I 3rd Mar 1st Marine Division (REIN) Vietnam Purple Heart & Gold Star is honored on Panel 26E, Row 20 of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Sherman Democrat September 25, 1967 pg. 10 SERVICES PLANNED FOR WAR CASUALTY Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in the Music St. Church of Christ for Pfc. Jerry L. Thomas, 23, who was killed in action September 6 in Vietnam. Hubert Brown, minister of the church conducted the service. Burial was in West Hill Cemetery, directed by Grayson Funeral Home. Thomas was born May 10, 1944 in Sherman, son of Howard and Dorothy Thomas. He was a 1963 graduate of Fred Douglas High School and joined the Marine Corps the day after graduation. He had been in Vietnam for the last 5 months. On May 2, 1966 he married Miss Rebecca Gordon in Lakeland, Florida. Survivors are his wife; a son, Kenneth Thomas; his father, who now lives in Paris; a brother, Howard Thomas of Long Beach, California; a sister, Dorothy Jean Thomas of San Antonio; his grandmother, Mrs. Ada Wilson of Sherman; a great-grandmother and several aunts, uncles, nephews and nieces.
