Robert Lee Kelly 1883 - 1961 May 22, 1930 Business Man Passes Away C. A. Kelly Was Prominent in Civic Circles of Sherman for Years C. A. Kelly, aged 72 years, a native of Grayson county and for many years prominent in business affairs of Sherman, died at his home at 711 Washington avenue Wednesday night. Funeral services were held from the residence at 4 o'clock Thursday afternoon with Dr. T. A. Wharton, pastor emeritus, and Dr. Conway T. Wharton, pastor of the First Presbyterian church officiating. Interment was in the Sherman mausoleum. Dannel-Scott company had charge of arrangements. Mr. Kelly is survived by his wife, one son, Lee, and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. E. K. Taylor of Van Alstyne, John Kelly of Stanton, Sam Kelly of Harrold and J. L. Kelly of Van Alstyne. He was born one mile south of Van Alstyne Oct. 28, 1858, the oldest child of J. M. and P. A. Kelly, and a descendant of Collin McKinney. He was married to Miss Katherine Hughes, Feb. 25, 1883, and to this union was born one sone, Lee. Until 1894, Mr. Kelly made his home in Van Alstyne and from there he came to Sherman, where he had since made his home. For the past thirty-three years he had been connected with the Herkert-Meisel Trunk company of St. Louis, traveling in a territory including North Texas, Southern Oklahoma and Western Arkansas until forced to leave the road due to ill health. His constant interest in his home community was manifest throught his support of every movement he considered a forward step. He was a director in the Commercial National bank here until its consolidation with the Merchants andf Planters National bank recently. He was a trustee of the Sherman mansoleum and a member of First Presbyterian church. Active pall bearers were named as follows: J. S. Eubank, B. B. Wilbanks, C. B. Dorchester, Eugene Cherry, Will Leslie, W. G. Richardson, john Tulloch, Walter O. Jones and G. S. Murphy.
