Mr. and Mrs. Victor Jansky were called to Hallettsville this week by the serious illness of his father, Mr. J. M. Jansky. Word has been received here that the sick gentleman passed away Saturday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock. Deceased was a well known and highly esteemed citizen of Lavaca County. To the bereaved family the writer extends heartfelt sympathy.

Joseph Frank Staha, age 85, of 607 West Gerald St., passed away Tuesday Nov. 5, 1968 in a local hospital. He is survived by his son, John B. Staha; daughters, Mrs. T. M. Hughes both of San Antonio, Mrs. C. J. McDonald of Aberdeen, Maryland; son-in-law, Lee Fehrenkemp, Hallettsville, Texas; brothers, Val Staha, Hallettsville, Tex., John E. Staha, San Antonio; sisters, Mrs. Mary Malchar, Corpus Christi, Mrs. Bill Raska, Floresville Mrs. Olga Parsek and Mrs. Emil Parsek both of Hallettsville; 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He retired from the San Antonio Fire Department after 33 years of service and a lifelong resident at 8:00 p. m. Wednesday at Brookehill Chapel. Services Thursday 9:30 a. m. at Brookehill Chapel, followed by Requiem Mass at 10:00 a. m. at St. Leo's Catholic Church by Rev. Leo J. Ebisch C. M. Interment will be in San Fernando No. 2 Cemetery. Widely-Known Retired Farmer Dies After Long Illness
John Jansky

Funeral services were held for John Jansky of Yorktown Tuesday, February 17, at 2:30 o'clock in the afternoon from the Mollenhauer Chapel, with Rev. J. F. Vorkoper officiating. Interment was in the Westside Cemetery.

Mr. Jansky had been ill for about a year, and passed away at 6:35 a.m. Monday, February 16, after reaching the age of 67 years, 3 months and 15 days.

He was born in Lavaca County on November 1, 1885, a son of John M. and Mary Nell Wasut [Vasut] Jansky. When he was 19 years of age he moved to Yorktown, and on November 14, 1911, he married Ameila Strakos. He was actively engaged in farming up until about seven years ago when he retired and moved to town, selling the farm to his son, Charlie.

Mr. Jansky was a good neighbor, and was always friendly and full of good humor.

He is survived by his devoted wife; three sons, Charlie of Yorktown, John of Edna and Robert Lee of San Antonio; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Jane Rigsby of San Antonio, Mrs. Lloyd (Elsie Evelyn) Hood of San Antonio; 13 grandchildren; four brothers, Charlie of San Antonio, Joe and Wiley of Hallettsville and Victor of Morales; four sister, Mrs. C. L. (Mary) Stavinoha of Houston, Mrs. Norman (Emily) Fehrenkamp, Mrs. Gus (Gertrude) Appelt and Miss Annie Jansky of Hallettsville; other relatives and a host of friends.

Amelia Jansky

Yorktown--Amelia Jansky, 92, of Yorktown died Saturday at a San Antonio hospital after a long illness.

She was born March 13, 1895, in DeWitt County, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ignatz Strakos. She married John Jansky on Nov. 14, 1911, in Yorktown.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p. m. Sunday at Lamprecht-Janssen Funeral Home in Yorktown. The Rev. Richard Garbus will officiate.

Burial will be in Westside Cemetery.

She is survived by three sons, Charlie Jansky of Yorktown, Johnny Jansky of Edna and Robert Lee Jansky of Houston; a daughter, Elsie Evelyn Hood of Von Ormy; and 16 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two daughters, and her husband, who died on Feb. 16, 1953.

Memorials may be donated to the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Yorktown.

Hallettsville--Charles D. Jansky, 96, of Hallettsville, died at 7:28 a. m. Sunday in a Hallettsville nursing home.

He was born Dec. 6, 1889, in Lavaca County to the late John and Mary Vaschute Jansky. He married Rillie Wharton, who preceded him in death in 1952 [1953]. He married Lonie A. Nolan on May 12, 1957, in Hallettsville. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Hollis Hoffman officiating. Burial will follow in City Cemetery.

The body will lie in state at Kubena Funeral Home until 9 a. m. Tuesday when it will be taken to the church for services.

Surviving are his wife, Lonie Jansky of Hallettsville; a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Appelt of Hallettsville; and three brothers, Victor, Wylie and Joe Jansky, both of Hallettsville.

In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church or to the charity of the donor's choice.

Mrs. Mary Ann Stavinoha

Hallettsville--Mrs. Mary Ann Stavinoha, 88, of Houston, a native of Lavaca County, died at 6 a. m. Tuesday in a Houston hospital.

Born Feb 14, 1892, Mrs. Stavinoha was a charter member of the Catholic Daughters. She was the wife of the late Judge C. L. Stavinoha.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville with the Rev. Celestino Say officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery under direction of Kubena Funeral Home.

The body will lie in state at the funeral home until 9 a. m. Thursday.

Rosaries will be held at 8 p. m. Wednesday at the funeral home and at 9:30 a. m. Thursday at the church.

She is survived by two son, Dr. Leroy Stavinoha and John Stavinoha, both of Houston; and a daughter, Mary Vetrano of Houston.

County Attorney C. L. Stavinoha Passes Away Sunday

Many hearts throughout this section were saddened Monday morning when it became known that Co. Attorney C. L. Stavinoha of Hallettsville, had passed away at his home on Sunday evening at 7:45. Death came unexpectedly while playing with his grandson, although he suffered with an attack of the flu for about a week.

Funeral service were conducted from the family residence on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. thence to the Sacred Heart Church for Requiem High Mass. Interment followed in the Hallettsville Catholic Cemetery.

C. L. Stavinoha was born in Czechoslovakia in 1875 and came to this country when 8 years of age. In 1914 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Jansky who with the following 3 children survive: Cpt. Leroy Stavinoha who is in England, Cpt. John Lamar Stavinoha who has returned from the Aleutian Islands and is now stationed in Florida and Miss Mary Eliose Stavinoha of Houston. Surviving also are two grandchildren.

Deceased was one of the best known men in Lavaca County. For many years he was engaged in teaching school and then practiced law. He served as representative in the state legislature. From 1910 to 1920 he served Lavaca County as county attorney and from 1922 to 1928 as county judge. Two years ago he was again returned to the office of county attorney, an office he held at his passing. During his many years of service as a public official he gained  the confidence and esteem of many hearts.

To those who mourn his passing, we offer sincere and heartfelt sympathy.

Hallettsville--Joe Jansky, 101, of Hallettsville died Monday, Jan. 8, 1996.

He was born March 6, 1894, in Lavaca County to the late John and Mary Vaschute Jansky. He married the former Ellie Reagan on Oct. 23, 1917, in Hallettsville. Mr. Jansky was a retired farmer and rancher. He was a member of SPJST Lodge and Sacred Heart Church.

Survivors: daughters, Josephine Fertsch and Leona Guenther, both of Hallettsville, and Ruth Tarrillion of San Antonio; 11 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: wife on Oct. 9, 1967; daughters, Ellie Marie Fritsch; son, Joe B. Jansky; five sisters; four brothers; one grandchild and four great-great-grandchildren.

Visitations will begin at 3:30 p. m. today at Kubena Funeral Home.

A rosary will be recited at 7 p. m. tonight at the funeral home and 1:30 p. m. Thursday at Sacred Heart Church.

The body will be at the funeral home until 1 p. m. Thursday, then taken to the church for the 2 p. m. services, the Rev. John Peters officiating.

Burial will be at City Cemetery, Kubena Funeral Home, Hallettsville, 798-3271.

Mrs. Ellis Jansky

Hallettsville--Mrs. Ellie Jansky, 73, whose home near Hallettsville was destroyed by a tornado which spun out of Hurricane Beulah, died at 2 p. m. Monday in a Hallettsville hospital.

Mrs. Jansky was not injured in the storm.

She was born Dec. 5, 1893, in Lavaca County.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Wednesday at Kubena Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dwight Reagan, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in City Cemetery.

Survivors include her husband, Joe B. Jansky; three daughters, Mrs. Josephine Fertsch of Hallettsville, Mrs. Paul Tarrillion of San Antonio, and Mrs. Robert Guenther of Irving, Tex., a brother, John Reagan of Hallettsville; three sisters, Mrs. Victoria Jansky of Hallettsville, Mrs. Weaver Bishop, both of Hallettsville, and Mrs. Maggie Campion of Austin.

Hallettsville--Wylie V. Jansky, 93, of Hallettsville died in a local nursing home Monday, Dec. 9, 1991.

Mr. Jansky was born Feb. 14, 1898, in Lavaca County to the late John M. and Mary Vasut Jansky. He was a member of the SPJST Lodge and a member of Sacred Heart Church in Hallettsville.

Survivors: daughter, Shirley Edge of Poth; sons, Wylie E. Jansky of Joshua and Paul M. Jansky of Hallettsville; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by wife, Mary D. Dietz Jansky on March 9, 1986; one daughter; and parents.

Rosary 9:30 a. m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church.

Services 10 a. m. Wednesday at the church, the Rev. Celestino Say officiating.

Burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Kubena Funeral Home, Hallettsville, 798-3271.

She is survived by her husband, Wylie V. Jansky of Hallettsville; a daughter, Mrs. Shirley Edge of Poth; two sons, Wylie E. Jansky of Fort Worth and Paul M. Jansky of Hallettsville' 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, a brother and a sister.

Fehrenkamp - Jansky

At the Catholic church in this city early Monday morning at 5:30 o'clock was solemnized the wedding of Mr. Norman B. Fehrenkamp and Miss Emily Jansky, Rev. M. Mathis officiating. Witnesses were Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Bozka. Immediately after the ceremony the happy young couple left per automobile for Shiner, Gonzales and San Antonio on their wedding trip. Returning they will be at home in Hallettsville, having rented rooms at the W. M. Pillar residence.

The happy wedding will be a pleasant surprise to the many friends of the contracting parties. The groom is a son of Mrs. W. B. Fehrenkamp of Shiner. For the past two years he has been a valued employee as clerk and cashier for the S. A. & A. P. railroad at the depot here. He is a very fine young man who makes friends by his acquaintances. His bride is a very sweet and popular young lady, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Jansky of R5 Hallettsville. She has been saleslady at different stores in our town, lately employed at the Nickel store.

Hallettsville--Funeral services for Mrs. Norman (Emily) Fehrenkamp of Hallettsville were held Tuesday morning, November 16, 1965. The services began at the Kubena Funeral Home at 9:30 and continued at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Msgr. Alois J. Morkovsky officiated at the Mass and Rev. Thomas O'Callaghan delivered the sermon. Burial was in the Hallettsville Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Robert J. Pesek, Julius Opela, Jodie Mikulenka, Julius Bucek, Emil Kocian and William Allen.

A member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters of America, Mrs. Fehrenkamp was born in Lavaca County, August 29, 1901, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Jansky. She had reached the age of 64 years, 2 months and 16 days. On November 6, 1922, she was married to Norman Fehrenkamp in Hallettsville and they had made their home there since their marriage.

Besides her husband, she is survived by one nephew, Jimmy Rigsby, who has made his home with them for a number of years; four brothers, Charles, Joe and Wylie Jansky of Edna; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Stavinoha of Houston, Mrs. Gus Appelt and Miss Annie Jansky, both of Hallettsville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.

Rosaries were recited at the funeral home Monday night.

Mrs. Fehrenkamp passed away in the Renger Memorial Hospital, Hallettsville, Monday November 15 at 12:55 a. m. after a lingering illness.

Hallettsville--Norman B. Fehrenkamp, 72, of Hallettsville, died Friday at 10:30 p. m. at home.

A member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Hallettsville Volunteer Fire Department, an organization in which he had held several offices, he belonged to the Appelt Hill Gun Club, Knights of Columbus Council 2433, St. Joseph's Society, Farm Bureau and was a past member of the city council.

Mr. Fehrekamp was born Dec. 30, 1900 in Lavaca County. He was married to the former Emily Jansky, who preceded him in death in 1965. They married Nov. 6, 1922 in Hallettsville.

Funeral services will be Sunday at 3 p. m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The body will be at the church from 2 p. m. until time for services.

Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, with Kubena Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The Rev. Stanley Petru will officiate at the services.

Pallbearers will be Paul Najvar, Alvin Grahmann, Franklin Billimek, F. W. Timm Jr., Bill Matchon and Jerome Haas.

Members of the Hallettsville Volunteer Fire Department will be honorary pallbearers.

Rosary was held by the parish and society Saturday evening at the Kubena Funeral Home.

Survivors include a brother, Lee Fehrenkamp of Hallettsville; one sister, Mrs. Hugo Koehler of Yoakum.

Hallettsville – Victor H. Jansky, 90, of Hallettsville died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 1994.

 

He was born Jan. 14, 1904, in Lavaca County to the late John and Mary Vaschute Jansky. He married the former Myrtle Reagan on Oct. 22, 1924 in Yoakum and Jessie L. Mikulenka on Aug. 20, 1980 in Hallettsville. He was retired from U. S. Postal Service and ranching. Mr. Jansky was a member of First Assembly of God Church.

 

Survivors: wife; stepdaughters, Linda Welborn of Channelview and Mary Garbe of Port Lavaca; sons. Leon Jansky and Jimmy Jansky, both of Morales; stepsons, Gene Mikulenka of Houston, William Mikulenka of Markham, David Mikulenka of San Antonio and Michael Mikulenka of Green River, Wyo.; brother, Joe Jansky of Hallettsville; 21 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

 

Preceded in death by: first wife on Oct. 24, 1979.

 

Visitations begin: 11:30 a. m. Thursday, Kubena Funeral Home chapel.

She was born July 24, 1901 in Lavaca County and married Victor Jansky in Yoakum on Oct. 22, 1924. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Hallettsville.

 

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 10 a. m. at First Baptist Church in Hallettsville with the Rev. Melvin Zornes officiating. The body will be taken to the church at 9 a. m. where it will lie in state until time of services.

 

Burial will be the deacons of First Baptist Church of Hallettsville.

 

She is survived by her husband, Victor Jansky of Hallettsville; two sons, Jimmy and Leon Jansky; both of Morales; and five grandchildren.

Victor Leon Jansky, 68, life long resident of Morales, Texas, went to be with the Lord Sunday, May 7, 2006.

 

He was born July 24, 1937, in Morales, TX to the late Victor H. Jansky and Myrtle Reagan Jansky. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and rancher. Ordained as a deacon in the Morales Baptist Church since 1965. He served in the military during the Cuban Berlin Crisis from 1960-1966.

 

Survivors: Wife, Jo Ann Jansky of Morales; daughters, Rhonda Treadwell of Morales, and Vickie Hopkins of Inez; four grandchildren, Whitney and Megan Treadwell, and Mason and Collin Hopkins; brother Jimmy Jansky of Morales; three nephews, Lonnie Jansky, Steve Jansky, Mike Tangorra, and Freddie Tarver; and nieces, Nicole Jansky and Lynette Goldman.

 

Preceded in death by daughter Angela Leann Jansky.

Jo Ann Jansky, of Edna, Texas, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 26, 2020 after complications from a short & courageous battle with pancreatic cancer & listening to the 2020 Democrat debates. She was born in Edna, Texas, on February 4, 1941, to the late William Tarver & Lula Mae Yendrey. Jo Ann met the love of her life & 3 months later, she & Leon were married on October 28, 1958.  Together they had 3 daughters, Rhonda, “Le Ann” & Vickie.

Jo Ann loved helping and taking care of her husband. She was often helping him in the hay fields or tending cattle, she was never afraid to get her hands dirty. Every Sunday you would find her next to Leon at Morales Baptist Church. Jo Ann had a few hobbies that she loved, most were spoiling her grandchildren and watching them grow. Planting azaleas in her yard, making wonderful hot meals & hosting family get togethers at her home every holiday.

Jo Ann is survived by her daughters, Rhonda Treadwell of Kyle & Vickie Hopkins of Inez; granddaughters: Whitney Treadwell of Edna, & Megan Luchak of New Braunfels; grandson: Collin Hopkins of Katy; nephews Steven of San Antonio & Lonnie Jansky of Ezzell; & 3 Great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Victor Leon Jansky, daughter, Angela Leann Jansky, sister, Wanda Tangorra, brother, Freddie Tarver, and grandson, Mason Hopkins.

“We will always cherish the memories & the love you gave us; you were the best grandmother a granddaughter could have ever wished for and this isn't goodbye, just a see you later.”

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2020, at 11:00 am at Morales Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Jackson County Happy Tails Animal Shelter, 1787 US Highway 59 N., Edna Tx, 77957. Headstone fund donations may also be sent to Oaklawn Funeral Home.

July 22, 1965 – February 16, 1976

 

Edna—Funeral services for Angela Leann Jansky, 10, of Edna will be held at 10 a. m. Thursday from the Slavik Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. F. H. Linpleman and the Rev. W. J. Johnson officiating.

 

Burial will be in Memory Gardens of Edna. Pallbearers will be Walter Utz, E. B. Lowery, Frank Goldman, Walter Dollar, Luther Hamilton and D. J .Jordan.

 

Angela Leann was born July 22, 1965, in Wharton, and was a fifth grade student in Sam Houston School here. She was a member of the Morales Baptist Church. She died in a Galveston hospital Monday after a long illness with a kidney disease.

 

Surviving are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Jansky of Edna; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Tarver of Edna and Mr. and Mrs. Victor Jansky of Hallettsville; and two sisters, Ronda and Vickey of Edna.

A wedding of much interest in this section took place this morning at 7 o'clock when Gus Appelt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Otto Appelt and Miss Gertrude Jansky, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Jansky, were married at the Sacred Heart Church by Rev. A. Mathis. Witnesses were Mr. and Mrs. Norman Fehrenkamp. After a wedding breakfast, served at the home of the bride's parents Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Jansky of Rt. 5, the happy couple left for San Antonio on their honeymoon trip.

The bride was attractively attired in a wedding frock of beige georgette with accessories to match. Her going-away costume was a becoming beige flat crepe suit.

The bride is the youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Jansky, a pretty young lady who posses a sweet and likeable disposition. She has been a saleslady at Bucek's Store for some time, and has made scores of friends.

The groom is a young man of sterling qualities, and is employed in the Theatre Confectionery.

The happy couple will make their home in Mrs. N. Kroschel's apartment. Their many friends will join us in extending congratulations and best wishes for a long and happy married life.

Gertrude Appelt

Hallettsville--Mrs. Gertrude Appelt, 86, of Hallettsville, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 1992.

She was born March 4, 1906, in Lavaca County to the late John W. and Mary Vasut Jansky. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Hallettsville and a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.

Survivors: foster son, Harvey Wayne Jahn of Hallettsville; and brothers, Joe Jansky and Victor Jansky of Hallettsville.

Preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Gus W. Appelt; four sisters; and three brothers.

Rosary: 9:30 a. m Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Funeral Mass at 10 a. m., the Rev. Celestino Say officiating.

Burial: Sacred Heart Cemetery in Hallettsville.

The body will lie in state at the Kubena Funeral Home until 9 a. m. at which time it will be taken to the church for services.

Gus W. Appelt

Hallettsville--Gus W. Appelt, 78, of Hallettsville, died at 11:50 p. m. Friday in a local nursing home.

He was born Oct. 31, 1905, in Lavaca County. He was a retired, longtime Hallettsville businessman married to Gertrude Jansky on April 17, 1928, in Hallettsville.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Oldtimers Baseball Association and the Hallettsville Golf Association.

The body will lie in state at Kubena Funeral Home until 3 p. m. Sunday and then transported to Sacred Heart Church with services at 4 p. m. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery with the Rev. Celestino Say officiating

Surviving are the wife and a foster son, Harvey Wayne Jahn of Seguin.

A rosary was recited Saturday evening by the parish at the funeral home.

A rosary will be recited at 3 p. m. Sunday at the church by the societies.
