Mrs. B. H. Pearce

Mr. and Mrs. Lawson Christian and Mrs. Lula Bienenski, of Houston and Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Parrish and daughter, Helen Linscium, from Palacios, were all over here on Dec. 23 to be with other friends of Mrs. Emily Patterson at the old Francitas Cemetery where Mrs. Patterson was laid to rest beside her husband John J. Patterson who passed on several years ago. This dear old lady died in San Antonio, where she had been in a hospital for the past few years. W. W. Harvey officiated.

Mr. and Mrs. Ben Pearce of Edna also attended the Patterson funeral.

Friends here all extend sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. Clay Robertson in the death of his brother, George Robertson, who died in El Campo Hospital on Monday after Christmas.

Also to Calvin Joines of LaWard, we extend sympathy in the death of his wife, Mrs. Bessie Joines, who died after a lingering illness in the Ganado hospital.

Mrs. Frank Pearce had as her guest Christmas week, Mrs. Lucile Conley from Fort Warden, Washington.

Mr. and Mrs. M. R. Bolton spent Christmas in Pasadena, Texas, with her daughter and family.

Mr. and Mrs. E. S. Yoas had as their guests on Christmas Mr. and Mrs. Earl Howell (Kathryn Yoas) and family of Las Vegas, New Mexico.

Christmas and New Year’s Day have come and gone once more. Let us go forward with courage and hope and try to do more good in fifty-five than we have done before, making this a Happy New Year to Everybody.

The big event of the past week was a dance at the Francitas community center. We all had a very nice time.

Sheriff Lewis Walton was down visiting Saturday night.

Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Feldhousen from Houston spent the New Year weekend with his folks, Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Feldhousen.

Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Browning and family visited Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Rose January 1.

Mr. and Mrs. James Beaty and boys visited her father and sisters over the weekend.

Mr. and Mrs. Leon Smith of Waco spent the night with his mother.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Capak of El Campo attended the dance here Saturday night.

H. G. Whorton was in Blessing Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Pearce were visiting her brother and moving some trees from the old home to their new home in Edna.

We have our March of Dimes cans out at the store and post office or you can see Mrs. L. J.  Capak or Mrs. L. W. Feldhousen Jr.

D. P. Long is in the El Campo Hospital at this writing. We hope he is better and will soon come home.

Mrs. Howard Green is in the hospital in Ganado at this writing. We hope she will be better soon.

Bill Green is visiting in Corpus Christi at this writing.

Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Rose, Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Capak and Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Feldhousen Jr. were visiting in Refugio Sunday.

Mrs. Wesley Rose, Mrs. C. J. Wright and Mrs. Joe Fuson of San Angelo are here to visit D. P. Long.

There is going to be a March of Dimes dance at the Francitas community center on Jan. 29, at 8 p. m. The public is invited to attend to help a worthy cause.

Funeral Services Are Held Tuesday For Calvin Joines

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 10 o’clock at Slavik Funeral Home for Calvin I. Joines, 56, a farmer of the LaWard community, who died Sunday at 6:30 p. m. at his home. Rev. N. J. White, pastor of the Pentecostal Church at LaWard, officiated and burial was in the Edna Cemetery.

Pallbearers were W. G. Gayle, S. L. Dodson, Joe Kazmier, Clarence McFeron, H. H. Sears and J. J. Hunt.

Mr. Joines was born at LaWard February 7, 1898. He resided at Sheldon for some time, returning here seven years ago.

Surviving are three sons, Jessie Calvin of Lubbock, Clifford Lee of Houston and Roy Buford of Bay City; two daughters, Mrs. Florine White of LaWard and Mrs. Audrey Mae Guynes of Bay City; four brothers, Guy of Beaumont, Otis of Houston, R. R. and Wheeler of Francitas; four sisters, Mrs. Ryling Linton of Houston, Mrs. Addie Linton of Palacios and Mrs. Ruby Brown and Mrs. Lillie Moore of Beaumont; his stepmother, Mrs. Ada Joines of Francitas; one grandchild; two half brothers, J. T. Joines of Houston and W. R. Joines of Francitas; one half sister, Mrs. Etta Jean Gibbs of Bay City.

We had a community meeting on January 20 to elect five new men to take care of the Francitas Community Center. They are as follows: Preston Bowen, Curtiss Wofford, Carl Walleck, Louis Capak and Dub Joines.

Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Pearce of Edna were visiting down here Saturday.

D. P. Long is home from the El Campo hospital.

Mrs. Howard Green is home from the Ganado hospital.

Mrs. Agnes Wofford was in Edna shopping Saturday.

There will be a March of Dimes dance at the Francitas Community Center on January 29 at 8 p. m. The public is invited to help with this worthy cause.

Mr. and Mrs. Louis Capak and boys were visiting in Palacios recently.

W. W. Griffith was in Inez on business one day last week.

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Walleck attended a funeral near San Antonio Friday of last week.

Mr. and Mrs. Curtiss Wofford were in San Antonio visiting her folks recently.

The event of the past week was the March of Dimes dance that was given at the Community Center. We would like to thank all of the people who helped. We would also like to thank Mrs. Bill Parrish, who helped us sell.

D. P. Long has been moved from the El Campo hospital to the hospital in Houston.

Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Webb were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Bill Walpole Wednesday night.

Mr. and Mrs. Curtiss Wofford are enjoying their new Ford.

Mrs. Cliff Joines of Houston was down visiting Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. L. Wofford of Ganado attended the dance Saturday night.

Mr. and Mrs. Henry Beaty and sons were visiting her father and sisters over the weekend.

Mrs. Jim Harris and sons were visiting Mrs. Bill Abernathy over the weekend.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Walpole were visiting in San Antonio over the weekend.

There will be a H. D. meeting on February 4, 1955. All women are welcome.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Koch were visiting here Saturday night.

We received a note last week from Mr. Branch that the Francitas March of Dime chairman brought in $34.50. If any one would like to see this note see the chairman, Mrs. L. J. Capak.

Mrs. Howard Green is in the Ganado hospital. We hope she is better and will be coming home soon.

We were told the past week that our good friend, B. H. Pearce, from Edna has also been in the hospital. We hope he is well and home by now.

Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Feldhousen spent the weekend in Houston visiting their son.

Miss Wanda Campbell was visiting Miss Ethelene Walleck Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Allen was over visiting her folks Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. G. P. Long was in Houston visiting D. P. Long, who is in the hospital. They report that he is a little better.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Long was also in Houston visiting D. P. Long.

We have had quite a few colds going around the past few weeks, but most of them are well and have gone back to work again.

I would like to thank The Herald for putting me (Helen Feldhousen) on the staff. I am very happy to help all I can to make our county paper the best of all. I do hope that I can stay on as long as my friend, Mrs. B. H. Pearce, has been on it.

Mrs. Howard Green is home from the hospital and doing fine.

Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Linton from Houston were visiting here Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. Clay Robertson were in Palacios Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Capak and sons were visiting in Palacios Saturday.

Mrs. Agnes Wofford and children, Mrs. L. J. Capak and children, Mrs. L. W. Feldhousen Jr., Mrs. H. L. Rose, Mr. and Mrs. Curtiss Wofford and children and Mrs. Carroll attended the supper and dance at Deutschburg Friday night.

Mr. and Mrs. John Harper and family have moved over in the Deutschburg Community.

We surely did have a good cold spell last week.

The event of the past week was Game Night, during which games were played and pies and drinks sold. All those who attended reported a good time, and the funds raised will go to the Francitas Community Center.

The other event of the past week was the birthday party given for Vivian Wofford. It was given by her mother, and Vivian received a lot of nice gifts. Then her mother served cake, cookies and drinks. The out-of-town guests were Mrs. L. E. Wofford and daughters of Ganado and Jimmy Don Allen of Edna.

Mrs. Bill Allen was down visiting her folks Saturday evening.

B. H. Pearce was here visiting one day last week.

We are sorry to hear that Mrs. Howard Green is back in the hospital, and we hope she will get to come home soon.

Mr. and Mrs. C. P. Long went to Houston Saturday to visit D. P. Long. They report he is some better.

Mr. and Mrs. Curtiss Wofford were visiting in Edna Saturday.

Mrs. J. E. Allen of Blessing was visiting Mrs. W. T. Joines Jr. one day last week.

Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Capak were in Edna Saturday.

Mrs. Bill Parrish and sons were here visiting Saturday.

Mrs. Bolton has been sick for the past week. We hope she will be getting well soon.

The event of the past week was a birthday party given for William Capak and William Feldhousen. They received many nice gifts and then the mothers served cake, hot chocolate and coffee.

Mr. and Mrs. Preston Bowen and girls were visiting in Texas City over the weekend.

Those visiting in Mrs. Ada Joines’ home over the weekend were Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Linton of Houston and Mrs. Harrell Gibbs of Bay City.

Mr. and Mrs. Curtiss Wofford and Mrs. J. W. Wofford were in Dickinson visiting last Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Wofford and girls of Ganado were visiting Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Wofford Sunday.

Mrs. H. L. Rose and Mrs. L. W. Feldhousen Jr. were visiting Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Pearce in Edna Tuesday of last week.

Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Feldhousen were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Koch in Palacios one day last week.

All of “Grandpa” Long’s children were called to Houston and they report he is not doing so well. We are sorry to hear that he is not any better.

Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Wofford and daughters of Ganado were visiting here Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. George Miller were visiting last week with the Feldhousens.

Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Gangle of El Campo also visited the Feldhousens.

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Fuson and daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Rose and family, Mrs. Calvin Wright and daughters, and Mrs. James Foster of San Angelo were here to attend their grandfather’s funeral.

Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Pearce of Edna were visiting here the past week.

We are glad to hear that Mrs. Howard Green is out of the hospital and doing well.

Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Green of Bay City were visiting here Sunday.

Mrs. Dorris has moved back to Houston.

Those from here attending the funeral Saturday were Mrs. Jones, Mrs. H. L. Rose and Mrs. L. W. Feldhousen Jr.

Well, folks, this month brings on the Red Cross drive, so don’t forget. You can see Mrs. L. J. Capak or Mrs. L. W. Feldhousen Jr.

Last rites were held Saturday at the Fogle-West Funeral Home in Houston for D. P. Long, 81, who died Thursday in a Houston hospital. The Church of Christ pastor of Texas City officiated, and burial was in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Houston.

Surviving Mr. Long are his wife, six sons, Pete, Robert and Garland of Francitas; Harold of Ganado, C. D. of Houston and John of Texas City; one daughter, Thelma Rose of San Angelo; 20 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

The event of the week was a pink and blue shower given for Mrs. Carl Walleck in the home of Mrs. W. R. Joines Jr. Games were played and refreshments were served to a large crowd and many nice gifts were received.

Miss Paula Joines is in the El Campo hospital at this writing. We hope she will be better soon and get to come home.

Mrs. Cliff Joines and Mary Lou were visiting with Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Capak Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Feldhousen and girls of Houston spent the weekend with folks here.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Parrish were visiting his brother in Houston last weekend.

We received bad news from one of our friends. Grandma Koch has fallen and broken her hip.

Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Pearce of Edna were visiting with Mrs. L. W. Feldhousen Jr. and Mrs. H. L. Rose last Friday.

Mr. and Mrs. Willie Louis had as their guests the past week Mr. Louis, his father.

Mr. and Mrs. John Long of Texas City came down Friday and his mother returned home with him.

Mr. and Mrs. Gene Long of Houston spent the weekend here visiting kinfolks.

We are glad to hear that Miss Paula Joines has been going back to school.

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Allen spent Mother’s Day with Mr. and Mrs. Carl Walleck.

Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Feldhousen visited with Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Koch in Palacios.

Mr. and Mrs. G. P. Long visited with Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Griffith Saturday night.

Mr. and Mrs. Ben Grimes of Bay City were over to attend church Sunday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Summers are down to spend a couple of weeks with us.

We are sorry to hear that Mrs. Ruby Parrish was bitten by a snake one day last week. We hope she is doing better by now.

Mr. and Mrs. Curtiss Wofford went to Galveston Sunday to visit her mother, who is in the hospital there. We hope she is better and will get home soon.
