Miss Agnes Cheney, who underwent an operation for appendicitis Feb. 8th, at the Renger Hospital in Hallettsville, passed away Friday, Feb. 12th at 8:30 P. M. Interment was made in the Protestant Cemetery at Hallettsville on Feb. 13th. She is survived by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Keller Cheney, and one brother, George. To the bereaved ones the writer extends heartfelt sympathy. Quite a number of McCroryites attended the funeral. Mr. Fletcher and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Gary visited Mr. and Mrs. Clay King Sunday. I. B. Clements Jr., and Misses Fredda, Mable and Pet Clements who attend school in Edna, spent the week end with homefolks. Lester Hazlewood of Ganado visited in the Clements home Sunday. Mr. Lifford Luthringer and Woodrow and Jack Kellogg visited Dempsey Wofford Sunday. Miss Erma Wofford had as her guests Sunday evening, Misses Bessie Huseman and Violet Hultquist and Mr. Brown of Ganado.

Mr. Richard Kellogg, who is working on the S. P. Railroad, spent the week end with homefolks. Mr. Kellogg Cheney and son, George, came home Saturday from Vienna after a visit of something like two weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Clay King spent Sunday in Wharton. Mr. Henry Macon was a dinner guest at the home of Mr. M. B. Harris Friday. The Kellogg family spent Sunday afternoon at the Louis Gary home. Misses Freddda, Mabel, Pet and I. G. Clements Jr., spent the week end with Homefolks. Roy Clements is on the sick list this week. We hope he will soon recover and return to school. Our community is enjoying a little dry air now which we hope will continue so the farmers will have an opportunity to get their crops started.

Mr. Fletcher, Mrs. King and Margaret spent Easter with relatives in Hungerford. Mr. and Mrs. York, Jesse Ellis, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Harris and Mrs. Jacobs spent Easter Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Burl Harris. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Gary were lunch guests at the Kellogg home Sunday. Mr. Richard Kellogg, who is working in Skidmore for the S. P. railroad, spent Easter Sunday with homefolks. Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Wofford and little daughter, Mavis Claire, attended the M. E. revival meeting in Ganado Saturday and Sunday nights. A good crowd was reported and a good service enjoyed. We had an Easter hunt at the McCrory school house after 3 o’clock Friday evening, and all the children enjoyed it immensely. Mr. I. B. Clement was in Edna and Ganado on business Monday. Sammie Wofford spent Sunday with Mabel and Pet Clements. Irma Wofford spent the week end with homefolks. Some of the McCroryites were at the Cordele school house Saturday night and reported a good time. We had a good crowd at singing Sunday night and we hope that there will be a big crowd next Sunday night. All are invited to come.

Quite a large crowd attended the rodeo and barbecue given at the J. W. Wofford Ranch Saturday and Sunday. Mr. Louis Gary returned from Kenedy Tuesday where he had been taking treatments from a specialist. His many friends hope that he will soon be on the road to permanent recovery. Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Wilbeck of Wharton visited their daughter, Mrs. Clay King, Saturday and Sunday. Miss Erna Wofford, who attended Victoria Junior College during the summer term, returned home Sunday. Mrs. I. B. Our school closed Friday afternoon. Our teacher and several of the mothers took the children on the creek and had a picnic. Everyone had a good time. Mr. and Mrs. Clay King and daughter, Margaret, were El Campo visitors Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hazlewood and two little daughters of Houston spent several days in the J. W. Wofford home the past week. Mr. George Cheney, who is employed in Houston, and Miss Pet Clements of Edna visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Keller Cheney last Saturday. Mr. O. D. Johnson of Ganado visited in the W. L. Baker home Sunday afternoon. Mr. Clay King made a business trip to Hungerford last week. Among those attending the party at the school house Saturday night were people from Edna, Blair, LaBauve, Morales, New Hope, Cordele, Texana. Everyone present reported an enjoyable time. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Farris of Ganado visited in the Clay King home Sunday. Mrs. Arthur Braddock spent Sunday with her sister, Mrs. W. L. Baker. The party at the McCrory school house was well attended Saturday night. Allen Sturms, Pete Wells and Miss Lottie Matejek of Edna were visitors in our community one night last week. Mrs. Herman Wells and son, Vernon, returned home Monday after spending the week end with her parents at Morales. Her mother, Mrs. Jim Carroll, and aunt, Mrs. Rounds, and nephew of El Campo accompanied her home for a visit. Messrs. Roy and Clyde Budd were business visitors in this community Monday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Baker and children spent Sunday with his parents near Edna. Pete Wells returned home Saturday night after working two weeks for Mr. Joe Frenzel at Casa Blanca. On Sunday, June 20th quite a number of friends gathered at the Julius Poppisil home to help Eugenia celebrate her 12th birthday. Various games were played after which the guests were invited into the dining room where the table was loaded with goodies and punch. Every one had a nice time and wished Eugenia many more such birthday. Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Braddock left last Wednesday for Corpus Christi to visit his brother and to look for work. Mrs. W. L. Oswald Kubecka and Julius Pospisil are attending the Fat Stock Show at Houston, being interested in the Boys’ 4-H Club division. School News A number of pupils have been absent from school due to colds and flu. We are making plans to participate in the amateur program to be given at the Trades Day celebration in Ganado. In spite of the cold weather we are still planting flowers and trying to improve the appearance of our school yard Since we are required to make a hundred per cent in our “Word Book” spelling each day and not have more than five mistakes in our league spelling, we have not had many “perfect spellers” recently. Sunday, July 9th, a crowd of friends gathered at the W. L. Baker home for a picnic lunch. The occasion being Mrs. Bill Trlicek’s birthday. Among those present were Mr. and Mrs. I. B. Clements, Jr. and son, Albert Bee, of the Live Oak community, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Pospisil, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Baker and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Trlicek. Mr. Bill Appelt of El Campo visited in our community Sunday. Mrs. Carl Pearson and children, Arline, Mearline and David, are visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Anderson and are also visiting relatives at Cordele. Several from here attended the rodeo at Cordele Sunday afternoon. Kay Lynn is the name of the winsome little Miss that came to gladden the home of Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Kilgore on July 7th. Mr. and Mrs. Orvall Hall of Houston spent Sunday with her brother, Ray Clements and wife. They also visited in the Keller Cheney home. Mr. and Mrs. I. B. Clements Sr. of Edna visited relatives and looked after business matters in this community Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Archer and children of Wharton visited their daughter, Mrs. Ray Clements, Friday. Jeraldine remained for a longer visit. Melva, Ethel and Helen Joyce Baker visited in the Ray Clements home Saturday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Trlicek, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Baker and daughters and Messrs. Dittrich and Kubena visited in the Pospisil home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Hunt visited in the Kilgore home Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Julius Pospisil is on the sick list, we are sorry to state. We wish for her a speedy recovery. Eugene Baker visited in the D. W. Hunt home at Cordele Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Julius Pospisil and family and Mr. and Mrs. Kubena and family attended a birthday celebration at the V. Kubecka home at El Campo Saturday night.

Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Lankford and daughter of Beaumont visited her brother, Ray Clements and wife, Friday. Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Baker and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Clements spent Sunday in the W. L. Baker home. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Trlicek, who have resided in this section for almost a year while Mr. Trlicek was employed here, returned to their home at LaGrange Tuesday where Mr. Trlicek has accepted a job with one the commissioners at LaGrange. We regret to see them leave our community, but wish them well. Mr. and Mrs. Portwood Alley were visiting in this community and also the Cordele community the last week end. Mrs. Alley will teach the Swanson school again this year. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Clements were shopping and visiting relatives in Edna Saturday.

School News The second month of school ended Friday with the usual monthly test, which the children are always glad to be through with. They are very proud that they have a perfect attendance record for the second month and are striving hard to have the remaining six months each end the same way. The First Thanksgiving is being worked out on the sand table. Too, Thanksgiving poster have been made. Perfect spellers were Melva Baker, sixth grade and Ethel Baker, fifth grade. Community News Mr. and Mrs. Ray Clements, accompanied Mrs. Clay King and Mrs. Faye Archer to Wharton last Sunday and spent the day with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. D. Archer. Mrs. Frank Young and daughter, Mattie Dee and son, V. D. Johnson, and granddaughter, Ella Dean Good of Ganado and Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Baker and children spent Sunday in the W. B. Baker home. Mrs. Ray Clements visited Mrs. W. L. Baker Saturday.
