First Grade: Charlie Jackson, Ralph
Porche Friday afternoon we had some interesting debates given by the English classes. One of the subjects for debate was, Resolved: That the State Should Pass a Law Requiring of Every Citizen a High School Education or its Equivalent. Lester Porche and Dannie Mae Parr composed the affirmative and Ernest Thomas and Oliver Parr the negative team. Both teams brought out some good points, but the affirmative team was successful in bringing home the victory. The other question debated was, Resolved: That it is Better to Live in the Country Than in Town. Elizabeth Johns and Leona Porche composed the affirmative team and Irene Paul and Virginia Winfrey composed the negative team. Each side presented some good points, but the negative team won. The debating teams did well as this was their first time to participate in debates. Kyle Paul gave an interesting report on the life of Abraham Lincoln. After recess in the afternoon, we had a Valentine box, which was enjoyed by all. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Airhart and family were visitors in Mr. Charlie Marthiljohni home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. John Meador were visitors in the J. C. Jetton home Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Paul of Victoria were visitors in the W. F. and K. L. Paul and Oscar McNeil homes Sunday.

Among the Schools Blair Entertainment Blair gave a public entertainment November 25th. They had a large crowd, the house was packed to its full capacity. The program was real good and was enjoyed by all present. The program was as follows:
1. A Good Thanksgiving Following the county superintendent’s talk, Miss Olia C. Knopp, the principal of the Blair School, gave a very interesting talk on her plans of cooperation to help put over the county school program. The faculty gave a box of candy and a neat sum was raised from it. They also sold cakes, coffee and hot chocolate. After the refreshments the young people played games to their hearts content. This school has two very capable, progressive teachers, Miss Olia C. Knopp and Miss Maxine Whitley. They are making this school a social center. This makes three or four entertainments they gave this year. They give public entertainments—for the young people and play the old fashioned games which is a fine recreation for the young people. The Blair school has only sixteen pupils, but they are a live, wide awake, and progressive school and they will make their mark this year in the way of school activities. This school will be heard of many times before the year is out. Both teachers appreciate the new educational program and are doing all in their power to cooperate in making it a success. We could not ask for any better cooperation from any school than we are getting from Blair.

A meeting was held at the Blair school house on Monday evening, January 20th, 1936, for the purpose of organizing a Parent-Teacher Association. The county school superintendent, Mr. I. T. Taylor, was present. He entertained us with a very interesting talk showing that Christianity has developed as a result of education. He also pointed out the many benefits to be derived in a community from a Parent-Teacher organization. We thank Mr. Taylor very much for the many services he has rendered our school and community, and hope to have him with us again soon. Several musical numbers were rendered by Herman Schneider, Paul Gerdes, Regina Hollis and the Misses Gerdes. These young people are real musicians and we appreciate their entertainment. On account of bad weather only a small crowd was present, but the efforts at organization were met with a ready response. The officers elected were as follows:
Miss Cathryn Knopp—President The entertainment committee appointed was: Mrs…. Johns, Mrs…., Mrs. H. Hirschauser. Our organization now has a sum of nineteen dollars and thirty cents in the treasury with which we expect to fence our school yard. We are expecting much benefit from our P. T. A. in the way of social entertainment for our membership and improvements in our school and school yard.—Contributed.

Among the Schools Blair The Blair school has a very enthusiastic group of children and a very progressive teacher. It is always a great pleasure to visit this school to see the good work that is being done. Their school room is very beautifully decorated with window boxes full of flowers. The walls are decorated with pictures and the windows draped in a drapery that makes the room stand out as a very attractive place for the children to go to school. Miss Cathryn Knopp is not a teacher who beautifies her room just a few days before it is to be judged. She keeps her room ready to be judged at all times. The Blair P. T. A. has some wonderful plans for their school yard beautification. They have their cedar posts to fence the school yard. They are planning to trim and white wash the beautiful oaks in the school yard. In one obscure corner will be located a beautiful cacti bed. The children and teachers demanded a talk from the county superintendent which was given. The pupils are very interesting listeners. It is a real pleasure to visit the Blair school as it gives me a great inspiration.

This district has 50 scholastics; 26 whites and 30 negroes. It has not operated a school for its whites since 1936. Edna has transported its children during this 12-year period and provided the same educational advantages offered children of our district. It has operated two seven-months colored schools. Blair district sold its white school building two years ago.

In Blair Common School District--Mt. Olive Colored School House. It was necessary to use the Mount Olive Colored School House for election purposes in the Blair District since the law provides that the election be held in a public building and since the White school building has been sold and is being used as a private dwelling.
