Death claimed one of Jackson’s County’s oldest residents and one of Ganado’s most beloved ladies when Mrs. A. B. Mitchell passed away Thursday, March 4th. Mrs. Mitchell had been in poor health for the past year and had been confined to her bed for the past few months. Clara Adele Dunn was born March 6th, 1872, in Arcola, Louisiana. She was united in holy wedlock to Mr. Alex R. Mitchell at Goliad, October 28th, 1893. She came to Ganado as a bride. Ganado at that time being a flag stop and about all that it consisted of was one or two business houses. Mrs. Mitchell operated the Mitchell Hotel in Ganado for many years, tearing the building down and building the Mitchell Courts about ten years ago. Survivors are: Two children: Mr. Chas. A. Mitchell and Mrs. Fred Boepple, both of Ganado; six grandchildren and one great grand child. Funeral services were held in the Ganado Catholic Church with Rev. A. V. Maneth officiating, Saturday morning, March 6th—this being her 76th birthday. Pallbearers were: Messrs. Albert Strauss, Hugh McColloch, W. S. Hill, W. J. Dierschke, Chester Spencer and Louis Malcik. Interment was made in the Rogers Cemetery where a large crowd of sorrowing friends gathered to pay their last tribute of love and respect to their departed friend and neighbor. To the bereaved family we extend heartfelt sympathy.
