Funeral services
for Boyd B. Smallwood, Jr., age 65, of Sherman, were held Thursday
afternoon, January 13, 2011 at Waldo Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor
Todd Wartham officiated and burial followed at West Hill Cemetery in
Sherman.
Boyd passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at the Dallas VA Hosptial.
He was born in Sherman, on February 16, 1945, son of Boyd B.
and Ruby Joyce Richardson Smallwood. He was raised by his parents J.D.
and Joyce Elliott. Boyd joined the United States Marine Corps and served
in Vietnam. He was a lifelong avid Sherman Bearcat football fan and he
coached youth baseball for 15 years. Boyd was employed with his lifelong
friends at Melton Plumbing for over 35 years.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Smallwood of Sherman; daughter,
Terry Chartier and husband, Jimmy, of Scurry, Texas; sons, Mike Smallwood and
wife, Melanie, of Sherman, TX; Billy Lide and wife, Ashley, of Allen; son,
Brawn Lide and wife, Jaclyn, of Wells Branch, Texas; 7 grandchildren, Randi
Chartier, Mikah Smallwood, Luke Smallwood, Madeline Morris, Will Morris,
Isabelle Morris and Livia Lide; one sister, Linda Walker and husband, Joe,
of Sherman; two nieces, Courtney Packer and husband, Daniel, and Lauren
Walker; and one great-niece, Presley Packer. Boyd was also survived by a
host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.D. and Joyce Elliott and
Boyd B. Smallwood.
Pallbearers were Joe Walker, David Lowry, Mike Smallwood, Billy
Lide, Brawn Lide and Jimmy Chartier.
Honorary pallbearers were Bill Smith, Larry Dunn, John Melton,
Russell Melton, Larry Melton and James Melton.
