemetery. Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in charge.
