West Hill Cemetery Sherman, Texas Mausoleum Louis Versel 1862 - 1926 Dallas Morning News 29 Dec 1926 pg 2 Louis Versel, Kidd-Key Voice and Organ Teacher and Composer Dies Sherman, Texas Dec 28, Special to the News - Louis Versel , 72 years old .... for twenty-five years distinguished composer and instructor of voice and organ in Kidd-Key Conservatory, died here Tuesday morning at 4 o'clock of double pneumonia, following the death of his wife, Sarah Holt Versel, by one month. Mr. Versel was born of artistic French family in French Switzerland. He was a nephew of the French philosopher and theologian, August Sabier of the Sarbonne in Paris. Mr Versel is survived by two ... distinguished in art, one a violinist and the other a painter and sculptress. He was graduated in voice , piano, organ., ---- and counterpoint at the ... conservator in Frankfort-on- ... Germany, where the family lived for many years. His musical education was received under such eminent masters as Raff Ivan Knarr and Rubenstein. Mr. Versel was a composer of distinction, having composed many songs and much music for the piano, orchestra, violin and pipe organ. The American publishers of Mr. Versel's compositions are Schbert & Co, and G. Schirmer of New York. Many of his songs have been published in several languages. Among Mr. Versel's most distinguished pupils is Ethel Rader, who attained distinction in Eastern and European musical circles and who was, at the time of his death, a co-worker with him in Kidd-Key Conservatory. He came to Kidd-Key Conservatory direct from Europe. In 1-- he married Mrs. Sarah Holt, who was the daughter of the late Mrs. L. A. Kidd-Key and who was for a number of years an eminent voice teacher in Kidd-Key Conservatory. Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. S. W. Williams, pastor of the Travis Street Methodist Church. A private funeral attended only by members of the family and the Kidd-Key faculty be held. The nearest American relatives who survive Mr. Versel are Dr. and Mrs. J. H. Holt and Edwin Kidd, all of Sherman. The body will be place in a crypt at the Sherman Mausoleum Dallas Morning News 30 December 1926 pg 2 Sherman, Texas, Dec. 29. - Funeral services for Louis Versel, who died Tuesday following an attack of double pneumonia, were held Wednesday. The Rev. S W. Williams of the Travis Street Methodist Church officiated. A private service was held, attended only by members of the family and the Kidd-Key faculty. Mr. Versel had been a member of the Kidd-Key faculty for twenty-five years. The body was placed in a crypt at the Sherman Mausoleum. Pallbearers were R. G. Piner, John Marshall, John Reid, George Livingston, Dr. Quade and George Rigsby.
