Judge J. S. McNutt was a native of Virginia, but he spent his entire life in Jackson County, except for four or five years. He was a splendid lawyer and spent two terms as County Judge of Jackson County. He was an excellent Latin and Greek scholar and took great delight in imparting his knowledge of those two languages to young men and women who were scholars. He made his home in Edna with George S. Gayle. He died in Austin, February 20, 1908.
