West Hill Cemetery Sherman, Texas
Sherman Daily Democrat November 13, 1886 Death Wm. N. McCann passed away from a mortal into an immortal existence at the American House yesterday, of a slow fever, superinduced by a relapse of the dengue. The deceased has been a citizen of Sherman for ten years, and during that time has made a most acceptable citizen, and although the alloted three score years and ten, which he lived, he has made a loving husband, an indulgent father and a warm and steadfast friend. He passed away from the world of death and woe strong in the faith of a believer in the powers and grace of the Savior and his last words were, "I am home at last." 'Tis sweet for the many relatives to know that when the pilgrims weary feet had reached the banks of the dark river that kept apart this temporal life from one eternal, that his simple confiding trust in the Savior found its just reward, and that the Angel of the other world beckoned to God's ferryman, Faith, to transport into joys eternal the weary wanderer to a home where there would be no more death. The burial services were conducted at the late residence at 3:30 p.m. by Rev. Dr. Rogers of the First Baptist Church and the remains were laid away in the City Cemetery.
