C 7th Cavalry 1st Cavalry Division Vietnam Odessa American November 28, 1967 pg. 3 7 MORE TEXANS DIE IN VIETNAM Washington (AP) - Seven casualties among fighting men from Texas were listed Monday by the Defense Department, including 4 killed in action, one changed from missing to dead and 2 dead from non-enemy causes. Killed in Action were: Army - ,,,Sgt, Leonard L. Bevels, husband of Mrs. Ruby F. Bevels, 2006 South East St., Sherman.... KIN OF RAVENNA COUPLE KILLED IN VIETNAM Sgt. Leonard L. Bevels of Sherman, son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. O.W. White of Ravenna, was killed in action in Vietnam Thanksgiving day, his wife and parents have been advised by the Defense Department. Sgt. Bevels enlisted in the Army 8 years ago and was serving with the First Cavalry Division, Airmobile Company C and had been in Vietnam since October. The Sherman Negro had married Miss Ruby White September 4, 1964. They had a son, Leonard Leroy Bevels, Jr. w who was 2 and never received a word of the birth of a daughter, Brigitte, November 22. The family has been notified the body would reach Sherman in about a week. The Sherman Democrat November ?, 1967 pg. 14 MONDAY SERVICES SET FOR SOLDIER KILLED IN VIETNAM Funeral services were held Monday afternoon in Payne Chapel, AME Church for Sgt. Leonard Bevels, 25, at 2006 S. East, who was kiilled in Vietnam November 23. Rev. O.A. Mitchell, pastor of the church, conducted the services. Burial was in West Hill Cemetery, directed by Everett Funeral Home. The body arrived in Sherman Friday afternoon. Military rites were accorded at the graveside.
