  The Herald Democrat August 6-7, 2013 Denison - James Paul "Sonny" Odom, 79, passed away Sunday, August 4, 2013 in Denison. Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 7, at Bratcher Funeral Home Chapel, Denison. Burial followed at West Hill Cemetery, Sherman, with Jody Shires, sr., officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Jay Odom, Royce Odom, Jamie Odom, Tony Odom, Keith Sims, and John Huffenburger. Honorary pallbearer was Horace Groff. Sonny was born Friday, June 15, 1934, in Denison, the son of James Walter Odom and Rose Shero Odom. He attended Denison High School then worked many years in sales for Madden's Department Store, followed with traveling sales for Manhattan Shirt Company. Sonny returned to his home town in 1980 as the new owner, operator of Preston's Shoes on Main St. until 2000 when he retired. Some of Sonny's hobbies included tennis with friends, coin collecting, and enjoyed friendship with the coffee group at Nick's Restaurant. He was a longtime supporter of the Denison Yellow Jackets. He always looked forward to family get-togethers over a meal and homemade ice cream. He woul WOW everyone by riding a bicycle backwards, that talent has now been passed to other family members. Sonny is survived by his wife, Wanda Nelson Odom; children, Paula Cloud, Rodney Odom, Stanley Odom, Tina Burnham and husband, Doug; step-daughter, Christina Rucker and husband, Darrell; grandchildren, J. Odom and wife, Jennifer; Shelley Odom; Royce Odom; Russel Odom; Danielle Mitcheletti; Jamie Odom; Tony Odom; Jacob Burnham; Laith Burnham; step-grandchildren, Gavin Rucker; Olivia Rucker; great-grandchildren, Wyatt Odom, Payton and Jarred Mitcheletti. Remembrance of Sonny may be done by donation to Home Hospice of Grayson County, 505 W. Center, Sherman, Texas 75090.
