Denison, Texas (sp.) - Grayson County officers have another puzzling death on their hands with the finding of the body of a man tentatively identified as James D. Wallace, 43, of Sherman, on a lonely road north of Loy Lake Park Wednesday. A .22 bolt-action rifle was found in the floor of the back seat of the car, while the body was found six feet from the car lying on rocky ground, according to Sheriff Woody Blanton and Justice Homer Gaddy. A toxicologist was called from Dallas to make paraffin and other tests in an effort to determine whether it is suicide or murder. "It if were murder, robbery wasn't the motive as his billfold was found under him apparently intact with several bills inside," said Gaddy. Theorizing that it might be suicide, Gaddy said the man "would have had to fire one shot into his mouth that lodged in his cheek and was not a fatal wound. Realizing it wasn't fatal, he would have had to work the bolt action and fire a second shot." Gaddy said the toxicologist report will indicate the blood types on the ground and that of the victim, and can determine from any nitrate on the victim's hands whether he himself fired the fatal shot. "Until that report is back, there will be no vertict here," said Gaddy. Meanwhile, Gaddy said he had received the report from the toxicologist on the death of the Garland man, Ralph L. Nichols, 33, whose body was found July 22 in Lake Texoma with half his head shot off. "All I found out was that there were no nitrates present and no alcohol in his blood,"he said. "I won't delay too much longer on signing the death certificate, and unless I get more information, I will have to list the cause of death as undetermined." Blanton said he was attempting to locate a large magnet to use in dragging an area of the lake where he might recover the missing gun. Dallas Morning News Grayson Death Termed Suicide SHERMAN, Texas (Sp.) - Funeral services for James Desmond Wallace, 43, salesman for the International Correspondence School of Scranton, Pennsylvania, were held at 10 a.m. Friday in Waldo Funeral Chapel. Burial was in West Hill Cemetery.Mr. Wallace was found dead at Loy Lake Park. Justice of the Peace Homer Gaddy of Denison ruled death by self-inflicted wound. Mr. Wallace was born in Lubbock. He served in the Air Force during World War II, was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the AMVETS. He married the former Miss Jimmie Keeton in Waco, November 3, 1950.
