Saturday, March 24, 1906 p. 8 Sherman, Tex., March 21 - A message received by his family in this city announced the death at Butte, Montana, last night of Murray Kerr, son of Mr. and Mrs. John S. Kerr of North Broughton street. The Whitewright Sun Thursday, October 8, 1925 pg.9 PROMINENT TEXAS NURSERYMAN DIES Sherman, October 6 - John S. Kerr, 76, prominent Texas nursery man known throughout the Southwest, died at his home here Sunday morning of heart disease. Kerr was a native of Tennessee but came to Texas in 1850 and before the Civil War was interseted [sic] in horticulture. He served 4 years in the Confederate Army and after the war engaged in the nursery business near McKinney. Forty-five years ago he move to Sherman and had been engaged in the nursery business all the time. Mr. Kerr is survived by his widow, Mrs. Amelia Kerr, and the following children: Mrs. Lewis Thompson of Houston; Mrs. Robert E. Vinson, wife of the former president of Texas University; Miss Minnie Kerr, connected with the Hockaday School at Dallas; and Mrs. W.B. Munson, Jr., Denison. A son, Murray Kerr, died in Montana in 1905. Funeral and burial services were held in Sherman Monday afternoon.
