The New Vanderbilt Presbyterian Church will look something like this when the proposed building program is completed in the not too distant future. The drawing is by Architect Henry Steinbomer of San Antonio and represents the projected tentative plans for the church and its attendant buildings located across from Industrial High School at Vanderbilt. Actual work may begin in the summer. The building on the right is the present church. It will be remodeled and moved into a new location and used as a Fellowship Hall. The present manse, shown in the rear and upper left corner, also will be moved. The new church will be of masonry exterior

Ground was broken Sunday, August 28, for a new Presbyterian Sanctuary at Vanderbilt. Officers and member of the church took part in the ceremony. The first shovel was turned by Edgar Moss, a member of the building committee, followed by Jake Leissner and E. H. Murphy, other members of the committee. Prior to the ground breaking, John Toppins of Edna, the supply pastor of the Church, challenged the congregation to build not only the physical structure, but also to build new hearts. Plans for the building were drawn by Hugh Ottley of Edna who also took part in the service, and the contract was let to Mercer Construction Company. The church will be of brick veneer, seat about 100 and be air-conditioned. The old church building will be remodeled to provide educational space.
Soon A New Church Ground was broken Sunday for a new Presbyterian Church at Vanderbilt. Miss Kay Moss is shown turning one of the first shovels of dirt. Jake Leissner (left) turned the first shovel and Edgar Moss (right) father of Kay, also turned one. Miss Moss also distinguished herself last week by personally and alone collecting Vanderbilt's share of the Salvation Army drive.
