The Whitewright Sun Thursday, May 21, 1931 pg.7 Mrs. Mary E. Gattis, 65, died at 9:05 o'clock Monday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. F.N. Magers of Sherman. She resided in Whitewright for a number of years before moving to Sherman about 12 years ago. She was a native of Tennessee. The funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at the Dannel-Scott funeral home in Sherman. Rev. J.F. Fender of Whitewright, assisted by Rev. J.P. Ingle of Sherman, conducted the services. Mrs. Gattis is survived by 3 sons, George, Forrest, and Clarence Gattis, all of Sherman; 3 daughters, Mrs. Lena Magers of Sherman; Mrs. Minnie Clouse of Norman, Oklahoma; and Mrs. Hattie Wheeler of Shawnee, Oklahoma. Several from Whitewright attended the funeral service, among them being Mrs. T .J. Giles, Mrs. Fred Cook, and Mrs. Earl Hill. The Whitewright Sun Thursday, May 3, 1934 pg. 5 Thomas Wilson Gattis, 66, died suddenly at his home in Sherman last Thursday. Funeral services were held in Sherman Friday afternoon, conducted by Rev. H.L. White, pastor of the Forest Avenue Baptist Church of that city, who was assisted by Rev. J.P. Ingle, pastor of the Nazarene Church. Interment was in West Hill Cemetery, Sherman. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Elviro Gattis; 3 sons, G.J. Gattis, Forrest Gattis and Clarence Gattis, all of Sherman. 3 daughters, Mrs. Lena Majors of Sherman; Mrs. Minnie Clous of Norman, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Hattie Wheeler of Wellington. Other survivors include 25 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren. Mr. Gattis was a resident of Whitewright before moving to Sherman, and during his residence here he served as chief of the fire department prior to the motorization of the department. He was an active member of the Odd Fellows Lodge while here and served the lodge as Noble Grand. Since moving to Sherman some 15 years ago he had been engaged in the insurance business. Mamie B.
