(Too Late For Last Week) Mr. and Mrs. A. Foster went to Houston last Tuesday to meet their son Arthur B. Foster, who was returning home by plane from Chanute Air Force Base in Illinois. Mr. Foster completed his 6-months training with the Air Force. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Sleepy from Dayton, Ohio spent the first of last week with her mother, Mrs. Rupert, and her brother, Mr. Norman Rupert and his children. Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Stence are the proud parents of a baby boy, Ronald Wayne. The infant weighed 7 pounds 15 ounces and was born at 6:04 a. m. Friday, April 15, at the Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City. The top two honor graduates from the Tidehaven High School have been announced. Valedictorian is Mary Louise Kopecky of El Maton and salutatorian is Tony Garcia, from Markham. Honor roll students from the Blessing Elementary School for the fifth six weeks are: 1st grade--Mrs. Smith: Shirley Zimmerman, Deborah Zielonka, John Sullivan, Linda Louderback, Judy Nedbalek, Edwin Logan. 2nd grade--Mrs. McCloud: Anned Saha, Gale Ackerman, George Washington, Francis Kana, Patrick Nemec, Deborah Richardson. 3rd grade--Mrs. Cornett: Joe Lee Whitley, Jerry James Zemanek, Annette Zapalac, Mary Helen Gaas, Dona Ann Cox. 4th grade--Mrs. Schoelman: Mina Ruth Adkins, Beverly Crabb, Joyce Gunter, George William Hejtmanek. 5th grade--Mrs. Curnutt: John Henry Zemanek. 6th grade--Miss Jacobs: Jimmie Ardell Cornelius. 7th grade--Mrs. Pennington: Donna Lynn Glaze, Robert Glenn. 8th grade--Mr. Louderback: Stella Ruth Rickaway. Don't forget to come to the fifth annual Blessing Homecoming to be held at the Community House on Sunday, May 1st. Chicken barbecue will be served at 11:30 a. m. at $1.00 per plate. There will also be drinks and dessert. Entertainment will be furnished throughout the evening by the Tidehaven High School Band, the Blessing Junior High School Band, the Dixie Land Band boys from Palacios. There will be banjo and accordion music by Mr. Stanley Kopnicky and his son, Freddy, an acrobatic dance by Miss Ann Matthes of Bay City, square dancing by Blessing Elementary School students, and games and contests for the boys. Snow cones and cotton candy will be on sale and the Palacios Lions Club's ferris wheel will be there. The booklet compiled by Mrs. A. B. Pierce of the old Hawley Cemetery minute book will be on sale at $2.50 per copy. Pictures of the old church at Hawley will also be displayed and a painting of the old church by Forrest Bess of Bay City will also be on exhibition. Everyone come to the picnic and have an enjoyable time. Mr. Wallace L. Rickaway attended a postmaster's meeting Sunday near Bellville. Miss Geneva Kopnicky and Mr. Charles Rives were married Saturday morning at 10 o'clock at St. Peter's Catholic Church. The valedictorian of the 8th grade of the Blessing Elementary School is Suzanne Saha with a yearly average of 94.9. Salutatorian is Stella Ruth Rickaway with an average of 93.6. Mrs. Edith Law and Mrs. Edna Woodruff of San Antonio, formerly of Blessing, will be house guests of Mrs. A. B. Pierce, Sr. for the Blessing Homecoming and the following week. Their old friends are invited to call on them at Mrs. Pierce's home. Thirteen W. M. U. Ladies and Rev. Rayford Harris of the First Baptist Church in Palacios were dinner guests of Mrs. D. M. Glenn, Monday. The Blessing track team attended the University Interscholastic League 26-A meet in Bay City Saturday. Industrial won first place in the 7th grade division and Blessing won first place in the 8th grade division with 44 points. Industrial won second place in the 8th grade division with 43 1/3 points. Mr. and Mrs. August Rickaway returned home one day last week from Memphis, Tennessee where they had been visiting their daughter and family, the Don Hollars. The Blessing girls' softball team defeated the Markham girls 22-11 Friday at the Blessing school. Janice and Jo Barnett of Houston spent Saturday night and Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Rickaway. Jerry Hemphill tied for first place in the high jump at the regional track meet held in Victoria, Saturday. This qualifies him for the State meet. Den 1 of Cub Scout Pack No. 672 met Thursday afternoon at Mrs. O. L. Green's home. Mike Dannels presided at the meeting. History of the beginning of flying was given. Boys were encouraged to bring kites and other projects to the Pack meeting. Refreshments were served and games were enjoyed. Den 2 of Cub Scout Pack No. 672 met Thursday afternoon at Mrs. Elmer Cornett's home. The denner, Donnie Koppnicky, held the meeting. Plans were made for the pack meeting. After refreshments were served by Mrs. E. E. Hurta, the Cubs played baseball. A total of $121 was netted for the American Cancer Society drive which took place on April 13th. Those doing volunteer work were June Havel, Anne Sullivan, Mrs. Cecil Cole, Mrs. Lane Calhoun, Mrs. H. D. Garner, Mrs. F. E. Rickaway, Mrs. Henry R. Day, Mrs. Lee M. Pierce, and Mrs. J. E. Cornett. If there are those who were missed by the workers who wish to contribute to the cancer fund they may send their contributions to Mrs. J. E. Cornett in Blessing or Mrs. Scott Richardson in Bay City. Carey Butler left Monday for San Diego, California, after being at home visiting his parents on a two-week leave from his Navy base there. Carey will leave San Diego soon for Honolulu, Hawaii. Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Rickaway and family of Brazoria spent Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rickaway and Mrs. Elizabeth Herreth. Mr. and Mrs. Leo Neuszer are the grandparents of a daughter born to Mr. and Mrs. Leo Neuszer, Jr. of Markham. The baby was born in Matagorda General Hospital early Tuesday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Archie Witham and son Walter of Houston were Sunday visitors of Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Powell. Mrs. C. P. Butler went to Houston Monday to bring her grandmother, Mrs. F. M. Bicknell, home with her. Mrs. Bicknell will stay with the Butlers for a time before returning to her home in Lubbock. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rickaway, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Rickaway and family, and Mrs. Elizabeth Herreth visited Mr. and Mrs. D. Maschek in Hallettsville, Sunday. Sixteen members of Bay Scout Troop No. 672 of Blessing hiked out to the Carancahua River Saturday afternoon where they camped overnight. Leaders Frank E. Rickaway, John L. Sullivan and Arthur B. Foster went with the boys. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Day, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Rickaway and Stella Ruth, Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Adams, Mr. and Mrs. Henry T. Walters, and Mr. and Mrs. James Pennington and Andy attended the chicken-spaghetti supper sponsored by the Palacios Chapter No. 125, O. E. S. Friday night in Palacios. Mr. and Mrs. James C. Elmore and family of Baytown were Saturday visitors of Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Adams. Lessons in the Spanish language are being taught by Mrs. D. M. Mr. and Mrs. David King of Houston attended the wedding of her brother, A. J. Hebert, Jr. at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Blessing, Friday. They also visited with Mr. King's mother, Mrs. Peter Hamelink. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Rickaway and F. H. Rickaway spent Saturday night and Sunday in Houston visiting Mr. and Mrs. James Rickaway and family. Vacation Bible School will begin at the First Baptist Church on June 5th and will end on June 16th. Every child up to 16 years of age is invited to attend. Mrs. Boyd Foltyn, Jr. of Midfield and Mrs. Henry Day made a business trip to Palacios, Wednesday afternoon. Thirty-three seniors of the 1961 Tidehaven High School attended a chuckwagon supper given by the W. M. U. of the First Baptist Church, Thursday night. Brother W. B. Chandler was the Master of Ceremonies and Rev. Ferman Weedon of the First Baptist Church in Bay City was the speaker. Rev. Weedon also sang and played the guitar. Teachers attending were Supt. G. K. Nelson and his wife, Aleta Nelson, Principal and Mrs. Delvin Taska, Mrs. and Mrs. George Sparks, and Rev. and Mrs. R. E. Black. Mr. D. M. Glenn, superintendent of the Sunday School, was also present. The supper consisted of barbecued chicken, potato salad, beans, cabbage slaw, pickles, onions, rolls, tea and cookies. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Foster spent the week-end in Tomball visiting Mr. and Mrs. Tony Johs. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Gresham of Louise and Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Sowell and Vint of Edna visited Mr. and Mrs. Donald Glaze and family on Mother's Day. Spending Saturday night and Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. John L. Sullivan and family were Mr. and Mrs. Jack Sullivan of Runge., Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Powell went to Houston Sunday afternoon to observe the christening of their grandson, Walter Powell Witham, by Rev. A. C. Maxted at the St. Simon's Episcopal Church. Mrs. Elizabeth Herreth went to Sugar Valley Sunday with Mrs. Charles Barlow and Joel and ate dinner with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Brown. Mrs. Herreth visited with her daughter, Mrs. Barlow, at her home in Bay City later in the evening and then was brought home by her daughter. Saturday dinner guests of Mrs. Elizabeth Herreth were Martin Herreth and his two nieces, Ila and Hattie Belle, all of Bay City. They also visited with Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Schulte. A report from Mrs. Howard Garner indicates that approximately 775 enjoyed the chicken barbecue dinner at Blessing on May 7th, and that 850 attended throughout the day. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Brown over the week-end were Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Brown and son Bill of Bloomington. Mrs. C. P. Butler returned home Sunday after taking her grandmother to Lorenzo, Texas. Robin Lee Spring, weighing 7 lbs. 7 1/2 ozs., was born to Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Spring at 11:50 A. M. on Friday, August 11th, at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City. Charles Mikus of Houston visited his children at the home of Ed Day Saturday. The children are staying with their grandfather while their mother is in the hospital. Mrs. H. E. Powell checked into the Nightingale Hospital in El Campo Monday afternoon where she underwent surgery Tuesday morning. Mrs. Powell will be in the hospital about ten days. Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Matthes went to Dr. and Mrs. R. A. Matthes' fishing camp on Chinquapin River for supper Saturday night, where they were entertaining several couples from Dallas and Ft. Worth, who were classmates of Dr. Matthes in Dental School. Sunday visitors of Mrs. Elizabeth Herreth were Mr. and Mrs. Carl Herreth and family of Lolita and Lois Barlow of Bay City. Mr. Shelton Hebert of Markham and Miss Priscilla Hurta were united in marriage on Saturday, September 9th, at 3:00 p. m. at St. Peter's rectory in Blessing. Funeral services for J. E. Bullington of Bay City were held at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City at 2:00 p. m. Sunday. Interment was at Hawley. Mr. Bullington was the brother of Mrs. A. A. Brown and Miss Daisy Thompson. Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Junek and family of Palacios, whose home was destroyed by the storm are renting a house in Blessing. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Ackerman of Collegeport, whose home was destroyed by the hurricane, are staying temporarily with Mr. and Mrs. John Ackerman. Leaving their home in Olivia while the hurricane was blowing and staying with Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Powell was the Harold Brown family. A baby boy weighing 6 1/2 pounds was born to Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Vaclavick at the Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City on Wednesday, September 13th. The little boy was named Allen Neal. Mrs. Elizabeth Herreth and Mrs. Robert Rickaway went with Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Rickaway and family to Kerrville to stay during the hurricane. Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Epperson and Ginger, Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Twenty-five members and two new members of the St. Anne's Altar Society met Monday night at 7:30 p. m. and made plans for a covered dish dinner to be held on Sunday, October 15th. Prizes that should have been given at the cancelled Harvest Festival will be awarded. The Altar Society also will hold a bake sale on Saturday, October 21st, in front of Matthes' Hardware. A bridal shower honoring Miss Betty Jo Braden, bride-elect of Edwin Hubenak of Ganado, was held at St. Peter's Parish Hall at 2:30 p. m, Sunday. After the gifts were opened, the 33 guests enjoyed refreshments. A short Christmas play entitled "A Star is Shining" was presented Friday by the Junior and Intermediate Sunday School classes at the First Baptist Church. After the play was over the children were visited by Santa Claus and given bags of fruit and candy. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Allan Spring and children left Friday enroute to Luling and Kingsbury, where they are spending the holidays with their families. Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Adams, Jr. and son Mark are spending the holidays in Center, Texas, with Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Bridges. Mrs. Elizabeth Herreth, who came home from the hospital Wednesday after undergoing major surgery, is recuperating. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Rickaway visited the Lee Weber's in Bay City on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Mikus and family of Houston spent the holidays with Ed Day and son David. Lee Hall Pierce, who is stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana, is home for Christmas. Fred V. Rickaway of Brazoria and Sally Sue Roecker of Markham visited Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Rickaway and family on December 17th. The community welcomes Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Schulte celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at their home in Blessing, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Logan and Edwin of Blessing and Mrs. Grace Cowger of Markham, daughters of the couple gave them an "open house" party. In the houseparty were Mrs. W. B. Hiller of Markham, Mrs. L. M. Pierce, Mrs. Frank Bunk of Bay City, Mrs. L. P. Neuszer, Mrs. Arthur Foster, Mrs. Dick Powell, Mrs. J. E. Cornett, Mrs. Mary Salley and Mrs. A. R. Matthes. Approximately 150 friends and relatives from Houston, New Gulf, Bay City, Van Vleck, Palacios, Wadsworth, La Ward, Lolita, and Blessing attended. The serving table was set with a coffee service and punch bowl and centered with a white wedding cake with gold rose and centered with a miniature bride and groom. The house was decorated with many lovely flowers in yellow and gold. The Schulte's received many lovely gifts. David Day underwent surgery on his right eye Thursday in Columbus. He was accompanied to the hospital by his brother, Henry Day, and Frank E. Rickaway. He returned home the same day. Accompanying David to Columbus Friday to have his eye checked and re-bandaged were Mr. and Mrs. Henry Day. Henry Day also went with David to Columbus Monday to have his eye checked.

Mr. Lindamood underwent a routine check-up. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Earl Smith of Bay City visited Mrs. Ruby Barnes on Friday, April 20th. The Democratic Primary election will be held Saturday, Mary 5, in the old Blessing bank building. The west entrance will be used. A bake sale sponsored by the Palacios Chapter No. 125 O. E. S. will be held Saturday at the election site. Arthur B. Foster returned to Weslaco Saturday after spending his vacation here last week. Mrs. Jerry Hlosek, Mrs. Bertha Allen, and Angelina Kopnicky went to Houston Sunday to visit Mrs. Joseph Dedek, who is recovering from an operation at St. Luke's Hospital. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Ussery and family spent Saturday and Sunday in Luling. They attended funeral services for a friend. Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Murphy of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, visited Mrs. Ruby Barnes, April 17th. Mrs. Murphy is Mrs. Barnes' sister. The annual Blessing Homecoming will be held at the Community House on Sunday, May 6th. Barbecued chicken will be served beginning at 11:30 a. m. Plates will be $1.00 and drinks and desserts may be bought extra. Music will be furnished in the afternoon and there will also be a display of pictures of damage done in this area by Hurricane Carla. Everyone is invited to come and have a good time meeting old friends. The graduation class of 1945 held its second class reunion during the annual Blessing Homecoming Day on May 6th at the Blessing Community Center. Everyone enjoyed a delicious chicken barbecue dinner at noon. The class assembled in the library to reminisce through conversation and pictures. The following made up the 77 percent attendance: Marcella Orsak Naiser A letter was received from Clara Junek Gordon from Houston, Texas. It was our pleasure to have Mr. and Mrs. George Nelson and Mrs. Wheeler meet with us. Hats off to these teachers and to all the class-in-laws who so bravely attended, helping keep tab of the future graduation classes, our children. I believe that the third time is a charm and you will hear from us again. The Tidehaven Women's Club met Tuesday in the home of Mrs. George Hejtmanek, with 10 women present. A very interesting business meeting was held followed by a demonstration on preparing and frying sweet-raised doughnuts, which was given by Mrs. E. E. Hurta. Refreshments of sandwiches, chips, doughnuts, nuts, coffee and soda pop were served. The next meeting will be held June 12th at Axel Jensen with Mrs. Carl Jensen as co-hostess. A demonstration on Swedish pastry will be given. Joe T. Webster of Houston was a dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Day Tuesday. Mrs. Steve Neuman of Midfield spent last night in Wharton with her son Bobby Neuman, who was recovering from an operation that removed his tonsils. Mr. and Mrs. Tracy Butler and family and their daughter Becky and her husband, and their daughter Regina and her husband and baby daughter attended the Blessing Homecoming Sunday. The Butlers are former residents of Blessing, now living in Robstown. Their daughter Becky and her husband live in nearby Alice. Sammy Lee Powell, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lane Powell underwent a tonsillectomy Monday morning at the Outlar-Blair Hospital in Wharton.

The Bluejays were beat Thursday night by the Thunderbirds with a score of 3-2. These two teams are now tied for the lead in the major league play in Palacios. The Blessing Cardinals defeated the Yanks 4-3 Monday, May 21st. The Cardinals are now leading in the minor league. Vacation Bible School at the First Baptist Church will begin on June 4th.

(Too Late For Last Week) Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Nedbalek had the Johnnie Nedbaleks over for a barbecue supper Saturday, July 21st. Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Barber and family of Orlando, Florida and Mr. Barber's niece, arrived in Blessing Saturday for a three week's visit with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rickaway. The First Baptist Church in Blessing are holding revival services through Sunday, August 12. The services begin each night at 7:30. Rev. Paul Strother of Houston is preaching and Milton Tyler of Palacios is leading the singing, with Gale Smith at the piano. The Carl Jensen family spent the week-end in Harlingen, where Mr. Jensen attended a meeting of the Grovers' Marketing Association, of which he is a member of the Board. They also visited Reynosa and Matamoros, Mexico. Mrs. Cecil Cole underwent major surgery at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City, Friday. Mrs. Christie Fondon was admitted to M. D. Anderson Hospital in Houston Monday for tests and observation. Mrs. Carl Jensen's aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Barnhart of Ozark, Arkansas visited her and her family. Mrs. J. B. M. Glenn family have returned from a three weeks' vacation. They visited Mr. and Mrs. Charles Denmon and family in Beaumont and then went to Kirbyville where they visited Mr. and Mrs. Leo Glenn. The Glenns then went to Eunice, Louisiana where they visited the William Smith family. Their next stop was Grapeland, where they visited Shep Williams and his sister, Lois. They took in the Six Flags Over Texas and also visited the Eastern Star Home in Arlington, Texas. They spent the past week in Pearland visiting the Roger Lovell family. Frank H. Rickaway made a business trip to Houston. He brought his sister, Stella Ruth, home with him. Martha Herreth returned to Blessing with them for a visit with the Steve Rickaways.

Miss Nancy Carol Hurta of Midfield attended a birthday party Monday afternoon for Miss Mary Baker at the E. J. Baker home in Blessing. Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Rickawy and Jeanette attended a postmasters' meeting Sunday at Bleiblerville, Texas. Jeanette Rickaway celebrated her sixth birthday Friday with a party at her home. Attending the party were the children of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Sullivan, Mark Adams, Keith Phillips, Susan, Gerald, Mark, and Robert Tobola, and David Phillips. Refreshments of cake, ice cream and punch were served to the children. Party favors given to the guests were balloons and horns. The party began at 3:00 o'clock in the afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Foster spent the week-end in Tomball and La Marque visiting Mr. and Mrs. Tony Johs and Arthur B. Foster. Pat, Mike Douglas Matthes, sons of Dr. and Mrs. Fred Matthes of Bay City, spent Friday and Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Matthes. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Herreth and [children] of Lolita were Saturday visitors of Mrs. Elizabeth Herreth. Earl Adams, Sr., Mrs. Ruth Matthes, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Hurta and Nancy, Ed Henderson, Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Hurta and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Cornelius attended the barbecue at the LeTulle Park Sunday sponsored by the O. E. S. Chapter No. 380 of Bay City. J. B. Lindamood has been fitted with an artificial leg and is able to walk on it now. T. J. Patterson of Wharton, cotton buyer for Sorrel and Heyne, Inc., has rented a building next to the Joe Johs service station. Mrs. D. M. Glenn and children spent last week visiting the Robert Lowell family in Pearland. Darrell Piwonka celebrated his 7th birthday Saturday with a party at his home at 3 p. m. Twenty children and four adults attended the party. Refreshments of cup cakes, ice cream, cake, and cold drinks were served after a few games were played. Toy whistles were given to the guests as party favors. Ino Vaclavick is reported as getting along nicely at Matagorda General Hospital after having an arm amputated following an accident at the Blessing Co-Op Gin on Tuesday, August 7th. Mr. John L. Sullivan entertained with a jewelry party at her home Thursday morning. The hostess served refreshments of sandwiches, cookies, chips, peppermint candy, and tea after the guests modeled the costume jewelry. A new business was opened recently in the building formerly occupied by Mrs. Walter Clements. The new establishment is known as Ella's Lounge and is operated by Mr. and Mrs. Ford Sifford. Jimmy Elmore, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Elmore of Baytown, spent last week with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Morris W. Adams. Visiting Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Spring and family Friday, Saturday and Sunday were Mrs. Spring's sister, Mrs. Bruce Morris and daughter Donna of Luling and Airman 3rd Class and Mrs. Frank Baker of Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio. Mr. Baker is originally from Westchester, Pennsylvania, and Mrs. Baker is the daughter of Mrs. Morris.

Mr. Lindsey Rickaway attended a postmaster's convention in College Station on Friday and Saturday. Mrs. Gaylon Harvey, the former Rose Mary Orsak, and her children Debbie and Timothy, are living in Palacios now while her husband is working in El Paso. They had been living in South Dakota for several years and will move to Corpus Christi in the near future. Mrs. M. W. Adams, Mrs. A. R. Matthes, Mrs. Arthur Foster, and Mrs. H. T. Walters worked at the registration tables for the oral Sabin vaccine polio drive in Palacios, Sunday. A large percentage of the Blessing residents took advantage of the opportunity to get the Type III vaccine. Mrs. A. R. Matthes reported that 5200 doses of the vaccine were administered in Palacios. Mr. and Mrs. Fred V. Rickaway moved to Huntsville this week-end, where they will both attend Sam Houston State College. They will be Juniors. Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Butler have gone to Uvalde, Texas, to hunt white-wing doves. The American Legion Port No. 649 of Blessing held a free barbecue at 6:00 p. m. for members of this post on Monday, September 10th. They were honored by the presence of National Commander Bacon of Indianapolis, Indiana. A dance for the members followed the dinner. The Tidehaven High School football team won their first game of the season in several years Friday night when they defeated the Van Vleck Leopards by a score of 26-6. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Osina have moved to Ft. Worth, where Martha Ann is doing her Senior year work at Texas Christian University. Arthur B. Foster, who is now living in Galveston, was at home for the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Rickaway and Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Vacek, Sr. went to West Columbia Friday night to see the West Columbia football team coached by Tex Kassen, defeat the Boling Bulldogs, 12-9. The ladies of the W. M. U. Circle of the First Baptist Church held a prayer retreat Monday morning. They all enjoyed a covered dish luncheon at noon. Mrs. Michael Pierce, Mrs. H. L. Powell, Mrs. Leonard Mican, Mrs. Walter McKissick of Ashby, and Mrs. Henry Day are bowling in the Coffeetime League on Wednesday morning in Bay City. The team is being sponsored by Etta's Beauty Shop in Blessing and the two alternate bowlers are Mrs. F. E. Rickaway and Mrs. Wilbur Vaclavick. Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Smith of Lake Jackson visited Mrs. Elizabeth Herreth Tuesday and took Mrs. Herreth to Lolita Tuesday night to visit Mr. and Mrs. Carl Herreth and family. Visiting Mrs. Herreth on Thursday was her sister, Mrs. Austin Savage of Bay City.

Robert Rickaway was taken to Nightingale Hospital in El Campo Saturday afternoon and will be there this week under observation. Week-end visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Foster were Mr. and Mrs. Tony Johs of Tomball and Arthur B. Foster of Galveston. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Jensen became grandparents last week when a baby was born to Mr. and Mrs. Larry Jensen of El Campo. Mr. and Mrs. George Hessong of Tallulah, Louisiana visited the Robert Rickaways Friday afternoon. The Rickaways went to Brazoria Friday night and took the A. L. Rickaway family with them to Lake Jackson to visit Mr. and Mrs. Robert McKinney, Charlie and Elsie. Mrs. George Vaculin went to Taylor, Texas over the week-end. Mrs. Frances Witham of Houston spent the week-end in Blessing with her parents and her son, Walter. Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Rickaway spent Saturday and Sunday in Richmond visiting Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Calhoun. Mrs. Charles Mikus and family of Houston spent Saturday and Sunday visiting Mr. Ed Day and David. Mr. Day went home with his daughter for a few days. Mrs. W. B. Chandler took Mrs. Christie Fondon to M. D. Anderson Hospital in Houston Tuesday, September 25th. Mrs. Fondon had been in the hospital in Palacios about two weeks prior to her being taken to Houston. Laurence Morris of San Antonio spent a few days at home last week. Mrs. Ellen Cornelius attended funeral services Wednesday in Millican, Texas, for her sister, Mrs. Ben Curd. Frank Longoria is the new operator of the cafe formerly fun by Mrs. Ruby Barnes. Miss Barbara Orsak, bride-elect of George Manna of Bay City, was honored with a bridal shower Sunday at 2 p. m. at the National Hall in El Maton. The sixteen hostesses presented the honoree with a set of stainless steel tableware.

(Too Late For Last Week) Robert Rickaway came home from the hospital Friday, but will remain at home for two or three weeks before going back to work. Mrs. A. P. Borden and Miss Theoplis O'Neal of Wharton visited Mrs. Lee Hall Tuesday on her 95th birthday. Miss Annette Henkes of El Maton and Mr. James Naser [Naiser?] of Taiton were married Saturday, October 20th, in St. Peter's Catholic Church. They will make their home in Houston. Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church in Blessing, Sunday at 4 p. m. for Mrs. Christie Fondon, age 38. Interment was in Hawley Cemetery. Sunshine and Carolyn Fondon left Sunday for Madisonville, where they will make their home with one of Mrs. Fondon's sisters. Benny Fondon left Monday for Daingerfield to live with another sister of his mother's, and La Verne Fondon went to Bowie to live with an aunt. John William Fondon will continue his education at Texas A. & M. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Gurecky and son Edward of El Maton went to Victoria Sunday to visit with Barbara Gurecky, who is attending a parochial school there. Mr. and Mrs. G. B. McKissick and Mr. and Mrs. Walter McKissick of Ashby are vacationing in Las Vegas, Nevada. Scoutmaster Frank E. Rickaway and ten members of Boy Scout Troop No. 672 went to Houston Saturday and went to the zoo and to Playland Park. Those who went were Billy and Mike Dannels, David Joe Bartosh, David Parker, Robert and Rayford Wallace, Donnie Kopnicky, and Kenneth, Ronnie and Johnny Knebel.

A new fire house for the Blessing community is now completed and members of the Volunteer Fire Department will hold a covered dish supper at the Blessing Community House on Saturday, December 1, beginning at 6:00 p. m. to celebrate the occasion. The new fire department, which is under Charter Number 188123 invite everyone to attend and bring a covered dish. Donations will be accepted at this time to benefit the department. The turkey dinner held Sunday at St. Peter's Parish Hall, which was sponsored by St. Ann's Altar Society, was termed a huge success by members of the society. Twenty-three turkeys were baked and served for the event. Ed Baros returned home from a Houston hospital over the weekend, after undergoing abdominal surgery. Mrs. Billy Jalufka was the honoree at a kitchen and linen shower held Wednesday night at the National Hall in El Maton. Mrs. Victor Tobola and son Martin, Mrs. Ola Mae Logan and son Edwin, Mike and Jim Tobola, Jr., Gary Rupert, and Mrs. Lindsey Rickaway and Jeanette were among those from Blessing who attended the Shrine Circus in Houston Saturday. Miss Susie Hurta of Midfield was crowned Homecoming Queen at the Tidehaven-Louise football game Friday night at the Tidehaven High School. Other queen nominees were Miss Gay Akins of Ashby and Miss Linda Wright of Markham. The queen received a bouquet of roses, and a miniature football medallion and the runners-up received boxes of candy and also a miniature football medallion. Miss Anne Fabrygel has moved to Blessing to live with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Fabrygel and Frankie, after working at the telephone office in Bay City. Bobby Hlozek of Marshall is at home for a week's vacation with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Hlozek, Donnie and Michael. Hugh Spring and son, Kim, went to Luling Friday night to go deer hunting. They returned home Sunday night with a 5-point buck. The monthly meeting of the Colorado Association Youth Fellowship was held at the First Baptist Church Saturday night. A religious film was shown by C. C. Tinnin, after which games were played and refreshments were served. Some of the groups represented were the First Baptist Church in Palacios, Trinity Baptist Church of Palacios, First Baptist Church of Markham, First Baptist Church, Temple Baptist Church, both of Bay City, First Baptist Church of Ganado and Emmanuel Baptist Church of Wharton. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rickaway visited Mr. and Mrs. D. Maschek in Hallettsville Wednesday through Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Day and Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Rickaway went to Houston Saturday to visit Mrs. Edna Mikus and children. Mrs. Fred Day brought her daughter, Geneava, home from the Maruitz Memorial Hospital in Ganado, Monday, Nov. 12th, after she had been confined there for two days with a chest infection. The Palacios Chapter No. 125 O. E. S. will have a chili supper on Friday, November 30th, at the Weimer Hall of the First Methodist Church in Palacios. Tickets will go on sale this week for $1.25.

Mrs. Mickey Arnold left Thursday morning en route to Santa Anna, California, where her husband is in the army. Construction began Monday on a new cafe to be owned and operated by Mr. and Mrs. M. T. Despite the cold weather, the Matagorda County Federation of Women's Clubs, which met at 10 a. m. at the home of Mrs. A. B. Pierce, had a good turnout. Sixty ladies attended the meeting on Saturday. The luncheon consisted of turkey and dressing and all the trimmings and ham. Mr. and Mrs. Tracy Butler, Kathy and Robert Alvin of Pledger visited Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Adams, Sr. on Sunday. Robert George Butler of Blessing and Gloria Faye of Markham registered last week for the second semester at Wharton County Junior College. Mr. and Mrs. John Ackerman were in Beaumont Saturday visiting Mr. and Mrs. Joe Koch and family. Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Braden became grandparents for the second time at 10 a. m. Thursday when their daughter, Mrs. Larry Quiroz, gave birth to a baby boy in Houston. Mrs. F. E. Rickaway and Randy went with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Neuman of Midfield, to Wharton Sunday afternoon to visit Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Neuman and son, Allen. Kenneth Pesak, son of Mr. and Mrs. Adolf Pesak, had an appendectomy performed Tuesday at Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City. The former Regina Butler of Blessing, Mrs. Kenneth Emshoff, of Robstown, gave birth to her second daughter at noon on Sunday, January 13th. The little girl weighed 8 pounds and 1 oz. The First Baptist Church held a study course on the Book of Matthew last week from Sunday through Wednesday night. Mrs. W. B. Chandler visited with Mrs. Charles Krueger Tuesday in the Rugeley-Blasingame Hospital in Wharton, where she will undergo major surgery Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Garner and family were in Many, Louisiana recently to attend funeral services for her mother, Mrs. Kate Jackson Chislom of Shreveport. Tom Cornelius of Midfield had a toe removed at the Nightingale Hospital in El Campo. Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Rickaway visited Mrs. Earnest Tipton of Edna and her 3 pound, 3 ounce baby son in the hospital in Ganado. This is the first child for the former Barbara Fitzgerald of Midfield. Recent newcomers to Blessing are Mr. and Mrs. Sammy Sullivan and four children.

Phillips in Brazoria, Sunday. Dr. Russell A. Matthes and his daughters, Melinda and Cynthia, visited Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Matthes on Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Powell and Walter spent Saturday night and Sunday in Houston visiting the Pete Chanacks. Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Matthes were guests of Dr. and Mrs. Russell Matthes of Bay City to the 53rd Annual Bay Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America banquet and meeting at the Rice Hotel in Houston, Thursday. Dr. and Mrs. H. C. Matthes also attended and Dr. Matthes received the Silver Beaver Scouter's Award. This award is the highest honor awarded in scouting. Mr. and Mrs. Tony Johs and Jackie of Tomball and Jackie's fiancée, Miss Tonie Johnson of Houston, spent Saturday night and Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Foster. Carlos Vacek, who recently left his job in Monahans and now has a job in Victoria working for the S. I. C. office, was home for the week-end. Mrs. Wilbur Vaclavick and her two children, Ellen and Neal, left Friday for St. Augustine, Florida, where she will spend about six weeks with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Palmer. Mrs. Vaclavick made the trip by automobile with her sister, Mrs. Bobby Talbot of Victoria. Mr. and Mrs. Abner Siegfried returned home on Wednesday, Jan. 23, after attending funeral services for Mr. Siegfried's brother, Emanuel Siegfried, on Monday, Jan. 21, at the Merritt Church in Elk City, Okla. Burial within the Ural Cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Hubenak and daughter Karen visited Mr. and Mrs.. A. J. Braden in their home here, Saturday. The local men's basketball team defeated the Palacios team Friday night in Port Lavaca in a very fast and exciting game with the score ending 29 to 28. The Blessing team will play the First Christian Church team from Port Lavaca next Friday night at 9:30 p. m. The Blessing team have played 10 games with various Bay City, Palacios, Boling and Lolita teams and have not been defeated. Roger Spring of Wharton visited the Hugh Spring family Friday and then Sunday the Hugh Springs visited the Roger Springs in their home. Dinner guest of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Day on Thursday was Joe T. Webster of Houston. Mr. Webster and Howard Hough, also of Houston, were dinner guests of the Days on Friday. Mrs. Jimmy Rickaway, along with her mother, Mrs. J. E. Fitzgerald of Midfield, and her two sisters, Mrs. Frank Ray and Mrs. Jack Ellis of Bay City, went to Edna Monday afternoon to be with Mrs. Rickaway's sister Barbara when they learned of the accidental death of Barbara's husband, Earnest Tipton. Mr. Tipton was killed at 12 noon Monday, Jan. 28, when he fell head first from a 20-ft. scaffold where he worked at Alcoa at Point Comfort.

Mrs. Austin Savage was a Wednesday afternoon visitor of Mrs. Elizabeth Herreth. Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Smith of Lake Jackson visited Mrs. Elizabeth Herreth Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rickaway visited Mr. and Mrs. Albert Lee Rickaway and family in Brazoria, Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. John L. Sullivan and family spent the week and in San Antonio visiting Mrs. Katie Emma Vaclavick. Frank Hlozek, Sr. entered the Nightingale Hospital in El Campo, on Friday. The Blessing men's basketball team is still undefeated after they won over the First Christian Church team of Port Lavaca Friday night with a score of 47-24. Blessing will play another Port Lavaca team on Friday, February 8th, at 8:10 p. m. All members of the Blessing Volunteer Fire Department are urged to attend the next meeting Monday, February 11th.

Carlos Vacek of Victoria was here for the week-end visiting the E. R. Vacek families. R. H. Rhodes is hospitalized in Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City. He was admitted Saturday night. Jim Tobola, Jr. and Mike Tobola attended the Fat Stock Show and Rodeo in San Antonio Saturday with Frank Gayle. They returned home Sunday. Miss Patsy Skutca, who is in nurse's training in Galveston, spent the week-end with her parents and her sister, Jo Lynette. Miss Betty Hickl of El Maton was crowned basketball sweetheart and Frank Fabrygel of Blessing was selected as basketball beau at the Eagle Lake game at the Tidehaven High School gym Friday night. Runners-up for sweetheart were D'Ann La Beff of Markham and Susie Balusek of El Maton. Miss La Beff was escorted by Jerome Hickl and Miss Balusek was escorted by R. A. Fellers. Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Hurta and Nancy Carol visited the Norman Guynes family in Hitchcock and the Garland Guynes family in Clute, Sunday. The Tidehaven Women's Club will meet on Tuesday, February 19th at 2 p. m. at the home of Mrs. A. B. Benbow in Ashby. Mrs. Dwayne Corporon of Collegeport will give a demonstration in cake decorating. Mr. and Mrs. Lindsey Rickaway were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. White, Sr. in Palacios, Wednesday night. The dinner was in honor of Wanda Rickaway's birthday. Mr. and Mrs. Homer T. Phillips and David have taken a foster child into their home. Gary Lynn Finch came to them on January 30th from Beeville, Texas. The Blessing men's basketball team will have a tournament on February 26th, Feb. 28th, and Mar. 2nd. The tournament will be held at the Tidehaven High School gymnasium and all proceeds will go to the Blessing Volunteer Fire Department. There will be three games played on the 26th and 28th of February, with the first game beginning at 6 p. m., the second game to be played at 7:30 p. m. and the last game at 9 p. m. On March 2nd, there will be two games, one at 1:30 p. m. and the other at 3 p. m. Finals will be held on Saturday, March 2nd, beginning at 6 p. m. All teams interested in entering this tournament should contact Bill Bloskas or Lee Hall Pierce in Blessing. Mrs. Henry Day had a new experience when she entered the hospital in Bay City Monday afternoon for the first time in her life. She was there until Wednesday morning undergoing tests. Dr. and Mrs. Fred T. Matthes and family of Bay City enjoyed supper Sunday night with Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Matthes. The occasion marked the fifth birthday for Ellen Matthes. Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Matthes and Mrs. Della Braden enjoyed a family dinner Sunday at the W. L. Ellis home in Collegeport. Mr. and Mrs. Brent Kimport of Winner, South Dakota were guests at the dinner, also, Mrs. Kimport is a sister of Roy Nelson. Mrs. Harry Lane Powell and son Sammy Lee were in Houston, Feb. 4th, visiting a photography studio. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Rickaway and Stella Ruth and Mrs. Elizabeth Herreth visited in Bay City Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Lee Weber. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Day and Stella Ruth Rickaway visited Joseph Barlow in Matagorda General Hospital Sunday night. Mr. Barlow is recuperating nicely from an emergency operation performed on Tuesday, January 5th. Mrs. Jerry Lezak of El Maton has been in the hospital in Bay City for the past two weeks after having major surgery. Mrs. Frances Witham and a friend, Marilyn, from Houston were in Blessing visiting the H. E. Powells over the week-end. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rickaway and Mrs. Elizabeth Herreth visited the A. L. Rickaway family in Brazoria, Sunday. Mrs. Elmer Cornett and Mrs. Lee M. Pierce were in Houston, Friday. Rev. W. B. Chandler spent three days in the hospital recovering from bruises incurred when he was thrown from a horse late Thursday evening. Rev. Chandler came home Monday morning. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Stence became the parents of a baby boy weighing 6 lbs., 1 oz. at 4:30 p. m. on Monday, January 4th, at Matagorda General Hospital. The Blessing men's basketball team defeated the St. Paul's Methodist team of Bay City at Blessing Wednesday night by a score of 95-58. The Blessing team also won their game in Port Lavaca, Friday night by a score of 35-25 when they beat the Presbyterian Church team of Port Lavaca. The Blessing team will play the Point Comfort team Friday, Feb. 15, in Port Lavaca at 6:50 p. m.

Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Rickaway and Jeanette, F. H. Rickaway, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Rickaway, Mr. and Mrs. August Rickaway, and Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Phillips, David and Gary, all went to Jones Creek Sunday to visit with Mr. and Mrs. Curtis R. Rickaway and family. Mr. Rickaway will be leaving shortly for St. Louis, Missouri, where he will enter a hospital to have a very serious spinal operation performed. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Smith and family had as Sunday visitors in their home, Mr. Robert Smith, Patsy and Michael, of Alice, Texas. The Tidehaven High School Senior Class of 1963 were honored with a wiener roast Saturday evening on the banks of the Tres-Palacios River. The three hostesses were Miss Gay Akins, Miss Betty Jean Hickl and Miss Susie Balusek. The District 27-A track meet was held at Tidehaven High School Saturday and Pearland won first place, with Tidehaven coming in second, and East Bernard took third place. Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Rickaway and Jeanette and F. H. Rickaway visited Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Rickaway in Brazoria and Mr. and Mrs. Delmar Pettigrew and family in Old Ocean, Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Bryan Smith of Lake Jackson spent Thursday night with Mrs. Elizabeth Herreth and went back home Friday. Miss Stella Ruth Rickaway and Miss Midge Pesak represented Tidehaven High School in the senior girls' doubles division in tennis at the district meet held in East Bernard, Friday. They won second place by defeating Louise in a 6-0 set and then a 6-1 set. They lost to Eagle Lake in two 6-1 sets. Miss Jo Lynette Skutca drew a bye and then lost her match to a Louise girl in the senior girls' singles division. Mrs. Elizabeth Herreth visited with Mr. and Mrs. Albert Lee Rickaway and children in Brazoria Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Parker came home early Sunday morning after spending three weeks on their farm near Floyd, Arkansas. Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Ussery and Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Matthes left Friday morning for a trip to Monterrey, Mexico, where they did some sight-seeing. Sunday, they went to the bullfights there and came home by way of Falcon Dam. They got home Monday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Cornett had two of their grandchildren, Clay and Cole Cornett of Houston, with them for a few days last week, while their father James "Budger" Cornett had an accident while working at his job and the bones in both wrists were broken. All the committees for the annual Blessing reunion have met and plans have been made for the affair to be held on Sunday, May 5th on the Community House grounds. Chicken barbecue will be served at noon and there will be entertainment throughout the afternoon. Roy Jensen came home from the hospital in Bay City Saturday after being there all last week with a back injury suffered in a tractor accident at his home. The Blessing men's basketball team defeated the Point Comfort team in Port Lavaca Friday night by a score of 36-35. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Piwonka, Carol Ann and Patty, of Louise, Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Junek and family and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Turek and daughters, Nancy and Carol Ann of Palacios were Sunday visitors of Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Piwonka and family. Miss Sue Hemphill and Miss Linda King of Markham won second place in the junior girls' doubles division. Miss Ardell Cornelius of Midfield won third place in the junior girls' singles division in tennis. David Joe Bartosh and Gene Dukes won first place Monday in the District 27-A tennis meet in East Bernard in the junior boys' doubles division and Smoot Roecker of Markham won third place in the senior boys' singles division. The Blessing men's basketball team won second place in a tournament in Lolita last week. They defeated Edna Tuesday night and then they beat Lolita by a score of 66-44 Thursday night. They lost to the Palacios team Saturday night in the finals by a score of 43-41. Palacios received the first place trophy and Edna got third place. Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Adams left Houston Wednesday morning by special bus where they went to Shreveport, Louisiana. They met with 1200 employees of United Gas in the Captain Shreve Hotel and had breakfast. Then they all attended a barbecue lunch at the fairgrounds. Wednesday night, everyone attended the 25-year dinner for the employees which was held at a huge company building at Cedar Grove. Mr. Adams has been with his company for 27 years. They returned home to Blessing on Friday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Calhoun of Richmond spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. DeLane Calhoun, Billy and David. Second Lieutenant Earl Foster and his wife Nellie and their year-old son were in Blessing a few days last week visiting friends and his aunt, Mrs. Hazel Baker. The Fosters were stationed in Ft. Benning, Georgia in Columbus and will be going to Alabama soon, where Lieutenant Foster will attend flight school. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Spring and family went to Lolita Sunday and visited Mr. and Mrs. Jake Orndoff and children.

Mrs. Alvena Laslie gave a barbecue supper at her home last Sunday evening in honor of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Milligan of Salinas, California, parents of Mrs. Lonnie B. Laslie. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Laslie and family, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Neighbors and family of Alvin, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Laslie and girls, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Harter and family, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Greenawalt and family and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Elliott and family of Palacios, and Mrs. Nancy Calk of Bay City. Mr. and Mrs. John Ackerman celebrated their golden wedding anniversary at their home on Sunday, May 26. Their children and grandchildren hosted an open house celebration for them. Those assisting in the houseparty were Mrs. Frank Miska, Mrs. Bob Ackerman, Eileen Ackerman, Mrs. Leslie Adams, Mrs. K. J. Richardson of Van Vleck, Mrs. Leo Neuszer, and Mrs. H. E. Powell. Miss Gale Ackerman assisted at the guest registry table, which was decorated with beautiful yellow mums. The 122 guests were served cake, mints, coffee, and punch. The Ackermans received many lovely and useful gifts from their relatives and friends. Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Brown, Mr. and Mrs. G. E. Sifford, Daisy Thompson, and Mrs. Ruth Matthes attended the annual Collegeport Day celebration at the Mopac House, May 25. Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Smith, Gale, Joyce, Arvid and Buzzy went to Corpus Christi Monday to attend commencement exercises for Mrs. Mary Lou (Smith) Thurman, a graduate of the University of Corpus Christi. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Johnston were honored with a house-warming on May 26th. The hostesses were Mrs. D. M. Glenn and Mrs. A. C. Harter. The 30 guests who came throughout the afternoon were served delicious cake, coffee, and cold drinks. Mrs. Ellen Cornelius, with her nurse, Mrs. Bush, spent the weekend at the home. George Cornelius of Beaumont and Mrs. Ted Davant of Port Lavaca visited their mother while she was home. Mr. and Mrs. Mansvet Jalufka of El Maton moved to Blessing last week. Assisting them in the job of moving were Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kacer, John Domorod, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Vavra and Mr. and Mrs. Ed Jurek. Mrs. W. A. Sanford is confined to the hospital in El Campo where she is being treated for a heart ailment. Mr. and Mrs. Dick Wheeler went to Fort Worth last Sunday to attend commencement exercises for their daughter Martha Ann Osina, who graduated from T. C. U. Bennie Fondon, who graduated from Daingerfield High School May 23rd, arrived in Blessing Monday to attend the commencement exercises at Tidehaven High School. Bennie returned to Daingerfield on the bus Wednesday, where he will go with his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Billy Lanier, to Hollister, Florida, for a visit with his brother, Earl Truman, and his grandmother and another aunt and uncle. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Skutca, Sr. and Jo Lynette moved into their new brick home directly behind their business establishment a few weeks ago. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Skutca, Jr. have moved from Midfield to the home vacated by the elder Skutcas. Rev. Verner Stokes of Palacios filled the pulpit at the First Baptist Church last Sunday morning in the absence of Rev. W. B. Chandler, who was called to Killeen, Texas to preach the funeral services for his wife's uncle, M. L. Williams. The First Baptist Church had its preparation day Saturday for the Vacation Bible School, which will be from June 3rd through June 14th from 8:30 to 11:30 a. m. After the students were registered, there was a parade, then everyone met at the church for refreshments. Principal for the school is Mrs. H. T. Phillips and the pianist, Mrs. Henry Day. Taking over the secretarial duties for the school is Mrs. Robert Rickaway and Mrs. M. W. Adams, and Mrs. H. T. Walters are on the refreshment committee. Miss La Verne Fondon from Bowie, Texas, was in Blessing last Sunday visiting friends. She will spend some time in Palacios with her aunt, Mrs. John Harper and family. Mrs. W. B. Chandler attended her granddaughter's birthday party at the Danny Goodman home in Angleton last Friday.

L. D. Richardson, a long-time resident of Blessing, passed away on Friday, July 26th, in a San Antonio hospital. Funeral services were held at Taylor Brothers Funeral Home in Bay City at 4 p. m. Sunday. Interment was in Hawley Cemetery. Pallbearers were W. L. Rickaway, Steve Rickaway, Lee M. Pierce, Pete Hamelink, A. M. Logan and E. R. Adams, Sr. Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Havel, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Shimek and family of Palacios, and Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Havel and family attended a family reunion of the Havel family in Shiner on Sunday. Immediately after the reunion, the F. J. Havels left for a vacation trip to California. They will visit one of Mrs. Havel's friends, who formerly lived in Palacios and was in their wedding. Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Walker of Aldine and Mr. and Mrs. Fred H. Rickaway of Houston spent the week-end with Frank H. Rickaway. Mr. and Mrs. Fred V. Rickaway of Huntsville visited on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Mienke moved from Blessing last week to the Summers ranch in Francitas. Mrs. W. B. Chandler returned home this week-end from her trip to Glorieta, New Mexico. Mrs. Bernice Byron, who moved to Blessing from Austin last week, will be the new proprietress of a malt and sandwich shop, which will open on Wednesday, July 31st. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Spring and family moved the last of their belongings into their new home in Lolita, Saturday. Mr. Spring's brother, Roger and his wife Jo, from Wharton, were over to help them with the moving. Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Bess and family of Corpus Christi spent a few days last week with Mr. and Mrs. Pete Hamelink. Sunday visitors of the Hamelinks were Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Junek and family of Palacios and Mr. and Mrs. David King and family of Houston. Mrs. Mary Bartosh and Mary Ann returned home recently from a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bartosh and family in Westwego, Louisiana. Visiting with Mrs. Henry Day and Mrs. Elizabeth Herreth on Friday were Mrs. Jack Odell Brown and her daughter Sharilyn of Sugar Valley. The Bay City Sparks softball team defeated the Blessing Merchantettes 10-4 on Friday night in Blessing. The winning pitcher was Diane Herreth and the losing pitcher was Rose Marie Zemanek. Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Herreth and family of Bay City were Sunday visitors of Mrs. Elizabeth Herreth. Mrs. Peggy Sappington and son Jackie Lee of Corpus Christi spent last week with her mother, Mrs. Lena McMichiel. She also visited with her sister, Mrs. Joyce Morton and family. Diane Herreth of Bay City spent Saturday and Sunday with her cousin, Miss Stella Ruth Rickaway. Mrs. Henry Day and Stella Ruth Rickaway went to Columbus Wednesday morning with Henry Day, when he was there on business. Construction is well underway on the new home of the C. G. Tobolas. Sunshine and La Verne Fondon were visiting this week-end with the Melvin Smith family. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Rickaway and Stella Ruth went to their first professional baseball game Thursday night, July 23rd, when they saw the Houston Colt .45's defeat the Philadelphia Phillies in a 6-5 game, which lasted 15 innings. Norman Rupert left by airplane from Houston Thursday, September 27th, enroute to New York, where he boarded a plane bound for Copenhagen, Denmark. Mr. Rupert is on an extended visit to Europe, where he is touring Denmark, Sweden, England, Paris in France, Austria, Germany, Libya in North Africa, and Italy. His family expects him to be back home on Thursday, October 24th. Mr. and Mrs. Axel Jensen left Houston on October 1st, enroute to Denmark where they will visit relatives and other countries in Europe, where they will do some sightseeing. They are expected to be away for a month. Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Pesak became grandparents for the first time when their daughter Jeroline Cerny of Bay City gave birth to a baby girl at the Matagorda General Hospital at 2:24 A. M. on Tuesday, October 1. The girl weighed 8 pounds 6 ounces at birth. Mrs. Cerny and Sherry Ann came to stay with the Pesaks on Sunday and will remain with them for about two weeks. H. T. Walters underwent tests at Matagorda General Hospital last week. Sam Richardson of Midfield was taken ill suddenly last Thursday and was taken to the hospital in Bay City after suffering a stroke. Billy Chandler left Wednesday, October 9th, for East Grand Rapids, Minnesota, where he will work as a horse trainer.

Pierce, and Miss Ona Lea Schroeder were among those from Blessing who attended the Palacios-John Foster Dulles bi-district football game in Sweeny Friday night. The Woman's Missionary Union of the First Baptist Church met at the home of Mrs. Donald Glaze on Tuesday, November 19th. The topic for the Royal Service Program, was "Partners for Progress in Japan." Mr. and Mrs. C. R. "Pete" Curtner, Cliff and Pamela, were called to Beeville Friday, Nov. 15, when Mrs. Curtner was informed that her father was critically ill. Mrs. Curtner's father died on Saturday morning, November 16. Our deepest sympathy goes out to the Curtner family in their time of sorrow. Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy Rickaway enjoyed an early Thanksgiving dinner in Midfield Sunday at the home of Mrs. Rickaway's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Fitzgerald, and Geraldine. Mrs. Marjorie Ellis and her son, Johnny, of Austin and Mrs. Barbara Tipton and son of Edna were also in attendance.

D. E. Morton, Henry Day, H. T. Phillips, and Michael Pierce went to Galveston Tuesday, Dec. 10 to donate one pint of blood each to the blood bank, in behalf of Mrs. Lester Morton of Palacios, who was scheduled for open heart surgery. Mrs. Henry R. Day attended a Christmas party for Avon representatives Friday, Dec. 13, at the Service Center in Bay City. Mrs. Poston and Mrs. Curtis Harvey of Palacios also attended the party. Lane Calhoun underwent surgery on Tuesday, Dec. 10, in the hospital in Wharton and now is at home progressing nicely. Newcomers to our community are Mr. and Mrs. David Savage, who moved here a few weeks ago. Mr. and Mrs. Dennie Upham and baby of El Campo were Saturday visitors of Mrs. Lillie Hlozek. Hiram E. Watts was taken to Houston on Sunday to enter the Methodist Hospital. The ladies of the W. M. U. of the First Baptist Church had a Christmas party on Monday, Dec. 16th. Those attending were Stella Phillips, Mrs. W. B. Chandler, Mrs. Donald Glaze, Mrs. Steve Rickaway, Mrs. W. L. Rickaway, Mrs. Glen Ussery, Mrs. E. R. Adams, Jr., Mrs. D. E. Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Harter became the proud parents of a baby daughter born at 2:10 p. m. at Wagner General Hospital in Palacios on Monday. The little miss weighed 9 lbs. 7 ozs. at birth and was named Leah Marie. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Tobola celebrated their fifth year in the cafe business on Tuesday, February 4, by serving free kolaches and coffee to their customers. Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Hurta of El Maton and Mr. and Mrs. George Hejtmanek of Ashby were sponsors of a dance honoring the 7th and 8th grade athletic students of Blessing Elementary School. The dance was held at the Blessing Community House. The Blessing men's basketball team chalked up another win Wednesday night when they defeated a group of boys from Bay City by a score of 98-87. Mr. and Mrs. Henry R. Day and Ed Day spent Saturday and Sunday visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Charles T. Mikus and their three children at their motel and home in Lufkin. Joe Chandler, who is stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana with the Army, was home for the week-end with his wife, Dorothy. Charles Laslie, son of Mrs. Alvena Laslie of Blessing, and Miss Susan Simpson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Simpson of Palacios, were married on Friday, January 31st. A "come and go" shower honoring them was held Tuesday at the home of Alvena Laslie. Mrs. Joe Burgette was hostess. The couple are making their home in Edna, where they are co-owners of the L-B Restaurant. Mr. and Mrs. "Red" Woods have purchased the L. D. Richardson home. Mr. Woods is employed by the Texaco Company. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Kopnicky are the parents of a baby boy born to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rives of Manvel. The baby weighed 7 lbs. 7 1/2 ozs. and was named Don Stanley. Mrs. W. M. Epperson was admitted to Matagorda General Hospital on Feb. 3.

Stopping by for a brief visit with the H. E. Powells on Saturday were Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Miculka of Corpus Christi. The ladies of W. M. U. of the First Baptist Church met at Mrs. D. M. Glenn’s home on Tuesday, February 11th, for a circle meeting. Those present were Mrs. Homer Phillips, Betty Fern Day, Anita Rickaway, Pat Tracy, and Jackie Chandler. Mr. and Mrs. Duke M. Glenn and family went to Galveston Saturday to see Mr. Glenn’s mother, Mrs. Georgia Glenn, who is confined to John Sealy Hospital. Private Joe Chandler of Fort Polk, Louisiana spent the week-end at home visiting his wife, Dorothy, and his parents, Rev. and Mrs. W. B. Chandler. Visiting with the D. M. Glenns on Tuesday were Mr. and Mrs. Archie Earle of Laredo. They moved from Blessing to Laredo almost seven years ago. The Blessing men’s basketball team defeated the Palacios team by a score of 82 to 70 in the Blessing gym last Friday night. Miss D’Ann LaBeff of Markham was crowned basketball sweetheart, and Jerome Hickl of El Maton was crowned basketball beau Tuesday night, February 11, at the East Bernard game in the Tidehaven gymnasium. Frank H. Rickaway became a great grandfather for the 51st time when a 9 lb 2 oz daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Robert T. Davis of Pasadena on February 6. Maternal grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Simpson of Bay City, and Mr. and Mrs. LeBlanc of Sweeny are the paternal grandparents of the baby girl. Miss Nancy Jo Jensen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Axel Jensen of El Maton, began nurse’s training on Monday, February 3, at Hermann Hospital in Houston. She will take a one-year vocational course. H. L. Brown, age 80, of Midfield, passed away at 4:00 a. m. on Tuesday, February 11th, in the Matagorda General Hospital in Bay City. Services were held at the Taylor Brothers Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 12th, with the Rev. Claude Cagle officiating. Interment was in Hawley Cemetery. Pallbearers were Howard Troutman, A. W. Hurta, W. M. Epperson, Horace Troutman, Frank J. Hurta, and Herman Powell. Mrs. Henry Day was a victim of a freak accident in her home on Wednesday. She received an injury to her right eye. The outer layer of the cornea was scraped in the accident.

The Blessing Cub Scout Pack No. 672 held its first pack meeting at the Blessing Community Center on February 27. The meeting was attended by 19 Cubs and their parents. Seventeen Cubs received Bobcat pins. Cubmaster for the pack is Bill Dickinson. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lane Powell and son, Sammy, have moved from the house they have occupied for 4 1/2 years to the old home of Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Powell. The house was recently vacated when the Larry Jensens moved to Cameron where he is employed with the Eastern Seed Company. Miss Ona Lea Schroeder has moved into the house the Powells moved from. The Blessing men's basketball team defeated the Lolita team Thursday night, in the Blessing gym by a score of 133-98. The next night they played a game at Travis gym in Port Lavaca and were defeated by a score of 78-62. Tom Cornelius of Midfield died Friday, Feb. 28 and services were held Sunday at the Wheeler Funeral Home in El Campo. Interment was in the Hawley Cemetery. The Tidehaven High School Band presented their annual concert in conjunction with Public School Week, March 5th, at 8 p. m. in the school auditorium in El Maton. Mrs. Pauline White of Palacios and Mrs. Lena McMichiel went to Columbus Sunday afternoon with Mrs. Elaine Day to attend a practice session for O. E. S. officers at the Texas National Guard Armory. After the practice was over, they accepted an invitation to have cake and coffee, along with the other officers, at the home of Charles and Clara Klein. Mrs. Klein is the Deputy Grand Matron for District No. 4, Section 9, Grand Chapter of Teas, O. E. S. Mr. and Mrs. C. F. Tracey and family were honored with a housewarming in their home on March 1st. Hostesses for the affair were Mrs. W. L. Rickaway, Mrs. A. C. Harter, Mrs. D. M. Glenn, and Mrs. Earl Blue.

Mrs. Wilbur Vaclavick and her two children recently returned from a trip to Florida to visit with her parents, the Ed Palmers. Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Watts are back home after a lengthy stay in Jackson, Mississippi, where Mr. Watts underwent surgery. H. T. Walters was taken to the hospital in Bay City Tuesday afternoon. Pete Hamelink was in Galveston Friday and Saturday attending a Scottish Rites meeting of the Shriners. Mrs. L. C. Johnston underwent surgery in Matagorda General hospital on Thursday, March 12th. Bay City won first place in the Blessing Volunteer Fire Department basketball tournament Tuesday night when they defeated the Port Lavaca team by 20 points. Port Lavaca won the second place trophy and Angleton won the consolation trophy by defeating Blessing, 76-68. Tidehaven won first place in their track meet Saturday with 170 points. Pearland, who were favored to win the meet, was second place winner with 145 points and East Bernard took third place honors with approximately 89 points. Linda Wright of Markham was selected by the track team to be their track queen and D'Ann La Beff and Joyce Johnson of Markham were the runners-up. We wish to welcome to our community all the families working for Panama, Ins., a pipeline company laying a 30" pipeline for Humble and hope they have a pleasant stay while they're here.

Mrs. Joy Rickaway and her three children of Brazoria visited Mrs. Elizabeth Herreth, March 30th. Victor Joe Zemanek and Donald Ray Hlozek were home for the Easter week-end from Texas A&M. Miss Mary Jean Whitley, who works and lives in Killeen, spent the Easter weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Whitley, and sister, Betty Sue and brother, Joe Lee. A baseball team from Blessing will be entered in the Central Gulf Coast League, which will be comprised of 13 teams divided into two groups. Blessing will play their first game Sunday, April 12. Mr. and Mrs. Sammy Chiapetta of Stafford were visitors of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Smith and Barbara on Easter. The Smith's daughter, Louise Smithey of Austin, also visited them on that day. Visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Lane Calhoun and boys on Thursday, March 26th, was Jimmy Calhoun of Richmond. The choir members of the First Baptist Church presented E. R. Adams, Jr. with a brown leather brief case on Thursday night, Mar. 26th, at the church in appreciation of his fine leadership of the choir. We welcome Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Thomas and their four children to our community. Mr. Thomas will be the football coach for the Tidehaven "Tigers" next fall. They have moved into the Fred Rickaway house. Mark Anthony Steffek, son of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Steffek of El Campo, spent last week with is maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Henkes and Mary Ann in El Maton. Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Adams, Jr. and Mark spent Easter in Center, Texas, with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. I. Bridges. Mr. Bridges has just undergone surgery. The Tidehaven High School tennis teams went to district meet in Eagle Lake on April 1st, but all lost out in their first game. Stella Ruth Rickaway and Emilia "Midge" Pesak lost to a couple of girls from Eagle Lake. Jo Lynette Skutca lost her first game in singles to a girl from Louise. David Joe Bartosh and Gene Dukes also lost in their first doubles match. Mrs. Henry R. Day has been chosen to be the chairman for the Cancer Crusade in Blessing. The crusade will take place sometime this month when Mrs. Day receives other materials and gets her workers together.

Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Brown have returned from Grapeland where they attended funeral services for Mr. Brown's aunt, Mrs. Minnie Brown. Frank Gayle has moved from the Live Oak Farm to Sweeny where he is employed as a city utilities manager. The Blessing Dryer and Warehouse is adding a new drying unit to their rice dryer. Joe Zapalac of Midfield is in the hospital in Wharton. Results of the Saturday school board election for the Tidehaven Independent School District were C. P. Hiltpold, Victor Zemanek and write-in Carl Jensen being elected to serve. Those serving on the election board at Blessing were Mrs. L. P. Neuszer, Mrs. A. M. Logan, and Mrs. Pete Hamelink. Everyone is cordially invited to attend revival services now in progress at the First Baptist Church of Blessing. Rev. A. W. McGregor, pastor of the Tulosa Midway Baptist Church of Corpus Christi is the preacher and Kirk Richardson of Bay City is song director. The W. M. U. honored the Senior Class of 1964 of Tidehaven High School with a western-style dinner Thursday at 6:30 p. m. at the First Baptist Church.

U. of the First Baptist Church met on Tuesday to discuss plans for Vacation Bible School. The school here is scheduled for May 25-June 5. Preparation Day will be on Saturday, May 23, at 2 p. m. Mrs. Henry Day, American Cancer Society Crusade chairman for Blessing, wishes to thank the women who devoted their time and energy to work on the cancer drive. They were Mrs. Robert Rickaway, Mrs. H. Mr. and Mrs. Ross Cartwright of Angleton were stranded in Blessing last Friday when their car broke down near here. They told this reporter how nice everyone here had been to them. They were enroute to a Jaycee Convention in Corpus Christi. The annual prom honoring the Seniors of Tidehaven High School was held at the National Hall in El Maton on Friday night, April 24, at 8 p.m. The Juniors had as their theme for the prom "Under the Magnolias." Donna Lynn Glaze, a member of the Junior class, announced the prom king and queen, Leonard Svetlik and Leona Salas. Mrs. Katie Emma Vaclavick of San Antonio spent four or five days in Blessing last week visiting her children, the John L. Sullivans, the Wilbur Vaclavicks and the Jim Tobolas. Mrs. John Ackerman is home after a 12-day stay in the Nightingale Hospital in El Campo. Mrs. Steve Neuman of Midfield underwent major surgery in John Sealy Hospital in Galveston on Friday, May 1st. Miss Mary Whorton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Whorton of Francitas, has achieved the honor of being the Salutatorian of the 1964 graduating class of Industrial High School. There are fifty members of the class. The Tidehaven High School Band presented their last concert of the year Tuesday night, May 12th in the school auditorium. The Senior band members were recognized. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Herrin and Scott and Miss Patsy Swinky of Houston arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Hurta in El Maton Monday. The Herrins are on a two-week vacation and will be visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Forrest Green, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Johs, Jr. and son Joe, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Knebel of Blessing, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Vavra of El Maton, and Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Hurta of Bay City this week. Miss Suzanne Saha, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Emil Saha of El Maton has been named Valedictorian of the 1964 graduating class of Tidehaven High School. Her four-year average was 94.98. The Bay City Aztecs defeated Blessing Sunday, May 31st 7-5 on the local diamond. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Glenn Sliva became parents of their second child Friday, May 29th. The baby boy was born in the Matagorda General Hospital and was welcomed into the family by his sister, Leslie. Mr. and Mrs. Ted Frisch of Vancouver, Washington visited the Murel Dillards in Deutschburg. They also visited Mr. and Mrs. Henry Day, Ed Day, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Cavallin and Mrs. Anna Gerhard. Miss Louise Jacobs of Blessing and Bob Guttenburger of Palacios were married in St. John's Episcopal Church in Palacios at 7:30 p. m. Saturday, May 30th. The Guttenburgers will live in San Marcos this summer, where they both will attend school. They plan to live in Palacios this fall. The Intermediate Class and their teachers, Joyce Morton, Elaine Day, and Minnie Powell wish to thank Mrs. F. E. Matthes for her guidance in showing how to arrange real, artificial, and dried flower arrangements during Bible School creative activity period; Mrs. Ray Lofton, who demonstrated to the class how to make Danish pastries, and Mrs. H. L. Powell, who gave the girls some hints in using cosmetics. Miss Mary Whorton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Whorton of Francitas, and Robert Dillard, son of Mr. and Mrs. Murel Dillard of Deutschburg were married in a double ring ceremony at the Francitas Baptist Church at 6 p. m. Wednesday, June 3rd. Rev. W. W. Harvey of Bloomington officiated at the marriage. The brother of the groom, Larry Dillard, served as best man. The maid of honor was Miss Bill Rae McKeron. Mrs. Henry Day played the piano selections for the wedding. A reception for the families was held at the bride's home following the ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Tobola and Martin were in Galveston last Saturday, when Mrs. Tobola saw her doctor for a release. Ed Day has been released by his doctor to return to work. The community welcomes Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Moore and family, who moved here from Palacios where they lived for a short time. Mrs. Fred Day is home from the hospital in Ganado, where she had been confined. Mrs. Frances Witham of Houston spent the weekend with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Powell, and her son Walter. Mrs. Witham had an accident in her new car on her return to Houston. Louis Alvin Hurta, age 54, of Midfield died on Monday, Sept. 14. Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Wednesday at the Czech Brethren Church in Blessing with Rev. John J. Bravenee holding the service. Burial was in Hawley Cemetery. Mrs. A. E. Schulte has been a patient in the Bay City hospital. Mrs. A. J. Braden has been hospitalized in the Nightingale Hospital in El Campo. Mr. and Mrs. A. R Matthes, Mrs. Dick Powell, Mrs. Glen Ussery, and Mrs. Arthur Foster have visited with Abner Ussery in the Hermann Hospital recently.

Baccalaureate services for the Tidehaven High School Seniors of 1965 were held in the gymnasium of the school on Sunday, May 23rd at 7:30 P. M. The processional, "General Grant's Grand March" was played by Mrs. Elaine Day. The invocation was given by Rev. Brik Moeller of the Danevang Lutheran Church. Then the members of the Senior Class sang "America, the Beautiful" accompanied by Nancy Carol Hurta. A piano selection, "How Great Thou Art" was then rendered by Donna Lynn Glaze. The sermon was delivered by Rev. Edward Bily of the St. Peter's Catholic Church in Blessing. The hymn, "He" was then sung by the members of the graduating class. The service closed with Rev. R. E. Black, pastor of the Wadsworth Baptist Church, giving the benediction. Rev. H. C. Wells, Jr. of Huntsville filled the pulpit Sunday morning at The Baptist Church. Services were not held Sunday night, so that those who wished to do so could attend the baccalaureate services at Tidehaven High School. Four members of the church were in the 1865 graduating class. Mr. and Mrs. Austin Savage of Bay City were in Blessing on Thursday, May 20th, visiting with Mrs. Savage's sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Herreth. W. H. Smith? was admitted to Matagorda General Hospital on Saturday, May 22nd. We wish him a speedy and complete recovery. On Saturday, May 22nd, Rev. and Mrs. W. B. Chandler and Joe moved from the First Baptist Church parsonage into their own home, which they just finished building. Rev. Chandler resigned the pastorate of the church on May 1st.

The First Baptist Church of Blessing, will begin a 14-day Revival, Sunday, September 26 - October 10. The church's Pastor, Rev. H. C. Wells, will be the Revival preacher, and C. W. Richardson of Blessing, will lead the singing, for the Revival. Services will begin each night at 7:30 p. m. The nursery will be open for all services. Every one is invited. The W. M. U. Ladies of the First Baptist Church of Blessing presented a State Mission Program at the Wednesday night Prayer Meeting of the church. Mrs. H. T. Phillips is the Prayer chairman of the W. M. U. The W. M. U. concluded their Week of Prayer for State Missions Friday morning, by gathering up clothes for the New Orleans storm victims. Happy Birthday greetings to Frank H. Rickaway who was 88 years old on September 20, 1965. His children and grandchildren honored him with a dinner at his home on Sunday, Sept. 19th. Those from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. Aubrey E. Eads of Freeport; Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Walker and Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Stephens and children of Aldine; Mrs. Delmar Pettigrew and children of Old Ocean; Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Simpson of Bay City; Mr. and Mrs. Bob Davis and daughter and Mr. and Mrs. Daryl Gilbreath of Pasadena. Miss Evelyn Balusek, daughter of Mrs. Emil Balusek of El Maton because the bride of Frank Michalek, son of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Michalek of Palacios, Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock September 18, at the St. Peter's Catholic Church in Blessing. Lee Hall Pierce, Frederick Pierce, Gene Dukes and his mother, Mrs. Freda Meyers, attended teh Houston Oilers football game in Houston Sunday afternoon. After the game, Mrs. Meyers left by plane for her home in West Palm Beach, Fla. After an enjoyable week with her son, Gene, and her sister, Mrs. Victor Tobola and family.

The old Midfield school house was the scene of a pink and blue shower Monday night at 7:30 p. m. The honoree was Mrs. Edwin Hurta, Jr. of Edna. Mrs. Hurta received many nice gifts for her expected baby. Twenty-six ladies and six children were present. Refreshments served by the hostesses were cupcakes, punch, and mints. Hostesses were Betty Lou Rickaway, Evelyn Richardson, Edith Hurta, Mrs. W. R. Roberts, Ann Sliva, Geraldine Fitzgerald, Albina Bosak, Dorothy Sedlacek, LaVerne Hurta, and "Tiny" Fitzgerald. Luncheon guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Day on Monday was Mr. Bobby Dillard of the Deutschburg community. On Friday, Mr. Lawrence Bartosh and Mrs. Edward Bartosh went to the Houston International Airport to meet Mr. Edward Bartosh, who was arriving from Westwego, Louisiana. The Edward Bartosh family then visited with Mrs. Mary Bartosh and children until Sunday, when they departed for home. Saturday night visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Frank E. Rickaway and Randy were Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Spring and the family of Lolita. David Olgin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Olgin, underwent an appendectomy at Nightingale Hospital in El Campo on Monday. He is doing well and probably will come home over the week-end. He wished to thank all those who have sent him get-well cards and given him gifts. Mrs. Inez Baker was admitted to Matagorda General Hospital on Wednesday and will remain there for a few days. We wish her a speedy recovery. F. H. Rickaway was the honoree at a birthday dinner held in his home on Sunday. Mr. Rickaway marked his 88th birthday the next day. Out-of-town relatives who enjoyed the dinner were Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Mr. and Mrs. John Booth were in Beaumont from Monday through Wednesday visiting with Mr. Booth's relatives. Lee Hall Pierce, Frederick Pierce, Gene Dukes and his mother Mrs. Freda Meyers all went to Houston Sunday to see the Houston Oilers-Boston Patriots football game at Rice Stadium. After the game, Mr. Pierce took Mrs. Meyers to the airport to catch a plane for West Palm Beach, Florida, where she makes her home. Mrs. Meyers had spent the past week visiting with her son, Gene Dukes. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Tobola and Martin, and her mother, Mrs. Inez Baker. Mr. and Mrs. Ed A. Hlozek were honored with a "housewarming" in their new home Tuesday beginning at 7:30 p. m. Approximately thirty-five families came during the evening to view their lovely home and to present the couple with some beautiful gifts for their new home. Refreshments of assorted sandwiches, pickles, cake, cookies, and punch were served throughout the evening. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Tobola went to Schulenburg Sunday to get Mr. and Mrs. Frank Zacek and bring them back here. Mrs. Katie Emma Vaclavick of La Coste visited Thursday afternoon and Friday with relatives here. Pierce and Mrs. Lee Hall. Mrs. Roy Trant and Donna of El Campo visited in the A. E. Schulte home Tuesday. Mrs. Trant is better known to friends as Velma Rhodes, who taught school here in 1937. Mrs. Elizabeth Herreth ate Christmas dinner in Bay City with her father, Mr. Alex Gavender, and her sister, Mrs. Sue Rudin. Mrs. A. M. Logan and Mrs. A. E. Schulte visited Mrs. Mary Bunk in Bay City, Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Smith and family of Alice spent a few days last week with Mr. and Mrs. Henry Smith and family. Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Bartell and family from Freeport also ate Christmas dinner with the Smith family. Mr. and Mrs. W. M. A district track meet was held Saturday at the Tidehaven High School track field, with Weimar winning first place. Mrs. Sue Rudin of Bay City visited Thursday with Mrs. E. Mr. and Mrs. Alex Gavender, Jr. of Wadsworth visited Tuesday morning with Mrs. E. Herreth and Alex Gavender, Sr. Mrs. Roger Long of Atlanta left Wednesday after staying almost two weeks with her sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Adams. Mrs. Bob Pesak is recuperating after surgery at the Nightingale Hospital in El Campo. Mary Lou Smith, Judy Crabb, Peggy McMichiel, and Lee Eva Smith went on a tour of the University of Corpus Christi, Friday and Saturday.
