DIED
The sad intelligence of the death of Mrs. L.M. Grizzard, nee Lulu
Brown, at Abilene, reached this city this morning, and has cast a gloom
over her many friends in this city. It was here that the deceased

he who has always been a kind and loving husband. Her father and
mother, Capt. T.J. Brown and wife, were with her at the last moment,
and she passed away in the presence of those who loved her best, although
no one knew her but to respect and admire. Her remains will be brought
to this city tomorrow and on the following day will be laid away in the
quiet city of the dead. The Register offers its sympathies to the bereaved
parents and relatives in this,
their hour of sorrow.

Sherman Daily Democrat
5 July 1886Mrs.
Lula Grizzard, wife of Dr. Grizzard, and daughter of T.J. Brown
and wife of this city, departed this life at her home in Abilene,
Texas,
on the morning of the 3rd of June 1886. Lula was born in
McKinney,
Texas, Sept. 13th 1852, and it has been my privilege to know her from
infancy
on to the time of her departure a few days since. As a child she was
loving
and obedient, always anxious to please her parents, teachers,
sisters
and schoolmates; she became a general favorite. At the early age
of thirteen and a half years she made up her mind to live for the
Savior,
and obeyed his command by being baptized, making a profession of
religion
under Elder Sweeney's preaching. How well she has kept her vows
to
her God, more than one can testify. It was a pleasure for her to
find the destitute and ________ to their wants, to visit the sick and
relieve
their sufferings, and to do good wherever she could; always ready when
called upon to assist the poor. Five years ago last November, she
became the wife of her now sorrowing and almost heart broken husband,
who,
with his lonely little boy, are left to mourn the loss of a
devoted wife and mother, one that was always watchful and tender.
But, kind husband, what is your loss is her gain, for now that body that
was so racked with pain and suffering is entirely free and at rest by the
dear spirit with God, who gave it. Be steadfast in the faith and
you will meet in the sweet bye and bye. Dear father and mother, her
place cannot be filled in your aching hearts, but you have the consolation
of feeling that you did your duty in her early training and your rewards,
"Heaven is her home." What more can you ask, only that God give you
strength to bear the separation. Sisters, tender, loving and kind,
your sisterly bond is broken to your angel sister, leaving your devoted
circle and joining the loved ones gone before her to that happy home.
Elder Dimmitt, who baptized our departed sister, and united her
in marriage, also officiated her funeral. His remarks were
most excellent and his emotion so great that at times he could not speak
for we all loved her deeply. But she has gone from our ___________________________.
She was ready and willing, for she had said to me, "Mother will care
for my baby boy. I know my dear husband loves me deeply, but he can
get along, for oh, I suffer so much, death will be preferable." All
that loving friends and devotion counted was done but death loves a shining
mark. Let us, one and all, that loved her so well, strive the more
to meet her in her happy home.
Rest, then dear one, in peace from suffering and from sin.
