Funeral services for Dr. James Cole Dobbs, 75, prominent Cuero citizen, were held Sunday morning at 9 o’clock from the residence, the Rev. John P. Minter, Presbyterian minister, officiating. Burial was in Edna. Dr. Dobbs died unexpectedly Friday evening in a local hospital. The deceased had been a resident of Cuero since 1919, coming here shortly after being discharged from the armed services in which he had served for three years. Prior to that he practiced medicine at Crowley, La., and at Ganado. He was born April 7, 1877 in Mississippi where he grew to manhood. Following his graduation from high school, Dr. Dobbs entered Baylor University at Waco and after his graduation from there entered Texas Medical School, and later the Tennessee Medical school in his training for the medical profession. In 1907 he married Miss Eba Horton at Edna. Dr. Dobbs was active in medical organizations of South Texas, and was a member of the DeWitt County Medical Society. He was also a leader in the Presbyterian Church. He served as president of the Cuero Rotary Club, the chamber of commerce, and from 1927 to 1941 served as president of the Cuero Independent School District. At the time of his death he was acting in the capacity of City Health Officer. Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Mrs. E. C. Zeorian, and one granddaughter, Joan Elizabeth. Pall bearers were, Bill Young, Bill Combs, Charles Ladd, Roy McWilliams, Gayle Oliver, Pat Dunn, Alfred Friar, and Ira Wilkes. The Cuero Record, August 13, 1952 Dr. J. C. Victoria, Texas, November 23.—Mrs. J. C. Dobbs of Ganado was brought in Tuesday night by her husband, Dr. Dobbs, for a consultation of doctors. She died at the residence of Mrs. Emile Urban that night of hemorrhage, and the body was taken back to Ganado on yesterday. Houston Semi-Weekly Post, November 27, 1905
Funeral of Mrs. Dobbs. Edna. Texas,. November 23. The body of Mrs. J. J. Dodds arrived here today on the 12 o'clock train and was buried in the Edna cemetery. Mrs. Dobbs was the wife of Dr. J. C. Dobbs and resided in Ganado. They formerly lived in Edna and the doctor has a host of friends here to sympathize with him in his bereavement. Cuero—Services for Mrs. E. B. A. Horton Dobbs, 88, of Aurora, Colo. will be conducted at Freund Funeral Home at 2 p. m. Sunday. The Rev. C. Rogers McLane, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Graveside services will be held in Edna at 4 p. m. The Rev. George Crowfoot of Edna will officiate. Mrs. Dobbs, a former resident of Cuero, died in Aurora Thursday. She was born in Edna March 7, 1885. She attended Edna schools and graduated from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville. She married Dr. James Cole Dobbs in Edna Dec. 31, 1907. He died Aug. 8, 1952. While a resident of Cuero, Mrs. Dobbs was a member of the Hawthorne Club and the American Legion Auxiliary. She moved from Cuero to Aurora in 1960. Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Elmer C. Zeorian of Aurora, and a granddaughter, Miss Joan Zeorian of Dallas.
