Raymond David Zipp, M. D., of Edna died Monday, March 12, 2001, at the age of 92.

A beloved Edna physician, Dr. Zipp was born June 7, 1908 in New Braunfels, Texas to the late Rudolph and Frieda Timmerman Zipp. He was a 1925 graduate and valedictorian of Seguin High School. He attended The University of Texas at Austin for his premedical training and graduated from The University of Texas Medical School at Galveston in 1940 at age 21. His academic work earned him the coveted Alpha Omega gold key, a symbol of honor in the medical profession.

Following one year internship at St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, Kansas, Dr. Zipp began his medical practice Edna in 1931. Before a hospital was built in Jackson County, he frequently used the newly built Detar Hospital in Victoria for his patients, In 1942 the Zipp Clinic, located across the street from the Jackson County Courthouse, opened its doors. During World War II he maintained three hospital rooms, a medical laboratory and an x-ray room in the Zipp Clinic as well as maintaining a home office.

Dr. Zipp never tired of his lifelong hobby of fishing. He traveled the word extensively and was fluent in German and Spanish.

His professional memberships included the American Medical Association and the Texas Medical Association. He was a member of Edna Presbyterian Church.

Dr. Zipp is survived by daughter, Valerie Zipp Parker and son-in-law, Gerald Parker, of Victoria and Daughter, Sharon Marie Zipp of Edna and three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by wife, Marie Vance Zipp of Edna; brother, Roy Zipp, and sister, Etelka Zipp Bretzke, both of New Braunfels; and nephew, Dr. Glenn Foy Zipp of New Braunfels.

Honorary pallbearers: Dr. Bruce Bauknight, Callaway Vance, John T. Vance, Dr. Roy Aimone, Steele Simons, Bertha Dell McDowell, Bill Buchanan, Sr., Michael Koch, Donald Anderson, A. D. Hines, and Arnell Jones.

Graveside services will be held at Memory Gardens, Edna, at 10:00 a. m., Thursday, March 15th, with memorial services following at Edna Presbyterian Church at 11:00 a. m. with the Reverend Jim David presiding. Slavik Funeral Home, Edna, 782-2152.

Marie Vance Zipp

Edna—Marie Vance Zipp, 73, of Edna died Wednesday in a Victoria hospital following a short illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Friday at the Edna Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Harry Johnson, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in Memory Gardens of Edna Cemetery under direction of Jackson County Funeral Service.

Mrs. Zipp, a retired homemaker and daughter of a pioneer Jackson County family, was born July 29, 1911, to John Thomas and Lillian Callaway Vance Sr. of Austin. The family moved to Edna in 1912.

Surviving are her husband, Dr. Raymond D. Zipp of Edna; two daughters, Sharon Zipp and Valerie Parker, both of Edna; a sister, Mildred Schade of Edna; two brothers, Callaway and John T. Vance Jr., both of Edna; and three grandchildren.
