West Hill Cemetery Sherman, Texas Wm. F. Patty 11 March 1917 Sherman Daily Democrat Monday, March 12, 1917 pg. 1 Prominent Pioneer Business Man Passes to His Reward William F. Patty, one of Sherman's prominent citizens and leading business men, died at his home, No. 610 S. Travis street, Sunday morning about 10:30 o'clock, after a few days' illness with heart trouble. Funeral services were held at the residence Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock, conducted by Dr. F.F. Brown of the First Baptist Church, after which interment was in West Hill Cemetery. Mr. Patty is survived by his wife, Mrs. Alice Patty. The news of Mr. Patty's death was a great shock to the people of Sherman, few of them realizing that he was so seriously ill. He had lived in this city since 1876 and by his upright walk and cordial treatment of his fellow men had gained a high place in the esteem of all and the news of his death was received with deep regret throughout the city. Mr. Patty was a Mississippian by birth and joined the Southern army in his native state at the outbreak of the Civil War, serving 4 years with distinction. His entered the service as a mere youth, serving under Gen. Lee. Coming to Sherman 41 years ago, he engaged in business and has been very successful in all of his undertakings. At the time of his death he was vice president of the Patty-Joiner-Eubank company, one of the largest wholesale grocery concerns in the southwest. In all of his business dealings he was strictly honorable, and one of his co-partners, in speaking of him, said: "In all of his business dealings he was the soul of honor, and in all transactions he always took the kindest, gentlest way with those with whom he transacted business." He had been a member of the Baptist church for more than 50 years and was also a member of the Masonic fraternity. He was progressive and was a leader in all of the things that went to make Sherman a better city in which to live, and never failed to do his full part. At the funeral the active pallbearers were selected from the employes of the Patty-Joiner-Eubank Company, and were J.V.Jones, W.C. Eubank, Lee Shivel, Osco McQuatters, Brooks H. Joiner, and J.H. Hughes, A.G. Freeman and J.R. Sanders. The honorary pallbearers were W.A. Harvey, W.C. Eubank, Sr., R.A. Chapman, Sr., T.U. Cole, C.B. Dorchester, F.C. Dillard, H.O. Head, W.C. Connor, of Dallas; N.B. Birge, J.B. Stinson, Joe F. Etter, F.R. Slaughter of Van Alstyne; Tom Randolph of St. Louis; Geo. Hardwicke, O.D. McReynolds, and H.O. Harrington. Mr. Patty was a brother to Glenn Patty of this city, and has three other brothers and one sister as follows: Henry Patty, an attorney of Atlanta, Georgia; R.P. Patty, a business man of Big Springs; A.G. Patty, a business man of El Paso; and Mrs. Ida Piner of Big Springs
Sherman Daily Register Wednesday April 21, 1880 The Death of a Most Estimable Lady Mrs. Sallie Patty, wife of W.F. Patty, died at the family residence on South Travis street this morning after a long illness. The many friends of Mrs. Patty, who have known her from her girlhood up, will receive this sad intelligence with pain, and the bereaved husband has the heart felt sympathy of the entire community in this sad blow. Mrs. Patty was a lady of most estimable temperment and her death will be a great loss to her host of friends. The funeral service will take place tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 o'clock and the services will be conducted by Rev. J.S. Moore, of the First Presbyterian church. Burial All that was mortal of Mrs. Sallie Patty were carried to the city cemetery this afternoon and laid away followed by a large number of sorrowing friends who are left to mourn the loss of a good and true Christian woman who hade the world better for having lived her short life in it. Another mound in the city cmetery tonight that was not there last night, marks the resting place of one whose memory will ever live fresh and bright.
