Hulen Ray Chandler, Sr. of Sherman, age 71, went home to be with his heavenly father on Sunday evening, August 5, 2007 at his residence. 
Services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 8, 2007 in the Waldo Funeral Home Chapel. Brother Roland Ouellette of East Sherman Baptist Church will conduct the services and the burial will follow in the veterans section of West Hill Cemetery. Full military graveside honors will be accorded by an honor guard from Fort Hood Army Base. 
Hulen was born October 17, 1935 near Culleoka, Texas, the son of the late Mark C. and Maggie Mae Welborn Chandler. He attended school in Culleoka and was valedictorian of his senior class in Princeton, Texas in 1953. He attended Decatur Baptist College in Decatur, Texas. Hulen married Alice L. Smith on June 24, 1960 at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, where they were both in the U.S. Army. 
Hulen spent twenty years with the U.S. Army with overseas tours in Germany, Japan and Viet Nam, and several state aide assignments as an X-Ray Technician. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1978 and that same year he and his family moved to Sherman where he worked as an X-Ray Technician at Wilson N. Jones Hospital. He retired from the hospital in 1997 due to ill health.
He was a member at East Sherman Baptist Church since 1978 and had served as a deacon since 1981. For fifteen years he volunteered to be a minister to the residents at Chapel of Care Nursing Home in Sherman. 
He is survived by his wife, Alice L. Chandler of Sherman; son, Hulen Ray Chandler, Jr. and his wife Virginia Hughes-Chandler of Sherman; brothers, Nathan Chandler and wife Pansy of Greenville, Texas and Hubert Chandler and wife Lou of Gordonville, Texas; sisters, Geneva Schultz of Wylie, Texas and Nadine Knowles of McKinney, Texas; brother-in-law, Ernest Hensley of Wylie, Texas; also several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great- great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Katherine Mae and Susan Marie, his parents, and two brothers and four sisters. 
The family will receive friends at Waldo Funeral Home from 6:30 to 8:00 PM Tuesday evening. 
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Home Hospice of Grayson County, East Sherman Baptist Church or Western Heights Church of Christ.
