Edna—Mark Dewayne Anders, 41, of Edna, died Thursday, May 15, 1997. He was born June 4, 1955, in Victoria, to Herman and Louise Hilton Anders of Victoria. He was a farmer and was on the Board of Directors with Farmer’s Co-op Gin. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Active Youth Leader at the church where he also was an usher and chairman of the Van committee, Vanderbilt Farmer’s Co-op and Jackson County Fair Association. Survivors: wife, Mary Lou Bain Anders; daughter, Jennifer Anders of Edna; son, Jonathan Anders of Edna; parents; and sisters, Cindy Rogers and Ginger Lorance, both of Victoria. Services will be held at 10 a. m. today at First Baptist Church of Edna, the Rev. Jim Gilbert officiating. Burial will be at the Bain Family Cemetery in Edna. Slavik Funeral Home, Edna, 782-2152. Pallbearers: Darrell Sklar, I. C. Sklar Jr., Morris Gassner, Terry Tipton, C. E. Bergstrom Jr., Doug Anders, Wayne Kucera and Rick Nraun. Honorary pallbearers: Ike Peterson, Ray Cracknell, Roger Ross, Lonnie Gregorcyk, Patrick Andel, Tim Kahlich, Albert Andel, Joe McClanahan and Dan Stary. Memorials: First Baptist Youth Fund or donor’s choice.

On November 22, 2005, Bernice Loraine Bain, one of God’s “special” children, went to her eternal home in heaven to be reunited with her parents, R. T. Bain and Helen Tucker Bain, at the age of 51. Loraine was born on December 12, 1953, in Ganado, Texas, a Down’s Syndrome baby. She lived the rest of her life at home with her family in the Arenosa Community in Jackson County. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Edna, Texas. One of her greatest joys was her “Special Friends” Sunday School Class. She is survived by one brother, Milton Bain of Edna; three sisters, Nelda Siecko of Yoakum, Barbara Sowell, her loving caregiver, and Mary Lou Hunt, both of Edna; eight nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Ike Peterson, Jonathan Anders, Tommy Sowell, Brent Blanar, Ralph McClendon, and Wade Sowders. We would like to thank Dr. Bruce Bauknight and Donna, Girley Home Health, and Hospice for the loving care they showed Loraine in her final days, and to all the family and friends who touched her life in love over the years. A memorial service was held at Oaklawn Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Gary Covin at 4:00 p. m. on Wednesday afternoon. Burial followed at the Bain Family Cemetery.

Milton Louis Bain, 81, of Edna passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 at his home in Edna, surrounded by his loving family. There will be a visitation on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at 9:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church followed by a Funeral Service at 10:00 am with Pastor Paul Kaiser officiating. Burial will follow at the Bain Family Cemetery also in Edna. Milton was born in Louise to R.T. and Helen Tucker Bain on Monday, December 12, 1938. He was a graduate of Edna High School. On Sunday, August 27, 1961 Milton married the love of his life Marjorie Ann Kuretsch in Ganado. He worked for HEB for seven years and then DuPont for twenty-six years. After retiring from DuPont, he worked at ADM Nutrition for nineteen years selling feed. He served in the Army from October 1960 to April 1961 and continued in the National Guard with Summer Camps and monthly meetings until 1968. He served as the Jackson County Youth Fair President from 1981 to 1989 and again in 1994 to 1995. He served on the Swine Committee for several years before becoming president. He also served as the St. Paul Church Properties Board Chairman for many years. Milton loved the outdoors and working outside in the yard, garden or pasture. He also loved working with his cattle and hogs for years. Milton has been preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Loraine Bain and his brother-in-law, Mark Anders. He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Marjorie Bain of Edna, son, Dennis and Marta Bain of Inez, daughter, Shari and Brent Blanar of Pearland, sisters, Nelda and Fred Siecko of Yoakum, Barbara and Larry Sowell, and Mary Lou and Wayne Hunt of Edna, granddaughters, Shelby Blanar of Pearland, Katie Blanar of Corpus Christi, Brandi and Josh Swint of El Campo and grandson Brad and Jen Bain of Leander, and great-grandsons Hunter and Fischer Swint of El Campo and Brayden Bain of Leander. Pallbearers will be his nephews, Jonathan Anders, Justin Bonnot, Kevin Garraway, Ralph McClendon, Pat McCormack and Tommy Sowell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jose Galvan, Gene Kallus, Marvin Lesikar, Rex McCord, Robert Nagel, Timmy Prohasks, Karl Reckaway, Don Sachtleben, Clarence Schomburg, Darrell Sklar, Shane Sklar, Doug Tise, Lynn Utz and Steven Whitehead. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donation be made to Hospice of South Texas, 605 E. Locust Ave., Victoria, TX 77901 or St. Paul Lutheran Church in Edna in Memory of Milton. Edna—Ross Thomas Bain, 78, of Edna, died Thursday in a local hospital following a long illness. A native of Lampasas, he was born Mar. 10, 1909, to the late Claude B. and Maggie Smart Bain. A retired farmer/rancher, Mr. Bain served as director of the Jackson County Soil Conservation District for several years. He also served on the Board of Trustees of the Edna ISD, and was director of the Jackson Electric Co-Op for 26 years. Funeral services will be held at 3 p. m. Friday at the Slavik Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Joe Rubac officiating. Burial will follow the services in the Bain Family Cemetery. Pallbearers will be C. E. Bergstrom, Ira Sklar, Herman and Gus Anders, Richard Cosper and Jerry Anderson. Honorary pallbearers will be William Fitch, Gravis Shomate, Grant Crolley, W. C. and A. G. Simons, Chester Hicks, Homer Glaze, Jerry Peters, Owen Kolle and employees and directors of the Jackson Electric Co-Op. Surviving are his wife, Helen Tucker Bain of Edna; four daughters, Nelda Siecko of Yoakum, Barbara Sowell, Mary Lou Anders and Loraine Baine of Edna; a son, Milton Bain of Edna; a sister, Locan Henderson of Victoria; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Morgan Bain.

Larry and Barbara Sowell Larry and Barbara Sowell were High School Sweethearts, married for 60 years who were called home by their Lord and Savior, eight days apart. Barbara passed on January 23rd, 2024, followed by Larry on January 31st, 2024. Barbara Elizabeth Sowell was born on September 5, 1946 in Jackson County to Ross Thomas "R.T." and Helen Elizabeth Tucker Bain, she was the third of five children. Larry Gene Sowell was born on August 14, 1944 in Jackson County to O.W. and Dell Whittington Sowell, the first of four children. Larry and Barbara were married on December 15, 1963. Together they had two children and raised their family in Edna, Texas. Barbara worked for many years for Jackson County State Bank and later for El Toro Grain Elevators. She retired to care for her youngest sister, Loraine Bain, until her death. Barbara was a loving and caring wife, mother, MeMe, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend to many. Larry worked in the oilfield for years and retired from Alcoa after thirty years of service. He loves sports and coached little league for years. Larry also played on a softball league and bowling league for many years.. He was a loving husband, father PawPaw, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend to many. Larry and Barbara loved traveling to Colorado and spending time with family. Larry and Barbara are preceded in death by their parents, Barbara's brother and sister, Milton Bain and Loraine Bain. They are also preceded by brothers-in-law; Mark Andreas, Frank Tresner and sister-in-law, Clara Gates, their nephew Kacey Sowell and their beloved granddaughter Molly Elizabeth McCormack. They are survived by their daughter Tammy Sowell McCormack (Pat), son Tommy Sowell (Kris) and grandchildren Kyle Sowell (Jessica), Megan Sowell, Brittney Sowell and Billy McCormack (Risa), They are also survived by five great-granddaughters and one great-grandson. Larry and Barbara are also survived by Barbara's sisters Nelda Siecko (Fred) and Mary Lou Anders Hunt (Wayne). Larry's sisters and brother Brenda Theilin (Ted), Beth Grimes and Jerry Sowell; and sister-in-law Marjorie Bain and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to Sandra Kelly for her loving and compassionate care she gave to both Barbara and Larry. We would also like to thanks Dr. Mehran Nezhad, the ladies at Soul Food Thursday's and Hospice of South Texas & the Dornburg Center of Compassion for their exceptional care of both Larry and Barbara. The family would also like to thank Ronnie, Brenda, Jr., and Leah Latimer for being the best neighbors and always helping Mom and Dad out whenever they needed it. You were all truly Heaven sent. We would also like to thank our father, Larry, for taking such good care of our mother while hiding his pain and illness for as long as he could from us. He is our hero! Larry and Barbara will be laid to rest together in a private family service at the Bain Family Cemetery.
