Hooker 26 December 1926 - 24 August 1998 SFC US Army WWII, Korea Purple Heart Betty Jo Hooker, 83 year-old homemaker of Sherman, passed away Sunday, August 3, 2008 at the Homestead of Denison. Graveside services were Thursday, August 7, 2008 at West Hill Cemetery. Rev. A. D. Kyle, Baptist minister of Sherman, officiatee and Betty Jo was laid to rest next to her husband in the veterans section of West Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home. Betty Jo was born March 26, 1925 in Denison, Texas, the daughter of Lurlie Lee Wright and Betty Welden Wright. She moved to Honey Grove, Texas at a young age where she attended schools and graduated from Honey Grove High School. She co-owned a restaurant in Honey Grove before moving to Sherman where she assembled bombs at Hardwick-Etter during World War II. She married A. R. "Cotton" Hooker on April 1, 1953 in Lawton, Oklahoma. She was a very good cook and enjoyed having family and friends in her home for meals. She also loved to grow roses and gardening and most importantly she loved spending time with her family. She was a member of Crutchfield Heights Baptist Church in Sherman. She is survived by two sons, Allen Hooker and wife, Susan, and Ronnie Hooker, all of Sherman; daughter, Serena Kennedy and husband, Gerald, of Denison; two grandchildren, Ashley Hooker and Geoffrey Hooker; brothers-in-law, Alton Hooker and Bill Stephens; sisters-in-law, Ruby Hooker, Clara Hembree and Marie Moore; many nieces and nephews and numerous very good friends who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in August of 1998, brothers, Weldon Lee Wright and Phillip "Scooter" Wright, and sister, Gladys Wright.
