Historical Unit Here Is Cited For Services The Jackson County Historical Survey Committee has been awarded the Texas State Historical Survey Committee and Texas Historical Foundation Citation for Distinguished Service. The announcement was made during the recent Statewide History and Tourists Workshop in Austin where they received special recognition for their work. This award is given to honor the committee's achievement of state goals for historical recordation, appreciation, marking, preservation and surveys in Texas. The Texas State Historical Survey Committee is the state agency for historical preservation and is privately supported through the work of the Texas Historical Foundation. Working toward the recognition from the two organizations is entirely voluntary. To achieve citation status, a series of nine special projects were accomplished in addition to three optional duties picked from nine other possible activities. The citation, signed by Governor John Connally, was given to County Judge Larkin T. Thedford whose office is responsible for the appointments of County Historical Survey committees, to County Chairman Mrs. Ervin LaBauve of Edna and all members of the Jackson County Historical Survey Committee. These committee members are Joe Cherry, W. F. Dewey, Chester Evans, Brownson Malsch and E. T. Rose of Edna and Mrs. Rose McCullough of Ganado. Those from Jackson County attending the Austin meeting were Mrs. LaBauve and Judge Thedford of Edna, and Mrs. Hugh McCulloch, Miss Louise McCulloch and Mrs. Marguerite Crow of Ganado.
