FRANCITAS—Word reached us last week that Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Joines of Thompson have a new baby girl, born Sept. 13. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Ada Joines of Francitas. Congratulations! Mrs. Stella Conner is home again from an extended visit in East Texas. Mrs. Charles Walling came in Tuesday, Sept. 16, to join her husband, who is now working with C. L. Conner. They will live in the Rose home over east of town. Welcome! Mrs. Reese is at her home again. Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Bowe are with her temporarily. Mr. and Mrs. J. V. Brocker of Deutschburg visited with Mrs. Ben Pearce Friday of last week. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pearce were visiting in Corpus Christi Friday and Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Feldhausen of Houston visited his parents the past weekend. Mr. and Mrs. James Beaty of Brownsville visited relatives here Saturday and Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Luther Ragsdale (Hardy) of Roswell, N. M., came in Sunday to visit the Pearces and also other friends. It will be remembered that Luther was one of our boys who was taken prisoner by the Japs away back in 1942 along with General Wainwright. H. A. Smith of Bay City with L. B. Hamilton were business visitors here Friday. James Wilson of Des Moines, Iowa, was also a business visitor here last Friday. Among those from Francitas who attended the Jackson County Fair were Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Wingate, Mr. and Mrs. Walleck, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Long, the families of C. L. and Leland Conner, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Capak, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Parrish, Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Rose, and others. Now the fair is over for 1952. We feel it was very good. The Francitans wish to thank all the workers who helped make the fair better than the last one. To Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Sells who kept the “wheel” turning for many months, we all wish to say a great big “Thank You.”

FRANCITAS.—Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pearce were among those who enjoyed watching the football game in Palacios Friday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Green are home again from a week’s vacation. Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Joines and daughter, Goldie, were supper guests at the home of Mrs. Alton Richardson in Palacios Wednesday evening. Word comes to us that our friend, Mrs. Elizabeth Koch (our Grandma Koch), is very ill in Beaumont at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Guy Joines. We feel that she is nearing the end of the journey. Our friend, T. A. Hawkins, of Houston, passed on Saturday, Sept. 27. To his family and especially to his mother, who will be 106 next March, we extend our heartfelt sympathy. Mr. and Mrs. R. H. Carnell of Houston are spending a few days of their vacation here at the home of her aunt, Mrs. Ben Pearce. Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Pearce of Corpus Christi came up Saturday to spend a few days. They, with the Carnells, enjoyed a day of fishing on the East Carancahua River Monday. Our hearts go out to Mr. and Mrs. Clay Robertson, whose brother, A. Robertson, is very ill. We, of Francitas, have been enjoying October’s bright, blue weather, but on Monday evening we had to close the north door and light the heaters.

FRANCITAS—Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Joines visited in Dickinson over the weekend of Oct. 4. Mr. and Mrs. William Walpole visited Mr. and Mrs. Eddie Adams in Port Lavaca over the weekend of Oct. 4. Mr. and Mrs. William Parrish visited Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Hanson in Houston Saturday and Sunday of the past week. Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Quinn were visitors in Palacios Saturday evening. Mrs. A. T. Lincecum, who is now living at Fulton, is a new subscriber to The Herald. Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Koch and children were in Palacios to attend church services. The Kochs, with the C. L. Conners, were fishing on the Carancahua Sunday afternoon Big catch? To be sure! Mr. and Mrs. Levi Quinn of Edna visited at his son’s home here Saturday evening. Word reached us at 12:30 a. m. Monday that Miss Dolly Joines was rushed to the hospital in Bay City for a serious operation. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Joines rushed over there before daybreak. We trust for Dolly a complete recovery. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pearce with Mr. and Mrs. Ben Pearce, were visiting in Bay City Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Emily Patterson was home for a few days last week.

Mr. and Mrs. Ben Pearce were in Edna on Monday evening to attend the meeting of our Fair Association. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas L. Dorn of Beatrice, Nebr., were business visitors here on Wednesday of last week. Mrs. Angie Knopp was visiting her son’s family, the H. G. Whortons, here on Wednesday last. Mr. and Mrs. M. Linton, who have been living in Bay City, are back home. They are now with his father, E. H. Linton. Word reached us by phone on Monday night that our friend, Addie Robertson, who was in the Mauritz Memorial Hospital, was not expected to live through the night. His brother, Clay, with his wife, went to his bedside immediately. At 4 a. m. on Thursday, Oct. 14, he passed away. Funeral services were held at the funeral home in Ganado, and Mr. Robertson was laid to rest beside his father and mother. To his loved ones we extend our heartfelt sympathy. Let us know that he has laid down his burden and is now resting on the “other side,” where pain and suffering are no more. Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Jones, with the Carl Rosenquists of Inez, called at the John McKey home in Telferner on Saturday evening and gave Mrs. McKey, his sister, a surprise birthday party. They then spent Saturday night with the Rosenquists, and returned home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Leland Conner, with Mr. and Mrs. Charles Walling, left Friday evening to visit at Ratclif, Texas. They first visited at the J. L. Warren home and then called on Mr. and Mrs. E. W Walling. Harvey Clapp Jr., who is now with the boys in khaki over in North Carolina, is home (at Louise) for a month’s leave. He was down to see us on Friday last, and he looks every inch the soldier. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pearce were in Yorktown last Friday night to attend the football game. Mr. and Mrs. Clay Robertson, with Mrs. Chorney Walker of LaWard, were visitors in Galveston last Wednesday night.
