George Wayne Anderson, 74, of Markham passed away August 15, 2017. He was born January 8, 1943 in Hemphill, TX to the late Johnny Lindell Anderson and Allie Della Travis Anderson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Kathryn Elaine Anderson. Survivors include sons Greg Anderson of Porter, TX and Gari Anderson & his wife Melissa of Hemphill, TX; daughters Kimberley Philyaw of Markham, Karrie Rush & her husband Steven of Blessing and Kathleen Little & her husband Bill of Markham; 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends and relatives from 5PM until 7PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Funeral service will be 10:00 AM Thursday, August 17, 2017 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Rev. Howard Harper officiating. Interment will follow at Ashby Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Greg Anderson, Marvin Elliott, Grady Quinney, Dustin Nemec, Joe Garcia and Mark Anderson.

Kathryn Anderson, 59, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, December 15, 2011. Kathryn was born on October 22, 1952 in Bay City, TX to David & Ella Mae Bohuslav Crawford. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her grandchildren knew her as Money. The thing she loved the most was caring for her children and grandchildren. Kathryn is survived by her loving husband of 41 years: George Anderson; children: Kimberly Philyaw, Karrie Rush & husband Steven; Kathleen Little & husband Bill, Greg Anderson, Gari Anderson & wife Melissa; 14 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; 3 brothers: Joe, Charles, and Otto Frick; grandmother: Ms. Lillie Bohuslav; and other numerous loving relatives. She was preceded in death by her father: J. C. Greene, and grandfather: Charles Bohuslav. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM Sunday, December 18, 2011 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held 10:00 AM Monday, December 19, 2011 at Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Rev. Melvin Ryman officiating. Interment will follow at Ashby Cemetery. Funeral services for Mrs. Gottfred Bieri, 71, a resident of this community since 1916, were held from the family home in the Ashby community, Thursday afternoon, May 29, with Rev. R. E. Black, pastor of the Baptist church of Markham, officiating. Mrs. Bieri died Wednesday, May 28, after an illness of several years. She was born in Berne, Switzerland, Miss Annie Elizabeth Stupe but came to the United States at the age of 29 with her husband, finally moving to Matagorda County in 1916, where they made their home in the Ashby community. She is survived by her husband and seven children, five sons and two daughters. The daughters are Mrs. Charles Knocke, of Bixby, Ola., Mrs. Walter Phelps, Tulsa, Okla. The sons are Fred, of Salinas, Calif., Ernest of Katy, Texas; Edwin, of Angleton, Texas; and Willie and Herman C. of Palacios. Mrs. Bieri was an active worker in the Lutheran church since coming to this section and was well known throughout the county. Interment took place in the Ashby cemetery.

Funeral services for Gottfred Bieri, 88, were held Wednesday, May 1, at the Ashby Baptist Church with Rev. R. E. Black officiating. Interment was in the Ashby Cemetery. Mr. Bieri, who lived on Route 1, Palacios, died Monday evening, April 29. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Phelps of Batesville, Ark., Mrs. Lena Knocke of Bixley, Okla.; five sons, Fred, Edwin and Herman of Angleton, Ernest of Katy and Willie of Palacios.

William Fred Bieri, 64, passed away April 1, 2012. He was born August 18, 1947 to Mr. and Mrs. William John Bieri. He served in the US Navy from 1969 to 1972 aboard the USS Coral Sea. His parents preceded him in death. He is survived by special friends Greg & Stephanie Crain and Ramona Chavez and the entire Chavez family. Funeral services for William John Bieri were held at the Palacios Funeral Home Wednesday, November 10, at 2 in the afternoon with the Rev. H. A. Whitfield officiating. Interment was in Ashby Cemetery. Born in Wellston, Oklahoma in 1913 a son of Godfrey [Gottfred] and Elizabeth Stuke Bieri, he had been a resident of this area since 1914. He died Monday morning, November 8, at Wagner General Hospital. He is survived by a son, William Fred Bieri of Ashby, two sisters, Lena Koche of Bixby, Okla. and Lizzie W. Phillips of Barnsdall, Okla.; four brothers, Ernest Bieri of Katy, Fred, Ed and Herman Bieri of Angleton.

Palacios Oaks Volunteer Fire Department.

Charlie R. Bohuslav, 86, of Markham died Wednesday April 5, 1995, in Bay City, Texas. He was born November 10, 1908, in Poteet, Texas to Antoine and Elizabeth Mikesh Bohuslav. Mr. and Mrs. Bohuslav would have been married 61 years on May 1. He is survived by his wife, Lillie Bohuslav of Markham, by two daughters and sons-in-law, Lois and Edward Quinney of Markham and Ella Mae and David Crawford of La Porte, by one brother, Emil Bohuslav of Huntsville, 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral servies will be held at 2:00 p. m. Friday at the Chapel of Taylor Bros. Funeral Home with Rev. Gary Pettigrew officiating. Burial will follow at Ashby Cemetery. Pallbearers include Joe Frick, Charles Frick, Wayne Anderson, Stephen Quinney and Ronald Anderson. Honorary pallbearers include Edward Quinney and David Crawford. Arrangements are with Taylor Bros. Funeral Home in Bay City.

Lillie Mae Bohuslav, 96, of Markham, TX passed away December 13, 2013. She was born March 11, 1917 in Lyons, TX to the late Stephen Jurek and Liddie Mae Jaursek Jurek. She was the cafeteria manager at Markham Elementary School for 35 years and drove a school bus for 30 years. She was an excellent cook and was loved by her grandchildren for her homemade Kolaches and Chicken Noodle Soup. She was also known for the beautiful flowers she raised in her yard and the hand made quilts she shared. Her husband Charlie Bohuslav and granddaughter Kathryn Anderson preceded her in death. Survivors include daughters Lois Quinney & husband Edward of Markham and Ella Mae Crawford & husband David of Pampa, TX; sisters Bertha Vonderau of Wharton and Lena Hill of Boling; grandchildren Stephen Quinney, Anna Bush, Joe Frick, Charles Frick and Otto Frick; great grandchildren Kim, Karrie, Kassy, Cody Casey, Amanda, Joseph, Abby, Zachary, Will, Joey and Ronnie and great-great grandchildren Haley, Jolie, Hagen, Hunter, Jacey, Hannah, Matthew, Tanner, Haislynne, Coy and Emori. The family will receive friends and relatives from 5pm until 7pm Sunday at the funeral home. Graveside service will be 2:00 PM Monday, December 16, 2013 at Ashby Cemetery with Rev. Melvin Ryman officiating. Pallbearers will be Joey Quinney, Ronnie Andrews, Cody Frick, Joseph Frick, Hudson Bates and Steven Rush.

Funeral services for Uri Cihat, 82, of Spring, formerly of Bay City, were scheduled for 10 a. m. today at the Bay City Funeral Home chapel with Dr. W. D. Baker of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial was to follow at Ashby Cemetery. Mrs. Cihat was born Nov. 12, 1908, to Sam and Lila Yeamans and died July 1, 1991, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in the Woodlands. She was a member of the Baptist church and the Rebekah Lodge. She is survived by her daughter, Delila Cihat of Spring, and one brother, Lloyd Yeamans of Sealy. Pallbearers are Gordon Hardegree, Gaston Marton, Gerald Rowland, James Sowell, Bill Ehlert and Roy Sanders. Service are under the direction of Dick R. Elkins of Bay City Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Della Colvin, 97, of San Antonio will be held at 1 p. m. Sunday, Aug. 7, 1994, at the Palacios Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Ashby Cemetery. Mrs. Colvin was born Aug. 5, 1896, in Lawndale, to James John and Josephine Louise Langer Hebel and died Aug. 3, 1994, in Southwest Hospital in San Antonio. A former resident of Palacios, she had lived in San Antonio since 1944. She was a founding member of the Church of God of Prophecy in San Antonio. Survivors include three daughters and son-in-law, Josephine C. Hoch of Boerne, LaVerne C. Lewis of San Antonio and Virginia and Kenneth Lang of Austin; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Virgil James Colvin of Waco and Delbert and Doris Colvin of Beaumont; 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews and their children. In lieu of usual remembrances, donations may be made to the Church of God of Prophecy at 718 W. Pyron, San Antonio, Texas, 78211 or to the Ashby Cemetery Fund at Rt. 11 Box 226 in Palacios, Texas 77465. The family expresses their deep thanks to Ruth Palmer saying, "Your love and care of our mother and grandmother will always be appreciated." William Fletcher Colvin, 73, passed away in San Antonio Friday and services were held for him on Sunday at 2 p. m. in the Alamo Funeral Home in San Antonio. Graveside services were Monday afternoon at the Ashby Cemetery, Rev. W. A. Dykes of the Church of God of Prophecy officiating. Taylor Brothers handled graveside services. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Della Primrose Colvin of San Antonio, three daughters, two sons and two brothers. He was a former resident of the Ashby community.
