West Hill Cemetery Sherman, Texas Charles R. Huffman 18 August 1929 - 20 October 2008 Joan G. Huffman 9 January 1925 - Sherman - Funeral services for Charles R. Huffman were held Thursday, October 23 in the Fairview Baptist Church. Dr. Patrick Mead and Rev. Bill Whitehead officiated with services under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home. Burial was at West Hill Cemetery with Dusty Abernethy, Monty Settle, Jonah Peters, Jacob Peters, David Rhudy, Brett Miller, and Morris Royal serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Ben and Nate Abernethy, and Ken Perkins. Mr. Huffman unexpectedly passed away Monday, October 20 at his home in Sherman at the age of 79. Charles Robert Huffman was born on August 18, 1929 in Churchville, Virginia to Elmer and Ina (Miller) Huffman. On April 16, 1954 Charles and Joan Gipson were married in Longview, Texas. Moving to Sherman in 1969, Charles began employment at Texas Instruments as an Engineer Technician. Retiring from TI in 1991, Mr. Huffman had more time to devote to his ongoing Christian ministry. He faithfully served the residents and their families at Texoma Healthcare and was active in the Grayson County Jail Ministry, Habitat for Humanity, Disaster Relief, and was a member of RSVP. He was a longtime member of Fairview Baptist Church and drove for many of the local car dealerships when vehicles needed to be transferred from dealer to dealer. Continually active throughout his retirement, Charlie also enjoyed fishing, antique cars, and woodworking. Those who knew him will remember him as a true servant, who cherished his family and loved the Lord with all his heart. Mr. Huffman is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joan of Sherman; three daughters, Susan Huffman Abernethy and husband Dusty of Plano; Melody Huffman Peters of Sherman; and Cindy Huffman Settle and husband Monty of Sherman; six grandchildren, Nate and Ben Abernethy of Plano; Jonah, Jacob, and Jessica Peters of Sherman; and Sarah Beth Settle of Sherman; two brothers, Dale Huffman and wife JoAnn Huffman of Auburn, Alabama and Joseph Huffman and wife Anne of Covington, Louisiana; one sister, Eleanor Bartlett and husband James of Fredonia, New York; and three sisters-in-law, Rena Huffman of Syracuse, New York; Chapyne Goforth of Dallas, Texas; and Ann Parrish and husband Harold of Henderson, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Ruth Hubbell and Virginia Gromer, and one brother, Lewis Huffman.
