Petty, engineer for the Diamond Milling Company, and a well known citizen of 504 South Willow Street, died at 3:30 o'clock this afternoon after a short illness. Funeral service has not been arranged. The Sherman Daily Democrat Monday, May 19, 1919 pg. 5 WELL KNOWN CITIZEN OF SHERMAN DIED SATURDAY AFTERNOON As stated in the Democrat Saturday afternoon, J.L. Petty, 60 years of age, engineer at the Diamond Mill plant for a number of years, died at his home here Saturday afternoon following a short illness. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ella Petty, and 5 children. The children are Mrs. J.L.Williams, Mrs. C.B. White, Miss Maude Petty, and Frank Petty of Sherman; and Leslie Petty, now with the American forces in France. Funeral services were held at the family home, No. 504 South Willow street, this afternoon, conducted by Rev. D.O. Hause of the Baptist church, and interment was iN West Hill Cemetery. The following were pallbearers: Blaine Brown, Jack Rylant, Charles Inman, Joe Dennis, John Howdeshell, and Sam McAfee. The funeral was largely attended and the floral offerings were large and beautiful, among them being a wreath of unusual beauty sent by the co-workers of Frank Petty from the H. & T.C.-Katy freight office.
