BELDEN Member of Sherman Commission To Be Buried Sunday Special to The News Sherman, Texas, April 9 - Ora J. Belden, 55 years old, Sherman business man and member of the City Commission, died at the family home, 504 North Wood Street, Friday morning, following a short illness with pneumonia. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Margaret Belden, to whom he was married in 1902. Both Mr. and Mrs. Belden had been married twice. The surviving children are: Roy F. McFarland, De Vane G. McFarland; Milton Belden; Harold Belden; O.C. Belden; Miss Marguerite Belden; Miss Mildred Belden; Miss Dorothy Belden; and Miss Gladys Belden. Mr. Belden was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Belden, who came to Sherman from Indiana in 1884. Early in life Ora J. Belden became associated with the late Dr. J.C. Carpenter, who for a number of years was pastor of the First Baptist Church in Sherman and who later established an insurance business. Starting as office boy, he grew with the firm, and at Dr. Carpenter's death more than 20 years ago, bought the business. Sixteen years ago Mr. Belden was elected a member of the old City Council, before the city was operated under the commission form of government. He served on many important committees and was chairman of the finance committee. In 1919 he was elected a member of the City Council. In June 1921, he became a member of the City Commission, succeeding Sam Gladney, who resigned and moved to Ft. Worth. Funeral services will be held at the family home, 504 North Wood street, Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clcok, conducted by Rev. Everett B. King, pastor of the Central Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in West Hill Cemetery.
