Smith 1868 - 1952 Sherman Daily Democrat Tuesday, March 4, 1919 pg. 5 SHERMAN TRAVELING MAN DIES IN DENISON AS HE WAS RETURNING FROM SAN ANTONIO James H. Smith, traveling salesman for the Strange Jewelry Company and a well known citizen of Sherman, died in Denison Monday evening at 7 o'clock en route home from San Antonio, where he had been in the interest of his health. Mr. Smith was 57 years of age. Funeral services were held from the parlors of the John C. Dannel Undertaking Company of this city at 3 o'clock this afternoon, followed by interment in West Hill Cemetery. The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Julia Smith of this city; and a daughter, Mrs. W.A. Stalcup of Rochell, Louisiana. The family made their home at No. 516 South Crockett street, and had lived in Sherman for several years. Mr. Smith was highly esteemed by all who knew him, and the family will have the sympathy of all in their bereavement. Rev. L.S. White, pastor of the Houston Street Church of Christ, will conduct the service. Mr. Smith had been in Denison for about 3 weeks at the time death occurred, having stopped there en route to Sherman, after becoming ill. Death occurred at the Denison flats where he was staying.
