Henry M. Hardy of Sherman, 83 year-old retired petroleum employee, passed away Tuesday morning, April 28, 2009 at the Homestead of Sherman. 
Services will be 10 AM Friday, May 1, 2009 at North Park Baptist Church. Rev. David Murphy of the church will officiate and the burial will follow at West Hill Cemetery. An Honor guard from the U.S. Naval Air Station Reserve Base in Fort Worth will conduct military graveside honors. Arrangements are under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home. 
Henry was born July 24, 1925 in Clay City, Illinois, the son of George F. Hardy and Jessie Proctor Hardy. He was a senior in high school at Clay City during World War II when he was drafted by the U.S. Navy on October 7, 1943 and completed his high school degree at a later date. He received his honorable discharge in February 1946 and immediately began working in the oil field business. He married Kathleen Hobbs on August 14, 1949 in Flora, Illinois. He was employed by Warren Petroleum Corp. for many years as a petroleum field operator in oil and gas production. The company eventually changed its name to Gulf Oil Co. and at the time of his retirement in 1987 it was known as Chevron Oil Co. 
Henry loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing and hunting, as well as wood carving. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed the times spent with his family. He and Kathleen moved from Kingfisher, Oklahoma to Sherman two years ago. 
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Hardy of Sherman; son, Mark Hardy and wife Valerie of Sherman; daughter, Kristi Leisher and husband John of Ulysses, Kansas; brother, Jake Hardy and sister Martha Schweppee, both of Flora, Illinois; 5 grandchildren, Kari Leisher, Eric Leisher, Brooke Hardy, Austin Hardy and Ryan Hardy; a great grandchild, Kenli Don Hardy. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother's Joe Hardy and Frank Hardy, and sister, Elizabeth Merriman. 
Pallbearers will be his son, Mark Hardy, son-in-law John Leisher, and grandsons Eric Leisher, Austin Hardy, Ryan Hardy and Bruce Ryan.
