Blessing had a banquet the other night, and as is usual with Blessing, the banquet was a decided success. It was under the auspices of the Blessing Library Association, and that again is sufficient guarantee that it was par excellence--handled by the ladies. The library associations were invited from all the adjacent towns, and most of them were represented. There were three long tables spread in Hotel Blessing dining rooms, and one hundred guests were seated. Mrs. Falls, ex-president of the State Federated Woman's Clubs, was the guest of honor, and Miss Woodruff of Blessing acted as toastmaster. Mr. C. E. Duller spoke for the Blessing Library Association and Hon. Thos. H. Lewis for the Bay City Association. Mrs. H. N. Sholl responded when Collegeport, that live and literary town was called, and Mrs. Phelps spoke eloquently for Francitas. Palacios, and other towns were represented in the toasts, but the name of the speakers could not be obtained. But Mrs. J. Nye Ryman of historic Matagorda made the speech of the evening, and her address was highly complimented by those who heard her, and we were told we ought to have been there to have heard that and others. Blessing is one of the progressive towns of the county, and when they start out to do a thing, whether it is farmers institute, fair or banquet, it promptly becomes one of the worthy and successful things of the county. Among those accompanying Judge Lewis from Bay City were Mrs. E. L. Perry and her guest Mrs. Parker, Mrs. F. S. Robbins, Mrs. Judge Jones, Mrs. H. W. Ninde, Mr. C. W. Foulkes and Mr. J. Blackman.

The High School girls netted a very neat sum Friday night from their play. Miss Alice Campbell and Miss Mamie Truitt of Palacios were Blessing visitors Friday. Mrs. H. B. Farwell is up from Palacios visiting friends. Mrs. W. Q. Selkirk went to Bay City Saturday for a short visit. Misses Alice and Gertrude Duller spent Saturday and Sunday in Blessing. Mrs. T. C. Mrs. C. A. Lucas returned Thursday from a visit of several months to relatives and friends in the north. Miss Fulcrod, trained nurse of Houston, is in Blessing on a professional visit. Mrs. John Roach of Houston is visiting the family of Jas. H. Roach. Mrs. Paul Walworth has returned from Robstown where he has been visiting for the past month. D. A. Wheeler and son, Waldo, were Victoria visitors last week. Clifford Shurtz, who has been attending the A. and M. College in Oklahoma, is at home for a brief visit. Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Kuykendall left last week for Victoria where they will spend the winter months at the Denver. J. D. Moore and Geo. Southwell of Bay City were in Blessing Monday on a business visit. There will be a rummage sale at the Cozy theatre Saturday, proceeds to be used for the purchase of yarn to be used for knitted articles for the army and navy.

BLESSING, Texas, Oct. 10.--Mr. A. B. Pierce has installed a Bur Extractor at his gin in Blessing to remove the burs from pulled cotton. This will be a great deal of help to the farmers as the late cotton can be pulled more cheaply than it can be picked. Mr. J. C. White has purchased a counter refrigerator for use in his meat market. This is certainly an improvement and adds greatly to the appearance of his shop. It will enable Mr. White to keep a supply of cured meats. The power meat grinder is another improvement in Mr. White's market and a wonderful labor saver. Mrs. Chas. E. Duller entertained the school teachers and Mary Deane Yeager on Wednesday night with dinner and 2 tables of bridge. Clarence Lee is working in Billie's Garage. Mrs. A. B. Pierce went to Bay City on Tuesday. Mrs. Geo. T. Braden is spending the week with her daughter, Mrs. A. R. Matthes. Mr. J. O. Murphy has purchased a refrigerator show case for use in his grocery store. Miss Grace Walker and Margaret Lois Sanford went to Bay City Saturday on the bus. Mr. C. Pickel has been having a new road on his house this week. Mr. C. B. Bump is doing the work. Mr. C. H. Dobbs, pastor of the El Campo Presbyterian Church, came down to Blessing on last Sunday night and preached a very fine sermon. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Lindner motored to San Antonio Sunday night to see the airplanes. Mr. Lindner made a business trip to Houston on his return Tuesday. The Baseball fans have been enjoying the big games this season at Billie's Garage. Billie has a fine set that he keeps in good working order with no little trouble and expense. Mrs. C. W White returned Saturday from Kansas City, where she has been for the past three weeks attending a reunion of her family, all of whom were present except one brother. Mrs. Russell Jones, of Houston arrived on the night train Wednesday for a short stay with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. D. O'Bannon and her little daughter, Autherine, who goes to school in Blessing. Mr. and Mrs. F. R. Matthes, Howard, of Ganado; Miss Clara Matthes, of Galveston; Miss Edna Matthes, of Houston; Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Braden and Paul Braden were dinner guests of the A. R. Matthes family Sunday. Mr. J. H. Logan and his daughter, Mrs. W. A. Sanford, were called to Bay City Monday to the bedside of Mr. Logan's father, who is 96 years old. LATER: Mr. Logan died Tuesday night and funeral was held in Bay City Wednesday afternoon, with Masonic honors. He was a member of the Blessing Masonic Lodge.

Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Dyer spent Sunday in Bay City with her parents. Miss Beck, of Francitas and Palacios, was in town Monday between trains. Miss Susie Hoffman is spending the week in Houston, combining business with pleasure. Oscar Walker, who is now living in Collegeport, spent Sunday here with relatives and friends. Frank Hoffman is home again after spending several months in the north, visiting old friends. Mr. Cheek is a Houston visitor this week on a business trip and Mr. Evans has charge of the barber shop during his absence.

Mr. Taylor Evans is at Hubbard on business. Mrs. Fassett is visiting relatives in Houston for two weeks. Mr. Coon, our meat market man, spent Wednesday in Palacios. Mr. Rhuel, now of Kansas City, is here for a while looking after his interests. Herman Eikenberg and family are home again after a few months at Collegeport. Oscar Walker is home from Collegeport visiting home folks and friends for a few days. Bro. Eddins was up Sunday from Palacios and preached at the Presbyterian Church morning and evening. Our new preacher of the M. E. Church will arrive in a few days. Rev. Stanly Haver and Rev. Clendenin will go to Stockdale with our best wishes for a happy and prosperous work in the new field. Mrs. James Minick entertains Thursday in honor of her sister Mrs. McLeiven who soon leaves the Sunny South for Portland, Oregon. She will be greatly missed among her many friends who wish her happiness wherever she may go.

Bailey, who has been ill for the past week, is able to be up again. Mr. Perry Smith is in Bishop where he will fill temporarily the position as Depot agent. Mrs. R. Borron of Bishop will take the place of Mr. Smith at the depot, until he returns. Miss Ollie Lohnes, who has been visiting her mother in Ness City, Kansas, is home again. Mr. F. J. Eoff of Dallas and Mr. G. N. Reid of Bay City spent Friday and Friday night in town. Mrs. J. E. Barlow and children of Crescent V Ranch are spending the week with Mrs. J. E. Millard. Mrs. A. B. Pierce has returned to Blessing, but Hall Edward will not be able to come home until next week. Quite a number of people took advantage of the holiday on the eleventh, and spent it very pleasantly in Bay City. Our basket ball girls very neatly put one over Francitas so neatly in fact we did not feel a bit badly about Matagorda putting one over our boys. Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Phillips spent Saturday in Bay City, where Mr. Phillips was auctioneer at the sale of the numerous fine blooded cows "The Boys" had donated to them.

Quite a number of people from Blessing attended the funeral of Joseph Pybus in Palacios Tuesday. Word was received here Tuesday of the death of F. H. Coon in Floresville. Mr. Coon just recently moved to Floresville from Blessing for his health.

Miss Pearl Houston spent the week end in Bay City. Miss Leta Bailey spent the week end in Palacios. A. J. Harty of Bay City was in Blessing Thursday. Mrs. R. E. and F. Insall of Bay City were in town Thursday. Charles Cabiniss came from Markham on a business Thursday. Miss Mayme Burkett was hostess to a 42 party Wednesday night. Mr. Ray Phillips has returned from a week’s visit to north Texas. Mr. A. F. Foisey is at his farm in Oklahoma, and will be there until after Christmas. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Williams and Mr. J. E. Coleman and Virginia Fowler were in Palacios Wednesday night. Mrs. E. W. Rogers of Colton, California, who has been visiting her mother, Mrs. C. Pickel for a month, left for home Thursday.
