 West Hill Cemetery Sherman, Texas Sherman Democrat July 16, 1945 Rifle Wounds Prove Fatal to Van Alstyne Girl Van Alstyne--Funeral services for Billie Joe Grisham, 14-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Grisham, who died Saturday afternoon of gunshot wounds, were held Sunday at 5 p.m. at the Fox-Fanning Funeral Home. The Rev. W.H. Vail, Methodist pastor, conducted. Interment was in the West Hill cemetery at Sherman. Alone with her two small half-sisters at her home at the time of the tragedy, the girl mortally wounded, ran out of the house and collapsed in the yard. The screams of her two sisters attracted the attention of a neighbor who was plowing in a field nearby. A .22 rifle with discharged cartridge was found in the house. Given first aid at the Fox-Fanning Funeral Home, she died enroute to a Sherman hospital. Born June 11, 1931 at Colbert, Oklahoma, she moved to Van Alstyne with her father and step-mother two years ago. Besides her parents, she is survived by three half-sisters, Mrs. Joyce Murrell of Butler, Arkansas, Mary Evelyn and Cora Bell Grisham at home; one half-brother, Harvey Lynn Grisham, also at home; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. N. C. Seal and Mr. and Mrs. A. N. Grisham of Colbert. Pallbearers were Dill Barrett, Cliff Cook, J. L. Grammar, L. H. Hines, B. A. Hones and H. C. Hines.
