Mrs. Ruby King, Mrs. Della Braden, Mrs. Ethel Bluhm, Mrs. Lena Duller and Miss Janice Harris went to Houston, Monday evening to hear the Houston Symphony. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Thorp and little Bobbie Thorp, spent the week end in Gatesville, Texas, visiting Mr. Thorp, Sr., Robert's father. Mrs. Johnnie Ley of Victoria, came home to nurse her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Murphy, while they are sick from flu. Mrs. Fred B. Thurber of Providence, R. I. Mrs. William G. Thurber and son, Tracy Thurber of Galveston, Texas, Col. M. T. Flanagan of Longview, Texas and Mrs. Bernard J. Flanagan of San Antonio, Texas, have been visiting their sister, Mrs. Wyatt O. Selkirk and Col. Wyatt O. Selkirk. Mrs. Fred Thurber leaves Thursday for her home in Rhode Island. Rev. A. Weber of Nada, Texas, was among old friends here, Monday. Col. and Mrs. Wyatt O. Selkirk and Mrs. Fred B. Thurber, spent Wednesday in Galveston, visiting Mrs. William G. Thurber. Mrs. Della Braden, Mrs. Lena Duller, Mrs. Ruby King, Mrs. Wayne Hallmark and Miss Blake Terry attended the Eastern Star meeting in Bay City, Tuesday night. Russell Matthes went to Houston last Friday night. Attended the Merit Badge show on Saturday also had some dental work done. Sunday night Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Matthes and family, Mrs. Della Braden, Mr. and Mrs. Albert White and Charles went to Bay City to hear the Bay City Choral Club. Edward and Russell Matthes, attended the basketball supper at Collegeport Monday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sutton. Mr. Taylor Wootton is visiting his wife and her family, this week. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Thorp and Bobbie stopped by Brenham last Sunday to visit Mr. and Mrs. Paul Braden. Mr. Joe Lucas of El Maton was a visitor here Tuesday.

Friends will be glad to hear that Mrs. Della Braden, who has been ill, is greatly improved and will soon be able to be out. Mrs. A. E. Schulte spent a few days in Clemville with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Cowger. Sergeant Curl of Bay City was a business visitor here Monday. Mrs. Harry Cowger and son and Miss Dorothy Suladie of Clemville spent Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Schulte. Bert Logan of Sweeny visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Logan, Friday night. Miss Edna Matthes of Dallas and Miss Clara Matthes of Dallas and Mr. and Mrs. Homer Matthes of San Antonio spent Sunday with Mrs. B. C. Matthes and Mr. Frank Matthes and family. Hal Lucas of Houston is visiting Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Lucas. Earl Bump of Palacios spent the week end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Bump. Mr. and Mrs. Barnes, Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Matthes were dinner guest of Mrs. Della Braden Sunday. Russell and Freddie Matthes attended Sunday School in Bay City last Sunday. From there they went on a picnic at Churchill Bridge on the Bernard River. Mrs. Paul Braden of Beaumont and Mrs. Hugh Thompson and children of El Campo spent several days last week with Mrs. A. O. Yeager. Rev. Gillespie of Palacios conducted services at the Presbyterian Church last Sunday night. Miss Kathryne Vaclavick has gone for a week’s visit with relatives in Freeport. Mrs. Braden and Mrs. Barnes spent Friday afternoon in Bay City. Charles Whitz and Freddie Matthes attended the opening of the swimming pool in Bay City Mrs. Lena Duller and her father, Mr. Seth Corse, left Sunday for San Antonio where they will visit Mrs. Duller’s sister, Mrs. Putnam and Col. Putnam. A. B. Pierce, Jr., spent the weekend with home folks. Mrs. William G. Thurber and Mrs. W. O. Selkirk, Wyatt O. Selkirk and Tracy Thurber, spent Saturday morning in Bay City. Sgt. James Rickaway of San Antonio spent the weekend at home. Mr. W. C. McMahan of Houston was in our town on Tuesday. Ed Orsak and Georgia Marie Marek went to Caldwell last week for a visit. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hall, of Palacios, who visited their daughter, Mrs. Newton, in Bay City, Saturday, also visited a daughter in Midfield and friends in Blessing on their way home. John Lee, 89 years old, resident of Blessing since 1907, was found dead in his room Saturday. He was a partial invalid, having lost a leg some 25 years ago in an accident. He had no known survivors. Teachers from neighboring schools held a meeting in the Blessing High School Monday night with a program and reception afterwards. Mrs. Terry and Mrs. A. J. Blessing Red Birds defeated Crescent Baseball team at Louise Tuesday night 34-21. Hally Anderson was high point man for the Red Birds, making 11 points Lt. T. W. Rhodes and family are visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Rhodes. Lt. Rhodes has transferred from a Florida station to California. Miss Inez Duffy was visiting in Bay City Tuesday. Mrs. Clyde Quinn was honored with a miscellaneous shower Tuesday night at the community house. The affair was a complete surprise for the honoree as it was previously announced as just a party and everyone invited. The attendants were both old and young and a large number enjoyed the hospitality. Mrs. Quinn, who was the former Evelyn Faye Daniels, is not employed as clerk in the post office. Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Terry and Joyce of Palacios were visitors in the Rhodes home Saturday afternoon. Mrs. Harley Snider and children, Barbara Gail and Johnnie, were guests of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. R. Dobson, Saturday. Ben Guynes moved to Palacios Monday where he will work at the barber's trade. Ben has just completed his course in Houston. Mrs. L. C. Cornelius is visiting her son, George, in New Orleans, La., this week. She is accompanied by Mrs. W. O. Selkirk. Anthony Lezak, age 5 years 11 months and 14 days, passed away at the family home in El Maton, Sunday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Lezak, two sisters, Delois and Evelyn, four brothers, Edwin, Marion, Jerry and Bobby Dean Lezak of El Maton. Funeral services were held from the Blessing Catholic Church Tuesday at 9:30 a. m. Mrs. Katie Engles and daughter Katie Roy, of Houston, were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Joe B. Nicholson. Mr. and Mrs. David King of Houston spent Saturday morning visiting Mr. and Mrs. Pete Hamelink. Master “Butch” Butler has returned home after spending two weeks with his grandparents in Conroe. Mr. and Mrs. Barnett Bump and children of Houston are spending their vacation with Mr. and Mrs. B. C. Bump. Powell and Frances made a trip to Bay City Thursday afternoon. Mrs. C. D. Salley and children and Miss Mary Manley spent Saturday night with Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Cox in Iago. Miss Esther Walker and Mrs. M. D. Walker of Bay City visited at the Blessing Hotel Sunday. Mrs. Lee Pierce and Mrs. Melvin Lee were shoppers in Houston last week. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rickaway spent Sunday with Mr. Rickaways’s sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. D. Mashack in Hallettsville. Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Johnston of Houston spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Johnston. The Community Church in Blessing will present a Christmas program Saturday night, December 18th at the church, starting at 7:30 o’clock. Mr. Abner Ussery Jr. of Houston spent the week-end with his parents. Abner Jr. attends Rice Institute. Mr. John Logan visited in Temple, Texas Sunday. Quite a large number of Blessing, El Maton and Midfield people attended the Boy Scout Supper at Wesley Hall in Bay City Friday night.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Meadows of El Paso are visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Pete Hamelink. Those who attended the Falfurrias-New Braunfels Ball game Friday were: Earl Adams, Sr., John Logan and Johnnie Horenschie. Mrs. H. E. Powell, Mrs. B. C. Bumb [Bump?] and Frances made a trip to Bay City Monday. Mr. “Buster” Schnurpel made a business trip to Houston Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Ben Brod and Anell of Fort Worth are visiting in the Foster home. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Cowger and children of Clemville were visiting the Schultes Monday night. Sunday dinner gusts of Mrs. Ruth Williams were Mrs. M. D. Walker, Miss Esther Walker and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Williams and Sherry all of Bay City. Mr. Abner Ussery Jr. of Rice Institute is at home with his parents for the holidays. Mr. and Mrs. “Shorty” Mills and boys of Alvin visited at the Blessing Hotel Sunday. Sgt. and Mrs. Andrew Barber of Orlando, Florida are visiting her parents Mr. and Mrs. Robert Rickaway.
