The time was ascertained by the victim's watch which was crushed with the hands pointing to the stated hour. The killing took place about 3 1/2 miles west of Bay City on Highway 35. Charles Murphree was a longtime resident of Markham, a member of the American Legion, and at present employed by the W. P. A., it has been reported. In speaking of the seriousness of this affair, the Sheriff's department stated, "This is a very serious offense, and a crime punishable by the extreme penalty.
