The Denison Press Tuesday, September 7, 1937 pg.1 Henry Carter, Bookstore Man, Dies Here Monday Henry Carter, 61, following an illness of five days, died at noon Monday at his home, 1227 West Walker street, at which point he had resided for the past thirty-eight years. Heart trouble was given as the cause of his deatsh. Funeral services will be from the Short-Murray chapel at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday with interment at West Hill cemetery, Sherman. Services will be conducted by Rev. D.E. Hawk. Odd Fellows will have charge at the grave. Mr. Carter was born at Green Forest, Ark., July 17, 1874, his parents being Mr. and Mrs. John D. Carter. He was married Oct. 10, 1900 at Sherman to Miss Lillie D. Ferguson. Mr. Carter had operated a book store in this city for several years. He came to Denison from Sherman, at which point he was connected with the Denison mattress factory for some twenty-five years, retiring in 1931 and engaging in the book store business. He was a member of the Woodmen of the World and of the Odd Fellows, filling offices in each lodge. Funeral services will be conducted under auspices of the Methodist chruch of which he was a member. Surviving are Harrod Carter, Dallas and Mrs. Lawrence Baker, Brownsville, and Mrs. Walter Johnson, Denison. Brothers are John and James Carter of Texarkana. A sister, Mrs. Carl Orr, lives at Texarkana. Four grandchildren also survive.
