Mona Sue Brown

May 11, 1960 – April 4, 2007

Louisiana—May 11, 1960, a beautiful pearl was born in to this world to the late Audry and Susie Jackson in New Orleans. She confessed her life to Christ at an early age. Mona was raised in Gonzales, La. She attended East Ascension Senior High and continued her education at Southeastern University. She was a very dedicated and loyal employee at Randall’s Grocery Store.

She was united in holy matrimony on March 3, 1984, to Mr. Alvin Brown, and to this union, three sons were born: Chasse, Justin and Brandon Brown, all of Houston.

She is survived by one step-daughter, Jeanine (Rodney) Williams of Houston; three sisters, Ritta West of Oakland, Calif., Vanessa (Curtis) Parms and Laurie Hendricks of Gonzales, La.; father-in-law, the Rev. Cleophus (Floyce) Brown of Bay City; three sisters-in-law, Linda Turk of Austin, Paula Brown and Adrienne (Ron) Price of Bay City; three brothers-in-law, Tim (LaVern) Brown of Bay City, Cleophus (Ethel) Brown Jr. of Lake Jackson, and Gerald Brown of Bay City; three aunts, Evangeline Martin, Ozell Scott, and Elizabeth (Atwood) Williams; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and two very special friends, Kathline Stull and Tora Tholl.

Funeral services will be 2 p. m. Saturday, April 7, 2007 at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Bay City. Burial will follow at Berean Cemetery.

Viewing will be at the church.

Funeral service for Roosevelt "Buddy" Green, Sr. , 100, of Bay City will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Greater Mt. Zion Church, 6437 FM 521, Brazoria, Texas 77422 where Elder Roland K. Hendricks is pastor and Rev. Q. C. Wallace will be the officiator. Burial will follow at Berean Baptist Church Cemetery, 172 Powell Rd, Cedar Lane, Texas.

Visitation will be on Friday, January 26, 2018 from 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM at E. Viola and Son Funeral Home, 205 N Broad Street, West Columbia, Texas 77486.

Roosevelt was born on February 24, 1917 on Buckner's Prairie in Matagorda County to Tom Green and Hattie (Washington) Green and passed on Tuesday, January 23, 2018 surrounded by his loving family.

"Buddy" was a fun loving and hardworking gentleman. He enjoyed farming and ranching. His generosity to the community is well renowned. Being the hard worker that he was he was employed in many faucets. He worked on the Waterfront as well as US Contractors and Hawkinsville Grocery Store. His kind gentle spirit will always be remembered by all who knew and loved him. He will be missed.

Preceding "Buddy" in death are his parents, one son, Roosevelt Green, Jr.; three daughters, Mary Bryant, Carol Ann Green and baby Green (still birth); four brothers, Samuel, Spencer, Nehemiah and Clarence Green; previous wife, Mary Brown.

Left with cherished memories are three sons, Ervin (Gwen) Green of Detroit, MI.; Clarence (Casandre) Green of Clute; Robert (Carol) Green of Houston; seven daughters, Vernia Green of Detroit MI.; Dinah Murphy of Houston; Evelyn (Robert) Steptoe of Houston; Brenda Raymond of Lake Jackson; Alnita Brown of Houston; Flora Green (Enes Gigic) of Freeport; Katie (Lee) Sampson of Richmond; mother of his children, Carrie Woodard Green of Cedar Lane; twenty-eight grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren; two brothers, David (Josephine) Green, Sr., of Cedar Lane and Murray Green, Sr. of Houston; one sister, Elizabeth Dickie of Houston as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Mary Lue Hawkins

Houston—Mary Lue Richardson Hawkins transitioned from this life on Monday, June 18, 2007, in Houston, after 94 years of life. She was born Feb. 13, 1913, on Buckner’s Prairie, Cedar Lane, the fourth (of six) child of Theophilus and Emma Richardson. Both of her parents and all of her siblings preceded her in death.

She was joined in marriage to Green Hawkins. They raised three girls and one boy: Willie Dorotherine Taylor, Symolia Lois Hawkins Harris, Elbert Lewis Hawkins, Greenevelyne Christina Hawkins.

She was a faithful member of First Berean Church and served in various positions until her death no longer permitted it.

Visitation will be 6 – 8 p. m. on Friday at Green’s Mortuary, 2702 Avenue C., Bay City.

Funeral services will be at 2 p. m. on Saturday at First Berean Church, the Rev. G. L. Franklin officiating.

Burial will be at First Berean Church Cemetery.

Lawrence Moore Jr.

Bay City--Lawrence Moore Jr., 42, of Bay City, died Thursday, April 20, 2006.

He was born Oct. 6, 1963, in Bay City, to Lawrence Sr. and Mary Moore of Bay City. He attended school in Van Vleck.

Survivors: sisters, Earlene Best and Ellener Best, both of Bay City; and brother, Billy "Pete' Moore, of Bay City.

Visitation will be noon to 8 p. m. Friday in the Green's Mortuary chapel.

Services will be 11 a. m. Saturday at First Berean Baptist Church in Live Oak Community, the Rev. K. Bree officiating.

Johnnie W. Sidney, Sr.
March 28, 1930 ~ January 12, 2018 

Johnnie Wilbert Sidney, Sr. was born on March 28, 1930 in Cedar Lane, Matagorda County, TX to the late Alfred Sidney and Esther Jones.  He was the eldest of three children and grew up in the Cedar Lane community.  Johnnie accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at an early age.  On February 17, 1951, Mr. Johnnie Wilbert Sidney united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Miss Mary Jane Lewis and to this union 11 children were born: Dian, Johnnie, Larry, Johnnie, Jr., Cheryl, Wanda, Teresa, Donald, Karl, Karen and Sharon Sidney. 
 
Johnnie was a Corporal in the United States Army, serving in Greenland during the Korean Conflict.  He was the epitome of someone with a servant’s heart.  He loved his family, community, and church but most of all, his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

He was a loving husband, father, son, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, cousin, counselor, confidante, and friend.  His genuine warm smile as well as his wisdom and strength will be sorely missed by all who knew him.  His transition from this life to life eternal came on Friday evening, January 12, 2018, in Houston, Texas at 87 years of age.  Loving memories will be cherished by six daughters, Dian Mills of Bay City, TX; Cheryl Rutherford (Melvin) of Bay City, TX; Wanda Pointer (Russell) of Van Vleck, TX; Teresa Sidney of Bay City, TX; Karen Francies (Alvin) of Fresno, TX and Sharon Sidney of Bay City, TX; four sons, Larry Sidney of Bay City, TX; Johnnie Sidney, Jr. (LaTanya) of Banning, CA; Donald Sidney of Bay City, TX; and Karl Sidney of San Antonio, TX.  He will forever be in the hearts of his family, including four sisters-in-law, Irma Jean Sidney of Van Vleck, TX; Hazel Johnson (Simon) of Bay City, TX; Frances Lewis of Bay City, TX; Bessie Lewis of Pearland, TX; and Doris K. Lewis of Haynesville, LA; brother-in-law, Edgar “Dick” Lewis of San Diego, CA; fifteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; grand godson; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends along with countless others whom were blessed to have known him.  Johnnie was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mary Jane Sidney; son, Johnnie Sidney; mother, Esther Jones Boston; stepfather, E.J. Boston; father, Albert Sidney; brother, Leroy Sidney; sister, Gertie C. Petteway Edwards; and son-in-law, James T. Mills.

Henry Woodard

Cedar Lane--Funeral Services for Henry Woodard will be 2 p. m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007 at First Baptist Church of Brazoria, with the Rev. K. W. Bree officiating. Viewing will be from 3 - 5:30 p. m. Friday, Aug 24, 2007 at Green's Mortuary Chapel in Bay City and 6 - 8 p. m. at First Berean Baptist Church in Cedar Lane. Burial will be at First Berean Cemetery in Cedar Lane.

Henry Woodard Jr. was born on March 24, 1931 to the late Harrison Woodard and Hattie Law. He grew up in Cedar Lake. He attended Jerusalem Community School and George Washington Carver High School, graduating with the Class of 1950. He served in the United States Army from 1951 - 1953.

Henry accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of the late Rev. H. T. Smith. Later he became a member of The First Berean Missionary Baptist Church where he was active in the church choir and the men's choir until his death.

On February 4, 1952, he married Lueretta Austin. To this union 10 children were born. He enjoyed life to the fullest and was loved by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughters, Mary Woodard and Anna Lisa Woodard; stepfather, Johnnie Marshall; brothers, Roosevelt Woodard and Ira Woodard; sisters, Anna Higgins and Sophie Lewis; stepsisters, Lurisha Fletcher, Pinkie Cooper and Charity Johnson; stepbrother, George Marshal; and grandchildren, DeWadrick Woodard and Quincy Lunford.

Henry leaves eight children to cherish his loving memories, Paul Edwards (Henry), Annie Lunford, Janice McGregor (Kenneth), Rhonda Woodard, Henry A. Woodard Jr., Theoplis Woodard, Gary Woodard (Terra) and Glendale Woodard (Elsa). He also leaves 22 grandchildren: 29 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Bertha Woodard, Wilma Carrell (James) and Diane Austin; brothers-in-law, Perry Higgins Sr., Thomas Hawkins, Clyde Austin (JoAnne), Roosevelt Austin (Mary), and Robert Austin (Grace); a special nephew, Jessie Austin (Rosie); a goddaughter, Mary Moreno; and a special friend, Fred Simmons, Henry will also by missed by a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and relatives.

Active pallbearers are Jessie Austin, Mike Edison, Sedrick Hanks, John Lewis, Darrell Woodard, Herman Edison, Toddrick Graves, Perry Higgins Jr., Mack Lewis, Jr., and Harrison Woodard. Honorary pallbearers are Henry A. Woodard Jr., Gary Woodard; brothers-in-law, Theoplis Woodard, Glendale Woodard; and grandsons.
