Judge Rice Maxey, 86, one of the best known attorneys in Texas, who has made his home in Grayson County for more than 40 years and a resident of Texas for 60 years, died at his home in Sherman Sunday. Born in Tompkinsville, Kentucky, the son of Dr. A.H. and Lucy Maxey, he came with his parents and seven brothers to Texas and located near Plano, Collin County in 1873.  He taught school in that county and in Dallas county and later studied law, and after passing his examination, settled Sherman to practice law.  He served as judge of the 15th District Court, serving one term and part of another, resigning to enter private practice.
Surviving are his widow; a daughter, Mrs. D.P. Webster, Dallas; two sisters, Mrs. J.P. Leslie, Sherman, and Mrs. Sewell Brown, Velasco.  A brother, Judge J.B. Maxey, lives at Atoka.  Six grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive.
