Mrs. Katie Branch, Native of County, Is Buried Monday Funeral services were held at 5 p. m. Monday, at Allen Memorial Presbyterian Church for Mrs. Catherine “Katie’ Branch, 79, a well-known native of Jackson County. Rev. Collis McKinney of the Presbyterian church officiated. Interment was in the Edna Cemetery. Pallbearers were Steele Simons, Thad Rose, Brownson Malsch, Bill Jones, Allison Gayle and Bill Hollingsworth. Mrs. Branch, a Life Member of the Edna Presbyterian church, was born in Jackson County on Nov. 2, 1882. She and the late Claude Branch were married in Edna on August 19, 1906. She is survived by one son, Claudius Branch of Edna, and several nieces and nephews.

Last Rites Slated For Edna Banker Edna—Funeral services for Claudius Branch, 71, civic leader, banker and former Jackson County official, will be held at 11 a. m. Thursday in the Edna Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Lloyd Nixon and the Rev. Richard Stone officiating. Burial will be in Edna Memory Gardens under direction of the Jackson County Funeral Service. In lieu of the usual remembrances, the family said those who desire can make memorials to the Edna Presbyterian Church or to the Heart Fund. Mr. Branch, member of a pioneer county family, was born in Edna March 11, 1908. He attended the Schreiner Institute, and later served in the Seabees during World War II. He was county treasurer during the early 1940s, and in December of 1945 was appointed county tax assessor collector, a post he held until 1957 when he joined the Jackson County State Bank as a junior vice president. He had advanced to senior vice president when he retired, and still was a director of the bank. He also was active in church and civic activities, and was a longtime elder in the Presbyterian Church here, still serving in that capacity at his death. He also still was active as a director of the Lavaca-Navidad River Authority. Mr. Branch formerly served several terms as a director of the Mid-Coast Water Development Board, and the South Texas Chamber of Commerce Board. He was a charter board member and president several terms fo the Edna Hospital District; was chairman of the county Red Cross chapter many years, and chairman several years for United Fund and March of Dimes campaigns. He also was a charter member and 25-year member of the Edna Volunteer Fire Department. He formerly was a member of the Lions Club, president two terms; held several offices in the American Legion post, and served as a district Boy Scout commissioner. He had served on the city charter commission, and in 1965 was voted “Man of the Year” by the chamber of commerce. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Fleming Branch of Edna. Pallbearers will be Craig Dickey, Thad Rose, Steele Simons, George Buhler, Allison Gayle, H. J. Dahlstrom, Callaway Vance and Lon Drusher.

Elizabeth Fleming Branch Edna—Elizabeth Fleming Branch, 87, of Edna, died Sunday, June 13, 1999. She was born April 1, 1912, to the late Oliver and Rintha Fleming. She was a homemaker and a Presbyterian. Preceded in death by: husband, Claudius Branch; and sister, Juanita Fleming Drushel. Graveside services will be 2 p. m. Tuesday at Memory Gardens of Edna, the Rev. Nancy White officiating. Burial will be at Memory Gardens, Slavik Funeral Home, Edna, 782-2152.
