Sherman - Donnie Pearl Stokes Boyd was born March 16, 1914 in a church family in Tyler, Smitn County, Texas, daughter of Mr. Willie and Mrs. Sadie Stokes.  Her parents' faith and love for the church instilled in her the love of Jesus Christ, which molded her faithfulness, humility, education, dedication and gift of sharing with her church and community.  Donnie was married to the late Mitchell Boyd.  They owned and operated Grayson Funeral Home until his death in 1970
She was a graduate of Emmett Scott High School in Tyler and her higher education included: Prairie View A&M College in Prairie View, Texas; Southeastern State University in Durant, Oklahoma; and Texas College in Tyler.  During her more than 40 years as a Texas Public School Teacher, she taught in Whitewright public schools, Pilot Point public schools, and 20 years in the Sherman public school system.
Mrs. Boyd was a faithful and loyal prayer warrior of St. John CME Church, where she served actively on the Stewardess Board.  She was a Sunday School teacher, Missionary Society member, trustee, former Board of Christian Education president, former chairperson of the Budding [sic] Committee, former CYF teacher, Lay Council and Founder and President of Heart to Heart Ministry.  In 2011 the fellowship hall of the church was named the Donnie Stokes Boyd Fellowship Hall in her honor.
Her civic affiliations include: The Daughters of Diane Federated Club of Sherman, NAACP, Home Hospice, R.S.V.P., voting judge precinct chairperson, a member of the Grayson County Retired Personnel Association, Life Member of the PTA, Texas State Teachers Association, National Education Association, Gamma Chi Zeta Chapter, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Delta Gamma Society, American Association of University Women.
Donnie Stokes Boyd, affectionately known as "Aunt Donnie", closed her eyes here on earth on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Texoma Medical Care in Sherman, after 98 blessed years of sharing her wisdom and love to all.  With wisdom and determination, she fought the good fight; she finished the race, and kept the faith.
Survivors are sisters, Grace Gregory of Tyler and Lois Hampton of Forney, Texas; nieces, nephews, cousins and many other good friends.
Life's pre'cis for Mrs. Boyd was held Saturday morning at St. John CME Church in Sherman.  Officiating was Rev. Dwight Thomas of God's House of Faith and Worship Center in Denison.  Rev. Steve A. Lewis and pastor of St. John was the eulogist.  Burial followed at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman.  James E. Smith, funeral director, had charge of arrangements.
