Lucinda Vestal Harrison 1845 - 1924 MRS. HARRISON, GRAYSON COUNTY RESIDENT 54 YEARS, DEAD Sherman, April 14 - Mrs. Lucinda Vestal Harrison, a resident of Texas since 1848, and for 54 years a resident of Grayson County, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. V.W. Abrams, 1114 N. Cleveland avenue, shortly after 7 o'clock Sunday morning. Death resulted from heart trouble from which Mrs. Harrison had been a sufferer for several months. Mrs. Harrison was born in Duquoin county, Illinois, August 13, 1845. When 3 years of age she came with her parents to Texas. Her father, William Balch, settled near what is now Alvarado, Texas, and gave the land on which that town is founded. He is known as the founder of the town. She moved to Grayson county in 1868 and since that time has lived in and near Sherman. Mrs. Harrison was married 2 years before coming to Texas [sic] to Joseph S. Vestal, who died in 1885. She was later married to Mr. Harrison, who died the year following. She is survived by 4 children: Mrs. T.R. Carlton, Mrs. V.W. Abrams, and J.B. Vestal of Sherman; and I.L. Vestal of Irving. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Abrams, conducted by G.C. Brewer, pastor of the Walnut Street Church of Christ of which Mrs. Harrison had been a member since its founding. Interment was in West Hill Cemetery.
