West Hill Cemetery Sherman, Texas James R. Martin 1939 - 2009 James R. "Jim" Martin of Sherman, 69 year-old retired Johnson and Johnson employee, passed away Tuesday morning, June 23, 2009 at Wilson N. Jones Medical Center. Services were 10:30 AM Friday, June 26, 2009 in the Hopkins Memorial Chapel at First United Methodist Church. Dr. Thomas Peel of the church officiated and the burial followed in the veterans section of West Hill Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home. Jim was born August 31, 1939 in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of Arthur Ray Martin and Thelma Anderson Martin. He was reared in Kansas City where he attended public schools and graduated from high school in 1956. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force soon after graduation and received his basic training at an air base in Kansas. He was later transferred to Perrin Air Force Base in Sherman-Denison where he was stationed most of the time until his honorable discharge in 1960. He began a forty year career with the Johnson & Johnson Sherman plant when it opened in 1963, working his way up to manager of the shipping and receiving department until his retirement when the plant closed in 2003. Jim enjoyed watching sports, especially the Kansas City Chiefs and the Kansas City Royals. He also was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers except when they played his Kansas City teams. He loved music and enjoyed singing and simply hanging out with his friends. He was a "history buff" who enjoyed learning history either by reading books or watching the History Channel on television. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Sherman. He is survived by three daughters, Pamela A. Klas and her husband Steve of Van Alstyne, Patricia Demers and her husband Joseph and Cindy Martin, all of Sherman; sister, Joann Vancleave of Overland Park, Kansas; four grandchildren, Adrian Michael Demers and Olivia Katrina Demers of Sherman, Jonathan Pratt and wife Brittney of Conroe, Texas and Justin Pratt and wife Angie of Sherman; three step grandchildren, Jason Klas and wife Jaime of Sherman, Jeremy Klas of Pottsboro and Joni Collier of Shreveport, La.; also survived by two great greatchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, Arthur Ray Martin, mother, Thelma Martin Baughman, a grandson, Jared Paul Pratt in February of 2009, a brother, Edward Baughman and sister Laverne Baughman.
