Edna Weekly Herald, Thursday, May 20, 1937 Attendance Certificates
The County Superintendent awarded over one
hundred Attendance Certificates this year. The pupils that were
not absent more than three days and tardy two are entitled to
recognition of some kind. They have the bad weather, distance
and muddy roads as a handicap. |

Every year we have many requests for the names and addresses of the teachers from the many local business concerns. The Herald has requested this list several times as they consider it good news, and everyone is anxious to know who is going to direct their school the ensuing term.

The county-wide graduation exercises will be held May 3rd at 8:00 o’clock P. M. in the Edna High School auditorium. A complete program will be given in the next issue of the paper. There will be between eighty and eighty-four graduates in the seventh grade this year. I wish to insist that all teachers to encourage and to do all in their power to see that all their seventh grade pupils are present for this graduation exercise. Partial list of Graduates
All papers have not been graded up to the present writing,

In the school annexation election held Saturday in the Edna Independent School District, Texana District, Blair District, McCrory District and the Live Oak District, the total vote was: For annexation 312, against 98. Edna and Blair voted in favor of annexation, while the other districts voted against it. The vote by boxes was:
In an annexation election the total vote
of all the districts concerned county, hence the issue
carried in Saturday's election. Had the election been for
"consolidating," the issue to carry would have to get a
majority in each district. |

In the election Saturday to vote on consolidating the LaWard, Lolita and Vanderbilt school districts, the vote was all but unanimous for consolidation--402 to 10. We are indebted to Supt. Richard R. Hardin of the Vanderbilt school for the vote by boxes, as follows:
This creates a large school district in South Jackson County with approximately 750 scholastics and 40 teachers.
The district is to be known as the Industrial
Consolidated Independent School District. For the current school
year, all schools will continue to operate as they did the last
school year with a few minor changes. |

As was announced in the Herald recently, an election was held in the Ganado Independent School District and the New Hope and White Hall Common School Districts last Saturday, July 17, to determine whether or not the Ganado Independent District should annex the two Common School Districts. Below we give the unofficial results:
Only a majority vote was necessary for the issue to carry, hence beginning with the next school term the White Hall and New Hope schools become a part of the Ganado Independent School District.
The same condition prevailed at Ganado as
in Edna--the town people voted in favor of the proposition,
while the rural people voted against it. |
